Titanium was used in the present work as the test metal for the first ultrasonic corrosion anodization (UCA) study, because of its important photonics and biomedical applications. The electrochemical cell design was implemented and tested under various experimental conditions combinations (e.g. electrolyte concentration, duration, temperature, ultra-sound presence or absence, oxygen presence, etc) in order to investigate the effect of those parameters in the cracks propagation in Ti-foils. It was found that an increase of cracks takes place when oxygen is provided in the electrolyte solution and when ultrasound is applied. The results presented in the current study could be exploitable towards design of materials having dendritic morphologies, applicable in a wide range of processes from photovoltaics to biocompatible materials.

Ground penetrating radar was used to assess the decay state of the mosaics at the south upper gallery of Hagia Sophia, Istanbul. These mosaics were plastered during the Ottoman period of the monument, but during recent conservation interventions part of the plaster layer has been removed. It has been revealed that cohesion problems may be encountered with the preserved mosaic at the perpendicular junction of two arches. In another area, GPR was employed to reveal the presence of underlying mosaics being below the plaster layer. There have been observed void spaces below this layer, indicating possible cohesion problems that need to be taken into consideration in case of future removal of the plaster. In addition, the Empress Zoe mosaic was scanned, verifying good overall cohesion and homogeneity of the mosaic and the substrate structure but also that there exist restored areas with new base mortar and tesserae, confirming historic data.

The design and functionality of extremely flexible,foldable,and rollable microsupercapacitors(MSCs)with in-plane interdigital electrodes that consist of single-walled carbon nanotube(SWCNT)networks on an ultrathin polyimide substrate are demonstrated through experiments and finite element *** all-solid-state MSCs can be reversibly bent,folded,and rolled purely elastically without degradation of their electrical *** simulation results confirm that the deformation in bent,folded,and rolled MSCs is purely *** high power density(1125W cm^(–3))and small time constant(1 ms)of the present MSCs are comparable to those of aluminum electrolytic *** MSCs operate at scan rates of up to 1000 V s^(–1),are characterized by a volumetric capacitance of 18 F cm^(–3) and an energy density of 1.6 mWh cm^(–3),and exhibit superior electrochemical stability with 96% capacity retention even after 100,000 charge/discharge *** developed MSCs demonstrate high potential for integration in flexible and wearable electronic systems.

BACKGROUND Anastomotic leak constitutes a major problem in abdominal *** insufficiency,topical or systemic factors contribute to disrupted healing of the performed bowel anastomosis and result in anastomosis leakage,with detrimental effects on patient postoperative *** the investigation of several factors and the invention of protective materials,the ideal agent to prevent anastomotic leaks is yet to be *** To study the effect of platelet rich plasma(PRP)on the healing of bowel *** A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed,EMBASE,and Scopus databases to identify studies investigating the effect of PRP application on bowel *** Eighteen studies were eligible with a total population of 712 animals including rats(14 studies),rabbits(2 studies)and pigs(2 studies).No postoperative complications were reported following PRP *** out of 18 studies reported a statistically significant higher anastomosis bursting pressure in PRP groups compared to control either in healthy animals or animal models with underlying condition or intervention,such as intraperitoneal chemotherapy or *** results were reported by ten studies in terms of tissue hydroxyproline *** study reported significant increase in collagen deposition in PRP *** application resulted in significantly decreased inflammatory cell infiltration in the presence of peritonitis or intraperitoneal chemotherapy(6 studies).CONCLUSION The application of PRP is associated with improved bowel anastomosis outcomes,especially in animal models having an underlying condition affecting the normal healing *** application seems to augment the normal healing process under these ***,further studies are needed to investigate the potential role of PRP on bowel anastomosis healing,especially in clinical settings.

Fuzzy Analytical Solution to Vertical Infiltration

In this article, we examine the solution of the fuzzy linear vertical infiltration equation, which represents the water movement in porous media in that part which is called the vadose zone. This zone is very important for semi-arid areas, due to complex phenomena related to the moisture content in it. These phenomena concern the interchange of moisture content between the vadose zone and the atmosphere, groundwater and vegetation, transfer of moisture and vapor and retention of moisture. The equation describing the problem is a partial differential parabolic equation of second order. The calculation of water flow in the unsaturated zone requires the knowledge of the initial and boundary conditions as well as the various soil parameters. But these parameters are subject to different kinds of uncertainty due to human and machine imprecision. For that reason, fuzzy set theory was used here for facing imprecision or vagueness. As the problem concerns fuzzy differential equations, the generalized Hukuhara (gH) derivative was used for total derivatives, as well as the extension of this theory for partial derivatives. The results are the fuzzy moisture content, the fuzzy cumulative infiltration and the fuzzy infiltration rate versus time. These results allow researchers and engineers involved in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering to take into account the uncertainties involved in infiltration.

Flood Routing Simulation and Management in Hydrologic Basins with Artificial Reservoirs—The Case of Arda River

Major flood events occurred in the Arda River region in the last decades with great economic, social and environmental effects. A specific software package has been developed for the simulation of the flood runoff and routing process of the transboundary Arda River basin. The software package is taking into account the existence of the three cascade Bulgarian reservoirs aiming to flood protection and power optimization. Inflow estimations for duration of five days ahead and initial water levels at the three reservoirs are imported at the beginning of the simulation. The management tool includes all the alternative operation modes of hydropower plants, water released from spillways, and river and reservoir flow characteristics in order to optimize the total system (power generation and flooding costs) during the flood event. The developed software is also an efficient tool for the establishment of a flood warning system.

Sildenafil versus continuous positive airway pressure for erectile dysfunction in men with obstructive sleep apnea： a comparat-ive study of their efficacy and safety and the patient＇s satisfaction with treatment

Aim： To assess the efficacy of sildenafil and continuous positive airway pressure （CPAP） in the treatment of concurrent erectile dysfunction （ED） with obstructive sleep apnea （OSA）, and to gauge the level of treatment satisfaction in patients and their partners. Methods： Forty men were treated for 12 weeks with sildenafil 100 mg （20 men） or CPAP during nighttime sleep （20 men）. Treatment efficacy was assessed by the rate of successful intercourse attempts, and satisfaction with treatment was assessed by patients＇ and partners＇ answers to question 1 of the Erectile Dysfunction Inventory of Treatment Satisfaction. Results： Under sildenafil, 128 of 249 （51.4%） intercourse attempts were successful; under CPAP, 51 of 193 （26.9%） attempts were successful （^cp 〈 0.001）. Erectile function was improved in both groups. After sildenafil and CPAP treatment, the mean International Index for Erectile Function domain scores were 14.3 and 10.8, respectively （^bp = 0.025）, compared to 7.8 and 7 at baseline, respectively. CPAP and sildenafil were well tolerated. Sporadic episodes of nasal dryness under CPAP and transient headache and flushing under sildenafil were not significant. Fifty percent of patients treated with sildenafil and 25% with CPAP were satisfied with the treatment, and their partners were equally satisfied. The satisfaction scores for both patients and partners under sildenafil were superior to those under CPAP （^cP 〈 0.002）. Conclusion： Both sildenafil 100 mg and CPAP, used separately, had positive therapeutic impact but sildenafil was superior. Patients and their partners were more satisfied with sildenafil for the treatment of ED. However, because of the high proportion of dissatisfied men and partners, new therapeutic agents or a combination of the two methods must be studied further.

The Effect of N-Fertilization on Rosmarinus Officinalis L. （An Upright Variety） Yield in Central Greece

The effect of three different N-fertilization levels （NI： 625, N2：385 and N3：770 kg hal; where in case of N1 was used the 3-6-10＋3MGO＋30% OM and in cases of N2-N3 the 26-0-0 fertilizers） on fresh and dry weight of the perennial Rosmarinus officinalis （upright cultivar） was investigated during the 2nd year after establishment at the Experimental Farm of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly in Greece （TEI; Larissa plain） in 2015. It is well documented that the crop reaches its potential yield on the third year of cultivation and continues producing biomass for as long as eight years. Complete weather data （air temperature, radiation, air humidity, precipitation） were recorded hourly in an automatic meteorological station, which was installed to the experimental farm of TEI. Upon harvest （November 3rd 2015）, the crop reached a maximum fresh yield of 11.67 tons per hectare and dry yield of 4.3, respectively. The average fresh weight was 8.2, 8.4 and 8.9 t hal and the dry weight were 2.6, 3.1 and 3.2 t ha-1 for the N1, N2 and N3 levels, respectively. Furthermore the higher moisture content was observed in the case of N1 level （68%）. Therefore, the above data show that rosemary cultivation could be a promising alternative crop, especially in case of the consideration that average selling price of dry rosemary in Greece is 3.5 ∈ kg^-1 and the average gross income exceeds the amount of 10,000 ∈ ha^-1.
