Metal sulfides have been widely enticed as battery-type electrodes in supercapacitor devices because of their maximal theoretical ***,their lower conductivity and ion transport kinetics can largely restrict their rate performance,hence the practical usage in fields of demanding high power ***,the design of new electrodes with higher energy and power densities remains a highly challenging *** the best of our knowledge,a novel hierarchical composite of Al-CoS_(2) on nitrogendoped graphene(Ng)is prepared based on a zeolite imidazole framework using a simple and scalable hydrothermal *** this hybrid,ultrathin Al-CoS_(2) nanosheet arrays are vertically orientated on the Ng framework to limit self-aggregation,hence increasing the electrical property and cycle stability of *** is investigated that the Al/Co feeding ratio plays a crucial role in controlling the obtained hierarchical structure of Al-Co-S sheets and their electrode ***,Al^(3+) can influence remarkably the morphology and electrochemical property of the resultant graphene *** effective synergism is noticed between the redox Al-CoS_(2) and Ng resulting in fast electron transfer and chargingdischarging ***,when the as-developed composite is utilized as a positive electrode at an applied current density of 1 A/g,a specific capacitance of 1915.8 F/g is attained with ultra-long cycle stability(96%,10,000 cycles)and an excellent retention rate(~89%).As a consequence,when a solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor(ASC)device is made by combining an Al-CoS_(2) @Ng hybrid with a negative electrode made of polyaniline(PANI)derived carbon nanorods(PCNRs),it demonstrates remarkable specific capacitance(188 F/g),energy density(66.9 Wh/kg),and cyclic stability of 92%after 10,000 *** may open the pathway for the application of the next-generation supercapacitors in the future.

BACKgROUND The recent federal ruling to against Affordable Care Act(ACA), specifically the mandate requiring people to buy insurance, has once again brought the healthcare reform debate to the spotlight. The ACA increased the number of insured Americans through the development of subsidized healthcare plans and health insurance exchanges. Insurance-based differences in the rate of upper extremity elective orthopaedic surgery have been described before and after healthcare reform in Massachusetts, where a similar mandate was put into place years before the ACA was passed. However, no comprehensive study has evaluated insurance-based differences of knee elective surgery before and after *** To investigate how an individual mandate to purchase health insurance affects rates of knee *** A retrospective review was performed within an orthopaedic surgery department at a tertiary-care, academic medical center in Massachusetts. The rate of elective knee surgery performed before and after the healthcare reform(2005-2006 and 2007-2010, respectively) was calculated. Background： Evaluating a change in the screening rate for hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is critical for understanding screening implementation, and whether targeted population groups are receiving proper screening. This study examined recent nationwide changes in HCC screening use among hepatitis B virus （HBV）-infected populations after the introduction of the Korean National Cancer Screening Program and predictors of screening adherence. Methods： We analyzed 165 and 276 participants 〉40 years of age who were hepatitis B surface antigen-positive fiom 2001 （14,936 participants） to 2010-2011 （9159 participants） Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, respectively. Demographic data, socioeconomic factors, and HCC screening use were collected by means of self-reported questionnaires. Results： The rate of HCC screening within the previous 2 years increased significantly from 17.5% in 2001 to 40.3% in 2010- 20I 1 （P〈 0.0001 ）. The rate of HCC screening use increased from 2001 to 2010-2011 in all study populations. Subjects who had a higher income staius and were aware of their infection were more likely to have undergone recent HCC screening. Conclusions： This study showed a substantial increase in HCC screening in high-risk HBV-infected subjects from 2001 to 2010-2011. However, the HCC screening participation rate remained suboptimal despite the introduction of the nationwide screening program. Efforts should be made to identiry high-risk individuals and increase attendance at HCC screening events among high-risk groups.

CONSPECTUS:The development of a highly effective,low-cost method for protection against direct transmission through infectious media associated with respiratory diseases has been considered to be a major challenge in the management of the pandemic ***,filtration in respirators and masks depends on the mesh size,raising safety concerns about direct contact with the virus-laden layers of masks and respirators during use and ***,conventional medical face masks and respirators are recommended for single use only because long-term use and reuse of masks increase the risk of contact transmission of *** a result,mask reusability has gained much attention in addressing the global problem of respirator and mask shortages during the COVID-19 ***,coinfection by influenza,SARSCoV-2,and bacteria has been an ongoing issue in the current COVID-19 *** our response to the increasing demand for more convenient forms of disease control,our group has investigated antimicrobial technologies for respiratory devices against pandemic/epidemic diseases and developed two universal antimicrobial coating technologies:(1)nonwashable,reusable salt-coated fabrics and(2)washable,photopolymerizable polymer-coated fabrics which efficiently inactivate infectious viruses by contact with the *** is an opportune time to assess research efforts toward antimicrobial face mask technology for its expected impact on society and the economy.

The inadvertent dissolution of gangue minerals is frequently detrimental to the flotation of valuable *** investigated the effect of conditioning time on the separation of brucite and serpentine by *** analyzing the Mg2+concentration,relative element content,and pulp viscosity,we studied the effect of mineral dissolution on brucite *** results of artificially mixed mineral flotation tests(with-10μm serpentine)showed that by extending the conditioning time from 60 to 360 s,a large amount of Mg2+on the mineral surface gradually dissolved into the pulp,resulting in a decreased brucite recovery(from 83.83%to 76.79%)and an increased recovery of serpentine from 52.12%to 64.03%.To analyze the agglomeration behavior of brucite and serpentine,we used scanning electron microscopy,which clearly showed the different adhesion behaviors of different conditioning ***,the total interaction energy,as determined based on the extended DLVO(Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek)theory,also supports the conclusion that the gravitational force between brucite and serpentine increases significantly with increased conditioning time.

We demonstrate a new type of multifocal and extended depth of focus(EDOF)intraocular lenses(IOLs)embeddingμm-thin geometric phase(gP)lens *** an emerging approach for lens phase design,the gP modulated IOLs outperform conventional diffractive IOLs in multifocality while completely avoiding the clinically undesirable demand for additional surface patterns to standard monofocal IOL *** number of foci and light splitting ratio of the gP IOLs are adjusted by changing the number of stacked gP layers and the thickness of each *** and trifocal gP IOLs are fabricated by radial alignment of anisotropic orientation in UV-curable liquid crystal *** characterizing the defocus image and modulation transfer function of the gP IOLs,it is expected that gP IOLs will alleviate the most common problems associated with multifocal and EDOF IOLs,blurred vision and photic phenomena caused by light scattering and posterior capsule opacification.

Ethanol extract from gynostemma pentaphyllum ameliorates dopaminergic neuronal cell death in transgenic mice expressing mutant A53T human alpha-synuclein

gynostemma(g.) pentaphyllum(Cucurbitaceae) contains various bioactive gypenosides. Ethanol extract from g. pentaphyllum(gP-EX) has been shown to have ameliorative effects on the death of dopaminergic neurons in animal models of Parkinson’s disease(PD) induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-and 6-hydroxydopamine. PD patients exhibit multiple symptoms, so PD-related research should combine neurotoxin models with genetic models. In the present study, we investigated the ameliorative effects of gP-EX, including gypenosides, on the cell death of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain of A53 T α-synuclein transgenic mouse models of PD(A53 T). Both gP-EX and gypenosides at 50 mg/kg per day were orally administered to the A53 T mice for 20 weeks.α-Synuclein-immunopositive cells and α-synuclein phosphorylation were increased in the midbrain of A53 T mice, which was reduced following treatment with gP-EX. Treatment with gP-EX modulated the reduced phosphorylation of tyrosine hydroxylase, extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK1/2), Bcl-2-associated death promoter(Bad) at Ser112, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK1/2) due to α-synuclein overexpression. In the A53 T group, gP-EX treatment prolonged the latency of the step-through passive avoidance test and shortened the transfer latency of the elevated plus maze test. gypenosides treatment exhibited the effects and efficacy similar to those of gP-EX. Taken together, gP-EX, including gypenosides, has ameliorative effects on dopaminergic neuronal cell death due to the overexpression of α-synuclein by modulating ERK1/2, Bad at Ser112, and JNK1/2 signaling in the midbrain of A53 T mouse model of PD. Further studies are needed to investigate gP-EX as a treatment for neurodegenerative synucleinopathies, including PD. This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Chungbuk National University(approval No. CBNUA-956-16-01) on September 21, 2016.
