AIM: To evaluate the epidemiology and outcomes of culture-positive spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) and spontaneous bacteremia (SB) in decompensated ***: We prospectively collected clinical, laboratory characteristics, type of administered antibiotic, susceptibility and resistance of bacteria to antibiotics in one hundred thirty cases (68.5% males) with positive ascitic fluid and/or blood cultures during the period from January 1, 2012 to May 30, 2014. All patients with SBP had polymorphonuclear cell count in ascitic fluid > 250/mm3. In patients with SB a thorough study did not reveal any other cause of bacteremia. The patients were followed-up for a 30-d period following diagnosis of the infection. The final outcome of the patients was recorded in the end of follow-up and comparison among 3 groups of patients according to the pattern of drug resistance was ***: Gram-positive-cocci (GPC) were found in half of the cases. The most prevalent organisms in a descending order were Escherichia coli (33), Enterococcus spp (30), Streptococcus spp (25), Klebsiella pneumonia (16), S. aureus (8), Pseudomanas aeruginosa (5), other Gram-negative-bacteria (GNB) (11) and anaerobes (2). Overall, 20.8% of isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR) and 10% extensively drug-resistant (XDR). Health-care-associated (HCA) and/or nosocomial infections were present in 100% of MDR/XDR and in 65.5% of non-DR cases. Meropenem was the empirically prescribed antibiotic in HCA/nosocomial infections showing a drug-resistance rate of 30.7% while third generation cephalosporins of 43.8%. Meropenem was ineffective on both XDR bacteria and Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium). All but one XDR were susceptible to colistin while all GPC (including E. faecium) and the 86% of GNB to tigecycline. A possibility of using bottom sediments from dam reservoir as a material for earthen embankments was considered in the paper. It was stated that sediments cannot be used for road or hydrotechnical embankments without improving their geotechnical parameters. Thanks to low values of the permeability coefficient, they can be used for sealing elements in embankments or for low levees. In order to verify usability of this material for mentioned levees, stability and filtration calculations were carried out using Finite Element Method （FEM） analysis. It was stated the levee built from bottom sediments is stable even at the height of 8.0 m, despite the boundary conditions on the upstream side.

Heavy metal glasses doubly doped with Yb3＋ and Ln3＋ ions （Ln=Er or Tm） were studied. Glass host matrices were limited to lead borate glass and lead germanate glass. Efficient resonant （yb3＋-Er3＋） and non-resonant （yb3＋-Tm3＋） energy transfer was ob- served for the studied systems. Near-infrared luminescence spectra at 1.53 μm （Er3＋） and 1.9 gm （Tm3＋） were detected under excita- tion of Yb3＋ by 975 nm diode laser line. They corresponded to 4I13/2→4115/2 （Er3＋） and 3F4→3H6 （Tm3＋） transitions of rare earth ions, respectively. The unusual large spectral linewidth nearly close to 110 nm for 4I13/2→4I15/2 transition of Er3＋ ions in lead borate glass was obtained, whereas long-lived near-infrared luminescence at 1.53 gm was detected in lead germanate glass. Quite different situa- tion was observed for yb3＋-Tm3＋ doubly doped glasses. In contrast to lead borate glass, near-infrared （3F4→3H6） luminescence spectra were registered for Tm3＋ ions in lead germanate glasses, only. These phenomena strongly depended on stretching vibrations of glass host, which was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy.

The variability of the output power of distributed renewable energy sources(DRESs)that originate from the fastchanging climatic conditions can negatively affect the grid ***,grid operators have incorporated ramp-rate limitations(RRLs)for the injected DRES power in the grid *** the DRES penetration levels increase,the mitigation of high-power ramps is no longer considered as a system support function but rather an ancillary service(AS).Energy storage systems(ESSs)coordinated by RR control algorithms are often applied to mitigate these power ***,no unified definition of active power ramps,which is essential to treat the RRL as AS,currently *** paper assesses the various definitions for ramp-rate RR and proposes RRL method control for a central battery ESS(BESS)in distribution systems(DSs).The ultimate objective is to restrain high-power ramps at the distribution transformer level so that RRL can be traded as AS to the upstream transmission system(TS).The proposed control is based on the direct control of theΔP/Δt,which means that the control parameters are directly correlated with the RR requirements included in the grid *** addition,a novel method for restoring the state of charge(So C)within a specific range following a high ramp-up/down event is ***,a parametric method for estimating the sizing of central BESSs(BESS sizing for short)is *** BESS sizing is determined by considering the RR requirements,the DRES units,and the load mix of the examined *** BESS sizing is directly related to the constant RR achieved using the proposed ***,the proposed methodologies are validated through simulations in MATLAB/Simulink and laboratory tests in a commercially available BESS.

AIM To investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided release of the first annular pulley and compare results with the conventional open operative *** In this prospective randomized, single-center, clinical study, 32 patients with trigger finger or trigger thumb, grade Ⅱ-Ⅳ according to Green classification system, were recruited. Two groups were formed; Group A(16 patients) was treated with an ultrasound-guided percutaneous release of the affected A1 pulley under local anesthesia. Group B(16 patients) underwent an open surgical release of the A1 pul ey, through a 10-15 mm incision. Patients were assessed pre- and postoperatively(follow-up:2,4 and 12 wk) by physicians blinded to the procedures. Treatment of triggering(primary variable of interest) was expressed as the "success rate" per digit. The time for taking postoperative pain killers, range of motion recovery, QuickD ASH test scores(Greek version), return to normal activities(including work), complications and cosmetic results were *** The success rate in group A was 93.75%(15/16) and in group B 100%(16/16). Mean times in group A patients were 3.5 d for taking pain killers, 4.1 d for returning to normal activities, and 7.2 and 3.9 d for complete extension and flexion recovery, respectively. Mean Quick DASH scores in group A were 45.5 preoperatively and, 7.5, 0.5 and 0 after 2, 4, and 12 wk postoperatively. Mean times in group B patients were 2.9 d for taking pain killers, 17.8 d for returning to normal activities, and 5.6 and 3 d for complete extension and flexion recovery. The term 'lithodynamics' is suggested to denote processes of sediment transport due to exogenic factors and gravity, and also a branch of geosciences studying these processes. Integration of investigations, both of earth surface and of ocean, within one common branch of science is recommended. Basic notions and tasks of lithodynamics as applied to sediment transport processes are described.

In this paper we present a new method and file format which allows to create, store and manipulate multiresolution raster images. “Classic” raster images are built up by rasters (pixels) where in the same image each raster (pixel) has the same size. Multiresolution raster image (mri) are unlike the “classic” raster images. An mri file is a regular text file, conformed xml 1.0 standard and allows: 1) to store raster based images with different resolution in the same file and in the same time (i.e., allows to contain rasters with different size in the same image);2) to export easily any part of the image as a separate raster image and to import an image as a part of a raster;3) to define geographical reference for a raster image and use this image as a raster based GIS model;4) to perform computations (i.e., image manipulation) on the content of the file. It is an important characteristic of the mri format that mathematical operations could be performed always in the same resolution as the current resolution of the given part of the image. To confirm this statement we present how to perform a convolution on an mri file.
