Background:Ziwan and Taoren(ZT)is a classic medicine pair in the formula of Mai Dong Di Shao Decoction,has been used to treat primary Sjogren’s syndrome(pSS)for more than 20 *** its action mechanism is still *** study is aimed to reveal the potential mechanism of ZT treated pSS and discover its active compounds of ZT and therapeutic target for ***:Firstly,the potential pathways of ZT for pSS treatment were predicted through network pharmacology and GO and KEGG enrichment ***,the inter-structural relationships between active compounds of ZT and target proteins were visualized using molecular docking ***,efficacy and mechanism were conducted through in vivo experiments,such as water intake,spleen index,hematoxylin-eosin staining pathological changes,ELISA,Western Blot analysis,and immunofluorescence ***:Nine active compounds were extracted from network pharmacology,including quercitrin,luteolin,kaempferol,β-sitosterol,isorhamnetin,galangin,hederagenin,diosmetin and gibberellin *** disease targets were identified:RELA,TP53,AKT1,interleukin(IL)6,MAPK1,ESR1,IL10;with RELA being the most core *** and GO enrichment analysis indicated that ZT may act through the TLR/NF-κB/RELA inflammatory mechanism *** results of molecular docking showed that ZT’s active compounds bind well to the RELA(p65)*** vivo results demonstrated that a high dose of ZT significantly improved water intake and reduced lymphocytes infiltration in submandibular gland pathology in NOD *** expression content of AQP5 and vasoactive intestinal peptide in the submaxillary gland was significantly increased,while levels of inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-α,IL-6,and IL-1βalong with protein expressions including toll-like receptor4,p-p65 and p-IKKα/βin NF-κB pathway were ***:The ZT treatment exhibits a promising efficacy in mitigating dryness symptoms of pSS,potentially attr

Objective To report surgical experience in pseudoaneurysm (PA) repair of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) for renal hemodialysis. Methods Twenty patients undergoing PA repair of AVF for renal hemodialysis were treated in Central Hospital Conde S. Januario of Macao. Sixteen patients had PAs of AVF in upper extremities, 4 in lower extremities. All patients were treated with surgical therapy. Results All operations were finished without death. One patient suffered from acute thrombosis, recovered without any complication through instant thrombectomy. One patient with postoperative incision bleeding recovered after low molecular weight heparin was ceased. And one AVF could not be mature six weeks later, was recovered after ligation of branch vein. And one patient died due to recurrent cerebral infarction. Conclusion Surgical repair is the best choice for PA of AVF for renal hemodialysis.

A functioning riparian zone is very beneficial to the environment. However, most of the riparian zones have been disturbed by man-made implications these days. Public awareness about the issues of environmental conservation including riparian zones is needed by providing information on critical areas. Therefore, a novel framework is presented here to reveal how well a riparian zone adopts to changes. This paper highlights the field investigation of an altered riparian system along Maong River in Kuching, Sarawak. Investigation of the general riparian health is followed by the studies of its contributing attributes—vegetation cover, human activities and groundwater level, have been carried out. The methods are practicable in harnessing understanding and knowledge of riparian conditions. For a disturbed riparian zone, the findings indicate that 50% - 60% of the study areas are categorized as healthy or functioning riparian systems, at the same time, correlate the influences of the three afore-mentioned attributes.

Intra - body communication(IBC) is a new,emerging,short - range and human body based communication methodology. It is a technique to network various devices on human body,by utilizing the conducting properties of human tissues,suitable for currently fast developing Body area network(BAN)/Body sensor network(BSN).IBC is believed to have advantages in power consumption, electromagnetic radiation,interference from external electromagnetic noise,security,and restriction in spectrum *** this article,the authors develop two models,which are analytical and empirical approaches,for comparing the performance and accuracy of IBC on a human *** in vivo experiment of five volunteers,both models basically match with the experimental result with equivalent circuit model superior than electromagnetic model in term of maximum error.

Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) is the most comprehensive technique available to predict the long term average annual rate of erosion on a field slope. USLE was governed by five factors include soil erodibility factor (K), rainfall and runoff erodibility index (R), crop/vegetation and management factor (C), support practice factor (P) and slope length-gradient factor (LS). In the past, K, R and LS factors are extensively studied. But the impacts of factors C and P to outfall Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and % reduction of TSS are not fully studied yet. Therefore, this study employs Buffer Zone Calculator as a tool to determine the sediment removal efficiency for different C and P factors. The selected study areas are Santubong River, Kuching, Sarawak. Results show that the outfall TSS is increasing with the increase of C values. The most effective and efficient land use for reducing TSS among 17 land uses investigated is found to be forest with undergrowth, followed by mixed dipt. forest, forest with no undergrowth, cultivated grass, logging 30, logging 10^6, wet rice, new shifting agriculture, oil palm, rubber, cocoa, coffee, tea and lastly settlement/cleared land. Besides, results also indicate that the % reduction of TSS is increasing with the decrease of P factor. The most effective support practice to reduce the outfall TSS is found to be terracing, followed by contour-strip cropping, contouring and lastly not implementing any soil conservation practice.

A Simple Procedure for Extracting DNA from Coagulated Blood Samples for DNA Banking

Proanthocyanidins are compounds of oligomers mainly consisted of catechin, epicatechin, and their gallic acid esters. The targets we studied in the present study are restricted in dimers of catechins, referring to typeA and type-B proanthocyanidins. Type-A and-B are differentiated by the linkage 4β→8(B-type) and 2β→O→7(Atype) in the interflavanoid bonds. The combination of the above basic units and linkage types, a complex and huge number of proanthocyanidin dimers are found in nature resources. Due to the complexity of the structures, only limited proanthocyanidin dimers were reported been identified directly by exact molecular mass and main fragments with high resolution MS in pine bark and peel of Litchi fruits. Therefore, using MS to probe the structure of proanthocyanidins is still a goal of interested. Here we develop a strategy of energy resolution mass spectrometry(ERMS) to reveal the structure of proanthocyanidins mainly by fragments fluctuating according to energy application for collision. Based on the study of model compounds, we provide a protocol consisted of retention time of reversedphase chromatography, normalized collision energy, and kinetic diagram of fragments vs. collision energy for differentiating different isomers of proanthocyanidin in the sample. The mechanism of the fragmentation was also comprehended for further investigation for other oligomers.

Background: DNA banking is increasingly applied to collect genetic materials for biomedical studies. Traditionally, the source of DNA banking is from the anti-coagulated blood samples as it is easy to isolate cells from the samples for DNA extraction. However, substantial portion of clinical blood samples is coagulated. Because of the difficulty to release blood cells from the clots for DNA extraction, coagulated blood samples are not used for DNA banking. Methods: In this study, we developed a simple procedure for high-throughput DNA extraction from coagulated blood samples for DNA banking. Results: We showed that the extracted DNA is the same as the one extracted from anti-coagulated blood samples as reflected by the size distribution and genetic variants across all coding genes. Conclusions: We developed a simply procedure for high-throughput DNA extraction from coagulated blood cells. Validation results show that the DNA from coagulated blood cells is the same as the DNA from the anti-coagulated blood cells.
