随着科学技术的日益普及,在市场上每个组织都需要定位自己的战略,促进销售并使公司绩效最大化。在激烈的市场竞争中,每家公司都定位自己的企业战略以赢得更多的客户,提高公司的业绩。包括加纳在内非洲国家的许多中小型和大型公司,为了提高公司绩效,都在与客户交流并接触更多的潜在客户,而在这一过程中,也面临着许多问题和困难。这是因为大多数公司的在传统方式或营销上都浪费了越来越多的资金,但其产生的效果却越来越低。社交媒体作为新型营销形式,为企业决策提供信息依据,从而会最终影响企业的绩效。该研究试图通过引入社会资本的概念来评估社交媒体对公司绩效和资本预算决策的影响,本文结合五个社交媒体平台:Facebook,Twitter,Instagram,YouTube和LinkedIn,作为衡量影响公司绩效的大数据工具。进一步讨论了如何将社交媒体之类的大数据工具用作营销工具,以及如何帮助客户经理对公司的产品和服务做出预算决策。审查并分析了有关五个社交媒体平台,财务绩效和资本预算的文献,以确定用于解决社交媒体上各种问题的方法。该研究调查了社交媒体的对加纳30家公司的预算决策和公司绩效的影响,包括90位专业人员和300位客户。本文采用了原始数据和二手数据,原始数据是通过结构化问卷调查和公司审计的年度财务报表而得的,并使用社会科学统计软件包（SPSS）进行数据分析。该研究使用资产回报率（ROA）和权益报酬率（ROE）来衡量社交媒体对财务绩效的影响,使用回归模型测试变量的直接和间接关系。该研究发现社交媒体与预算决策和财务绩效之间存在正相关关系。Facebook,LinkedIn,Instagram和Twitter（0.483,P＜0.000;0.375,P＜0.000;0.1278,P＜0.001;0.229,P＜0.000）对公司绩效（ROA）的影响要比其余社交媒体大。该研究还发现,Facebook与预算决策和公司绩效密切相关。本文也选取年龄和规模作为控制变量,但其影响并不显著,并且对公司绩效没有任何影响。根据研究结果,本文向企业所有者、管理者、市场营销主管提出了相关建议,以便在预算决策中将更多注意力放在社交媒体上,以帮助提高公司绩效。

Sand Storage, Extending the Shelf-Life of Fresh Sweetpotato Roots for Home Consumption and Market Sales

Uni-modal rainfall pattern has long dry spell wherein sweetpotato is scarce, expensive but cheap at harvest. The crop is mostly consumed, processed or sold. Extending shelf-life of roots is crucial for Malawi and Northern Ghana as the crop has high value. Trials were conducted in the countries at the community level. In the dry season, temperature is cool in Malawi while warm in Ghana, but thru harmattan, the night is cool with low relative humidity. In Malawi, orange-fleshed sweetpotato Zondeni var., white and yellow types were assessed in three types of storage, Afghan ventilated pit store, storage in dry sand of pit-steps, and of a granary In Ghana, local moistened heap and sandbox were compared. In Malawi, weight losses were calculated relative to the quantity stored at start, it was not cumulative. At 1.5 months no significant difference was among treatments. By 3.5 months the pit-steps method emerged to be superior and continued to 6.5 months. Losses in granary were due to shriveling, in the pit-stepsdue to termites and rats, and in ventilated pit due to termites, rats and Java black rot. Sprouting was high in pit-steps, but it was simply removed and roots returned to storage. At 6.5 months, the beta-carotene of Zondeni roots was traceable. Farmers gained high price when selling them as roots were scarce. Women favored the pit-steps because it was manageable. In Ghana, the sandbox was superior to local moistened heap. Methods designed were suitable for home consumption, but will require modification for commercialization.

Geotechnical and Geochemical Assessment of Natural Sands in Ahanta West Area, Southwestern Ghana

Geotechnical and geochemical assessment of natural sands being used as fine aggregates for construction purposes in Ahanta West and its Environs was carried out, as well as addressing the environmental problems associated with the exploitation of these sand through the sand winning activities. The results from geotechnical and geochemical tests were bench marked with British, American and Ottawa Standards for testing materials. Representative samples were taken from five different sand winning sites namely, Pompuni, Agona Banso, Fretsi, Tumentu stream and Fretsi river. The geotechnical tests carried out were specific gravity, grain size analysis, moisture content, silt content, permeability test using the constant head permeameter method. The photometer (Hydro Test HT 1000) was used to determine silica, sulphate and chloride concentrations in the sand samples. The oxides for the geochemical analysis were determined using the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method. The results from the study areas showed that except for Fretsi, the specific gravity, grain size analysis, moisture content, silt content and permeability tests were within the acceptable range for natural sands. Sand samples from Pumponi and Agona Banso had the required Cu and Cc values of being well graded. Sulphate and chloride concentrations were within standards for all the samples;however, silica was low for all the samples. Fe2O3, Al2O3, MnO and Na2O did not meet the Ottawa sand standard. Natural sand is not recommended to be used for construction purposes however, these sands may be treated or blended if it is to be used for construction purposes. Seroprevalence and Risk Factors of Syphilis Infection among Antiretroviral Therapy Naive HIV Patients at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Ghana

Diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections is very important considering the spread of HIV and the extensive use of highly active antiretroviral therapy worldwide. This will assist in planning of treatment schedule in controlling these infections. The study therefore aimed at determining the prevalence of syphilis in HIV positive antiretroviral therapy naive patients in Cape Coast and the associated risk factors involved in infection. A cross-sectional study was carried out using initial HIV rapid and confirmation tests, and then Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test with the Ultra Rapid Test Kits for syphilis. Demographic data, risky sexual behaviours capable of co-transmission of both HIV and Syphilis, were also collected through the use of questionnaires. In all, 150 HIV positive antiretroviral naive subjects were studied and 15 (10%) were positive for VDRL test, with females (6.00%) and males (4.00%), who were mainly within the age group of 20 - 39 years. A significant number of males (p = 0.019) and females (p = 0.015) participants were not smoking with a fewer number of the females (p = 0.002) having multiple sexual partners. Also a smaller number of those who were infected with the bacteria (p = 0.004) did not support the control of sexually transmitted infection (p = 0.022). The result showed that co-infection of Syphilis in HIV positive antiretroviral therapy naive patients persists in the Cape Coast Metropolis, which is an indication of prominence of STIs that require further study on a larger scale to ascertain the extent of co-infection and to formulate policy for treatment to help minimize the rate of infection.
