Motile cells of the green alga, Ulva fasciata respond to the quantity and quality of irradiance simultaneously. The specific responses of motile cell types (gametes and spores) by irradiance influence migration behavior in coastal water environment. Gametes maximally aggregated at the highest white light intensity (250 μmol·m-2·s-1), while spores maximally aggregated in the dark (0 μmol m-2·s-1) of this study. Gametes maximally aggregated in green irradiance over blue, red and dark while spore maximally aggregated in the dark. The results of quantity are spectral responses are likely to be underline the ecological success and physiological strategies in varied irradiance environments includes: 1) gametes respond to specific quantities and spectral irradiance;2) spores respond negatively to quantity and quality of irradiance to enhance the probability of finding substratum;and 3) populations of adults that come from these motile cells behaviors. The specific quantities and spectral qualities of irradiance responses show specific ecological migration that can be attributed to photosynthesis under limiting irradiance in coastal waters for the motile cells of U. fasciata.

Prediction of the indication criteria for endoscopic resection of early gastric cancer

AIM: To find risk factors of lymph node metastasis(LNM) in early gastric cancer(EGC) and to find proper endoscopic therapy indication in ***: We retrospectively reviewed the 2270 patients who underwent curative operation for EGC from January 2001 to December 2008. EGC was defined as malignant lesions that do not invade beyond the submucosal layer of the stomach wall irrespective of presence of lymph node ***: Among 2270 enrolled patients, LNM was observed in 217(9%) patients. LNM in intramucosal(M) cancer and submucosal(SM) cancer was detectedin 3 8( 2. 8 %, 3 8 / 1 3 4 0) patients and 1 7 9(19%, 179/930) patients, respectively. In univariate analysis, the risk factors for LNM in EGC were size of tumor, Lauren classification, ulcer, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, and depth of invasion. However, in multivariate analysis, size of tumor, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, and depth of invasion were risk factors for LNM in EGC. Size of tumor, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, and depth of invasion were risk factors for LNM in cases of intramucosal cancer and submucosal cancer. In particular, there was no lymph node metastasis in cases of well differentiated early gastric cancer below 1 cm in size without ulcer regardless of lymphovascular ***: Tumor size, perilymphatic-vascular invasion, and depth of invasion were risk factors for LNM in EGC. There was no LNM in EGC below 1 cmregardless risk factors.

New-onset diabetes after adult liver transplantation in the Korean Organ Transplantation Registry (KOTRY) study

Avian encephalomyelitis virus (AEV) strain L2Z was investigated for its apoptotic activity in specific - pathogen - free (SPF) chick embryo brain tissue. DNA fragmentation analysis and electron microscopy observation demonstrated that AEV could induce apoptosis in chick embryo brain tissues characterized by chromatin condensation, plasma membrane blebbing, cell shrinkage, and nucleosomal DNA fragmentation 4 days post -infection (PI). AEV structural protein genes VP1, VP2 and VP3 were transfected into Cos-7 and chick embryo brain (CEB) cells, respectively. The results showed that only VP3 protein was an apoptotic inducer, as demonstrated by DNA fragmentation analysis and TUNEL assay at 24 and 48 hr post-transfection. Furthermore, expression of VP3 protein resulted in the activation of caspase-3 -like proteases in both cells, which could be inhibited by a caspase - 3 - like protease specific inhibitor Ac - DEVD-cho peptide, suggesting that AEV VP3 protein induces apoptosis through a caspase -3 -like protease pathway. In addition, VP3 protein localized to mitochondria in the Cos -7 and CEB cells at 24 hr post-transfection observed by a confocal microscopy, indicating that mitochondria may play an important role in VP3 -induced apoptosis. Taken together, our results show that AEV could induce apoptosis in chick embryo brain tissue, structural protein VP3 could serve as an apoptotic inducer resulting in apoptosis in cell culture through a caspase -3 -like protease pathway, which may be related to its localization to mitochondria.

Background:New-onset diabetes after transplantation(NODAT)is a serious complication following liver transplantation(LT).The present study aimed to investigate the incidence of and risk factors for NODAT using the Korean Organ Transplantation Registry(KOTRY)***:Patients with history of pediatric transplantation(age≤18 years),re-transplantation,multi-organ transplantation,or pre-existing diabetes mellitus were excluded.A total of 1,919 non-diabetic adult patients who underwent a primary LT between May 2014 and December 2017 were *** factors were identified using Cox regression ***:NODAT occurred in 19.7%(n=377)of adult liver transplant *** analysis showed steroid use,increased age,and high body mass index(BMI)in recipients,and implantation of a left-side liver graft was closely associated with NODAT in adult *** living donor liver transplant(LDLT)patients(n=1,473),open donor hepatectomy in the living donors,steroid use,small for size liver graft(graft to recipient weight ratio≤0.8),increased age,and high BMI in the recipient were predictive factors for *** use of antimetabolite and basiliximab induction reduced the incidence of NODAT in adult LT and in adult ***:Basiliximab induction,early steroid withdrawal,and antimetabolite therapy may prevent NODAT after adult *** BMI or advanced age in liver recipients,open donor hepatectomy in living donors,and small size liver graft can predict the occurrence of NODAT after adult LT or LDLT.

目的评价16S核糖体RNA(rRNA)基因测序在肝脓疡中细菌鉴定中的应用价值。方法2012年1月—2013年12月间共20例肝脓疡行经皮置管引流的患者,分别行脓液培养,血培养和16S rRNA基因测序。利用454 GS Junior System对脓液基因组DNA行PCR和16S rRNA基因测序。脓液培养,血液培养和16S rRNA基因测序结果进行分别评价。结果脓液和血液培养阳性的患者分别是9例(45%)和4例(20%)。16S rRNA基因测序细菌鉴定率为90%,明显高于传统的培养方法。结论 16S rRNA基因测序方法较传统的培养方法能更准确和有效对肝脓疡进行细菌鉴定。

Developing and understanding electron-rich electrides offers a promising opportunity for a variety of electronic and catalytic *** a geometrical identification strategy,here we identify a new class of electride material,yttrium/scandium chlorides Y(Sc)_(x)Cl_(y)(yx<2).Anionic electrons are found in the metal octahedral framework *** diverse electronic dimensionality of these electrides is quantified explicitly by quasi-two-dimensional(2D)electrides for[YCl]^(+)∙e−and[ScCl]^(+∙)e−and one-dimensional(1D)electrides for[Y_(2)Cl_(3)]^(+)∙e−,[Sc_(7)Cl_(10)]^(+)∙e−,and[Sc5Cl8]2+∙2e−with divalent metal elements(Sc^(2+):3d^(1) and Y^(2+):4d^(1)).The localized anionic electrons were confined within the inner-layer spaces,rather than inter-layer spaces that are observed in A_(2)B-type 2D electrides,***_(2)***,when hydrogen atoms are introduced into the host structures to form YClH and Y2Cl3H,the generated phases transform to conventional ionic compounds but exhibited a surprising reduction of work function,arising from the increased Fermi level energy,contrary to the conventional electrides reported so far.Y_(2C)l_(3) was experimentally confirmed to be a semiconductor with a band gap of 1.14 *** results may help to promote the rational design and discovery of new electride materials for further technological applications.

Adenomyoma is a term generally applied to nodular lesions showing proliferation of both epithelial and smooth muscle components. Despite its benign nature,ampullary adenomyoma is usually presented as biliary obstruction. Most cases are misdiagnosed as carcinoma or adenoma by preoperative endoscopic or radiologic procedure. Therefore,it is frequently treated with extensive surgery. To our knowledge,this is the first reported case in English literature of adenomyoma located in the peripancreatic orifice resulting in intermittent pancreatic duct obstruction and recurrent pancreatitis diagnosed by the endoscopic piecemeal resection.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of stents in treating patients with anastomotic site obstructions due to cancer recurrence following colorectal ***:The medical records of patients who underwent endoscopic self-expanding metal stents(SEMS)insertion for colorectal obstructions between February2004 and January 2014 were retrospectively *** the study period,a total of 218 patients underwent endoscopic stenting for colorectal *** identified and examined the patients who underwent endoscopic stenting for obstructions caused by cancer recurrence at the anastomotic site following colorectal surgeries for primary colorectal ***:Five consecutive patients[mean age,56.4years(range:39-82 years);4 women,1 man]underwent endoscopic stenting for obstructions caused by cancer recurrence at the anastomotic site following colorectal surgeries for primary colorectal *** and clinical success was achieved in all 5 patients,without any early *** follow-up,3patients did not need further intervention,prior to their death,after the first stent insertion;thus,the overall success rate was 3/5(60%).Perforations occurred in 2patients who required a second SEMS insertion due to re-obstruction;none of the patients experienced stent ***:SEMS placement is a promising treatment option for patients who develop obstructions of their colonic anastomosis sites due to cancer recurrence.

Effects of K. Lysolecithin on Blood Levels of Monoamines in Mice

In this research, Lysolecithin-a substance made with 100% natural ingredients - was given to ICR mice as medication to measure its periodic effect on the noradrenalin (NA), dopamine (DA), and serotonin (5-HT) levels of the brain. Both ICR and SAM mice were separated into two groups - control group and Lysolecithin (K. Lysolecithin: hydrolytic lysolecithin) medicated group, and given 1-week preparation period. The K. Lysolecithin group was given 500mg/kg of K. Lysolecithin at 0.2mL per dosage for 4 weeks, and the control group was given the same amount of dosage of water during the same period. NA, DA and 5-HT concentrations were measured from the blood before medication and 8 weeks / 12 weeks / 16 weeks after the first medication. For the SAM mice, 8 weeks after they were medicated with K .Lysolecithin, Morris Water Maze Test was conducted for 7 consecutive days and then the concentrations were measured by drawing blood from the heart. The K. Lysolecithin medicated group showed a tendency to have a statistically significant higher concentrations of 5-HT and NA in the blood. Also, periodic examination showed that the monoamine levels were highest in the 12th week and declined thereafter.
