In this paper an analytical study is carried out to examine the effectiveness of absorbing boundaries using dashpot. Validity of the absorbing boundary conditions suggested by Lysmer-Kuhle- meyer and White et al. is investigated by adopting the solution of Miller and Pursey. The Miller and Pursey’s problem is then numerically simulated using the finite element method. The absorption ratios are calculated by comparing the displacements at the absorbing boundary to those at the free field without the absorbing boundary. The numerical verification is carried out through comparison of displacement at the boundary.

The paper is focused on available server management in Internet connected network environments. The local backup servers are hooked up by LAN and replace broken main server immediately and several different types of backup servers are also considered. The remote backup servers are hooked up by VPN (Virtual Private Network) with high-speed optical network. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a way to use a public network infrastructure and hooks up long-distance servers within a single network infrastructure. The remote backup servers also replace broken main severs immediately under the different conditions with local backups. When the system performs a mandatory routine maintenance of main and local backup servers, auxiliary servers from other location are being used for backups during idle periods. Analytically tractable results are obtained by using several mathematical techniques and the results are demonstrated in the framework of optimized networked server allocation problems. The operational workflow give the guidelines for the actual implementations.

Assessing the vulnerability for some economic sectors of Binh Dinh province plays a very important role. The study has applied the vulnerability method according to Iyengar and Sudarshan to assess vulnerability for 03 different sectors: 1) Agriculture, forestry and fisheries;2) Industry and construction and 3) Service. Calculation results of vulnerability classification for different sector groups according to the E, S, AC, and Vi indicators are used to develop a hierarchy of vulnerability classification for different sector groups. The calculation results indicate that only Phu My district has a high vulnerability index for agriculture, forestry and fisheries with the value of Vi?= 0.6;For the service sector, only Quy Nhon City has a high vulnerability index with the value of Vi?= 0.63. The vulnerability index calculated for sector groups for the remaining regions is low to moderate. The result of the vulnerability classification maps due to sea level rise will help planners and managers make plans, plans and solutions to mitigate risks caused by natural disasters.

The mechanism of “Bing-Bang-Channeling-Cut” was proposed to reduce the volcanic energy (“Bing”) from the Galapagos Hot Spot (GHS) for the mitigation of Ecuadorian earthquake impact (“Bang”). The lag time between the volcanic eruptions in the GHS and Ecuadorian earthquake was probably caused by the undersea seamounts of the Carnegie Ridge (CAR) (“Channeling”). Experimental results from the water reservoir showed that the lag time decreased when increasing the number of drilled holes (“Cut”) in the bottom of reservoir. The present study showed that there was an additional vector initiating the Ecuadorian earthquake from the volcanic eruption in the GHS through the CAR. It was concluded that the harmful effects of Ecuadorian earthquakes could be mitigated by releasing the volcanic energy through the enlarged exit diameters in Holes of Site 1239 (A, B, C) with the presently productive upwelling chlorophyll system at the northeastern CAR.

Protein expression patterns in the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-degrading Rhodococcussp. strain ACS were examined following growth on two substrates capable of inducing the enantioselective biotransformation of PCBs via different degradation pathways. Eleven inducible proteins were identified by SDS-PAGE and characterized by LC-MS/MS. Four of the peptides, a spore coat protein, an extracellular serine protease, a spoVP, and a molecular chaperonin from Bacillus subtilis, were identified as being unique to biphenyl-induced cells, whereas anextracellular serine protease from B. subtilis was identified as being unique to carvone-induced cells. None of the peptides identified had sequences that corresponded to known dioxygenases or other PCB-degrading enzymes of this Gram- positive bacterium, suggesting that the identified induced proteins may be involved in either PCB degradation or adaptive responses that protect cells from toxicity.

Spatial Modeling of the Highest Daily Maximum Temperature in Korea via Max-stable Processes

This paper examines the annual highest daily maximum temperature （DMT） in Korea by using data from 56 weather stations and employing spatial extreme modeling. Our approach is based on max-stable processes （MSP） with Schlather＇s characterization. We divide the country into four regions for a better model fit and identify the best model for each region. We show that regional MSP modeling is more suitable than MSP modeling for the entire region and the pointwise generalized extreme value distribution approach. The advantage of spatial extreme modeling is that more precise and robust return levels and some indices of the highest temperatures can be obtained for observation stations and for locations with no observed data, and so help to determine the effects and assessment of vulnerability as well as to downscale extreme events.

The structure and morphology of the hepatic vessels and their relationship between tumors and liver segments are major interests to surgeons for liver surgical planning. In case of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), the most important step in determining donor suitability is an accurate assessment of the liver volume available for transplantation. In addition, the mutual principles of the procedures include dissection in the appropriate anatomic plane without portal occlusion, minimization of blood loss, and avoidance of injury to the remaining liver. It is essential first step to identify and evaluate the major hepatic vascular structure for liver surgical planning. In this paper, the threshold was determined to segment the liver region automatically based on the distribution ratio of intensity value;and the hepatic vessels were extracted with mathematical morphology transformation, which called hit operation, that is slightly modified version of hit-and-miss operation on contrast enhanced CT image sequence. We identified the vein using the preserved voxel connectivity between two consecutive transverse image sequences, followed by resection into right lobe including right hepatic vein, middle hepatic vein branches andleft lobe including left hepatic vein. An automated hepatic vessel segmentation scheme is recommended for liver surgical planning such as tumor resection and transplantation. These vessel extraction method combined with liver region segmentation technique could be applicable to extract tree-like organ structures such as carotid, renal, coronary artery, and airway path from various medical imaging modalities.

Predictions of El Nino,La Nina and Record Low Chicago Temperature by Sunspot Number

The El Nino Index, defined as 4 intensities (very strong, strong, moderate, weak) in Oceanic Niño Index (ONI), was positively correlated with the average sunspot number at each intensity. The La Niña Index, defined as 3 intensities (strong, moderate, weak) in ONI, was negatively correlated with the average sunspot number from 1954 to 2017. It appears that very strong El Niño events occur frequently during the maximal sunspot number while strong La Niña events more often occur during the minimal sunspot number. Since greenhouse-gas is continuously increased, it is therefore proposed that the maximal sunspot number is a major parameter for prediction of El Niño while the minimal sunspot number applies in the same way for La Niña. El Nino/La Nina events can be classified as four typical cases depending upon the submarine volcanic activities at seamounts in Antarctica and South America. The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) of the South and Central Americas are warmer than SST of East Australian Current (EAC), due to the strong volcanic eruptions in the Seamounts and the Ridges in South and Central Americas. This results in the Central Pacific Current (CPC) flowing from east to west due to the second law of thermodynamics for thermal flow from hot source to cold sink. In contrast the opposite direction is made if SST in EAC is warmer than SST in the Central/South American Seamounts and Ridges, due to the strong volcanic eruptions in the Antarctic Seamounts and Ridges. Chicago was selected as a case study for the relationship between extreme cold weather conditions and minimal sunspot number. Previous attempts at predicting weather patterns in Chicago have largely failed. The years of the record low temperatures in Chicago were significantly correlated with the years of the minimal sunspot number from 1873 to 2019. It is forecast that there may occur a weak La Niña in 2019 and another record low temperature in Chicago in January of 2020 due
