Microbial extraction of nickel from chromite overburdens in the presence of surfactant

The effect of surfactant polyoxyethylenesorbitan monolaurate （Tween-20） on the nickel bioleaching from pre-treated chromite overburden （COB）, Sukinda with fungal strain Aspergillus niger, was examined in shake flasks. Along with the nickel recovery from COB by the fungal bioleaching, the effect of surfactant on the growth of the A. niger was also investigated. Results show that the addition of surfactant in low concentration was favorable for the recovery of nickel from pre-treated COB. Normally, the carbon source （sucrose） in the culture medium was utilized by the A. niger for its cellular metabolism and organic metabolites （bio acids） were produced, which were responsible for the bioleaching of minerals. However, the addition of surfactant （Tween-20） accelerated the rate of sucrose consumption by the fungi, and thus enhancing the extraction of nickel from pre-treated COB. During the study, around 39% nickel extraction was achieved in A. niger mediated bioleaching performed at 2% pulp density of pre-treated COB at 30 °C, in the presence of surfactant whereas only 24% nickel was extracted without surfactant.

Fractional calculus and special functions have contributed a lot to mathematical physics and its various branches. The great use of mathematical physics in distinguished astrophysical problems has attracted astronomers and physicists to pay more attention to available mathematical tools that can be widely used in solving several problems of astrophysics/physics. In view of the great importance and usefulness of kinetic equations in certain astrophysical problems, the authors derive a generalized fractional kinetic equation involving the Lorenzo-Hartley function, a generalized function for fractional calculus. The fractional kinetic equation discussed here can be used to investigate a wide class of known （and possibly also new） fractional kinetic equations, hitherto scattered in the literature. A compact and easily computable solution is established in terms of the Lorenzo-Hartley function. Special cases, involving the generalized Mittag-Leffler function and the R-function, are considered. The obtained results imply the known results more precisely.

AIM:To determine the incidence and factors responsible for anastomotic leaks and stricture following anterior resection(AR)and its subsequent ***:Retrospective analysis of data from 108 patients with rectal carcinoma who underwent AR or low anterior resection(LAR)to identify the various preoperative,operative,and post operative factors that might have influence on anastomotic leaks and ***:There were 68 males and 40 females with an average of 47 years(range 21-75 years).The median distance of the tumor from the anal verge was 8 cm(range 3-15 cm).Sixty(55.6%)patients underwent handsewn anastomosis and 48(44.4%)were *** median operating time was 3.5 h(range2.0-7.5 h).Sixteen(14.6%)patients had an anastomotic *** these,11 patients required reexploration and five were managed *** anastomotic leak rate was similar in patients with and without diverting stoma(8/60,13.4%with stoma and 8/48;16.7%without stoma).In 15(13.9%)patients,resection margins were positive for ***(17.6%)patients developed anastomotic strictures at a median duration of 8 mo(range 3-20 mo).Among these,15 patients were successfully managed with per-anal *** multivariate analysis,advance age(>60 years)was the only risk factor for anastomotic leak(P=0.004).On the other hand,anastomotic leak(P=0.00),mucin positive tumor(P =0.021),and lower rectal growth(P=0.011)were found as risk factors for the development of an anastomotic ***:Advance age is a risk factor for an anastomotic *** anastomotic leak,a mucin-secreting tumor,and lower rectal growth predispose patients to develop anastomotic strictures.

Objective:The laparoscopic approach is becoming the standard of care for many surgical ***,in the case of hydatid cysts,laparoscopic management is challenging due to the risk of spillage of hydatid fluid,which can cause an anaphylactic reaction and ***,we report our initial experience with laparoscopic partial pericystectomy of hydatid cysts using long ribbon gauze to decrease intra-operative ***:This was a retrospective study(between January 2010 and December 2021)in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology,Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science,a tertiary care referral center in northern ***,we have included 37 consecutive patients with hydatid cysts of the liver and *** was made by laboratory and imaging findings(abdominal sonography or contrast enhanced CT scans).All patients were managed with laparoscopic partial ***,a betadine-soaked long ribbon gauze,high-pressure suction canula,and an endo-bag were used in all *** collected data included patient demography,location,size,and number of cysts,WHO type,operative time,blood loss,postoperative complications,hospital stay and ***:In our series,the mean age was 38.4±13.6 years,15(40.5%)were men and 22(59.5%)were *** right lobe of the liver was the most commonly affected site(21,56.8%).The mean operative time was 80.0±32.0 min,and intraoperative blood loss was 23.6±11.5 *** leak was present in 6(16.2%)*** was no *** hospital stay was 5(3,9)days,and no recurrence was observed at a median follow-up of 36 ***:Laparoscopic partial pericystectomy using this technique is safe in the management of hydatid ***,proper packing and safe removal of soaked gauzes can minimize the incidence of postoperative complications and recurrence.

目的:本研究比较了在气管拔管前应用右美托咪啶和丙泊酚对拔管时气道和心血管反应的影响,同时研究了在气管插管前单次应用右美托咪啶是否可以使拔管期平稳。方法:60例全静脉麻醉下行甲状腺切除术的患者,ASA分级I-Ⅱ级,随机分为3组,气管插管前均给予右美托咪啶1μg/kg,3组患者在预计手术结束前5分钟分别给予右美托咪啶0.5μg/kg,丙泊酚0.5mg/kg和生理盐水(对照组)。分别记录麻醉前,给药(右美/丙泊酚/生理盐水)前,给药后3分钟及5分钟时,拔管前,拔管时,拔管后3,5,10,15分钟时患者的心率(HR),收缩压(SAP),舒张压(DAP),平均动脉压(MAP)和血氧饱和度(SpO2)。拔管质量评估采用5分制,术后镇静质量评估采用6分制。记录出现喉痉挛,支气管痉挛,血氧饱和度下降,呼吸抑制,过度镇静的患者,记录从停止全麻药物至全麻苏醒的时间。结果:3组患者的年龄,体重,性别,ASA分级,手术时间,血氧饱和度的比较无统计学差异。3组患者拔管时HR都显著增加,丙泊酚组增加幅度最小(74.55±7.76),其次为右美组(76 ± 7.59),对照组(89.45±6.07)。收缩压(SAP),舒张压(DAP),平均动脉压(MAP)在拔管时都显著增加,右美组增加幅度最低,MAP在右美组,丙泊酚组,生理盐水组分别为(99.05±10.52),(104.45±7.52),(114.65±7.45)。右美组拔管质量最高,拔管质量2分的患者,右美组为85%,丙泊酚组为70%,生理盐水组为45%。3组患者均未出现血氧饱和度下降。三组患者在拔管时及拔管后5分钟的Ramsay镇静评分均有显著的统计学差异。3组患者的全麻苏醒时间有统计学意义,右美组最长(29.2±3.09),丙泊酚组(27.75±2.43),生理盐水组(23.15±2.41)。结论:在气管拔管时,右美托咪啶可以提供除心率外的更稳定的血流动力学环境,丙泊酚对于稳定气管拔管时的心率更有优势。右美托咪啶可以提供更好的拔管质量,丙泊酚提供更快的苏醒时间。同时,本研究得出插管前单次给予右美托咪啶不足以维持拔管时循环稳定和气道的应激反应。

Reductive Acid Leaching of Low Grade Manganese Ores

Manganese recoveries from low-grade ores using organic acids as reducing agents were investigated in the present work. The acid leaching potential of both oxalic acid and citric acid were estimated. Manganese leaching amount were measured by using standard manganese curve and estimated by titration method. Effects of various acid concentrations on leaching efficiency were studied. The observed result suggested prominent manganese recovery of 66% by oxalic acid at 2 M concentration whereas citric acid had less effect on leaching showing leaching percentage upto 40% in 6 days. Acid leaching of manganese ore with both the acids gave a comparative data stating that oxalic acid leached better than citric acid.

The question whether chemotherapy induced autophagy is causative to the demise of the cells or is it a part of the survival mechanism activated during cellular distress is *** and we have previously demonstrated apoptosis inducing capacity of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) retinamide (4-HPR) in malignant glioma *** provide evidences of 4-HPR induced autophagy at a lower concentration (5 muM).Sub optimal dose of 4-HPR treatment of malignant gliomas cell lines increased G2/M arrest whereas cell accumulated in S-phase at a higher concentration.4-HPR-induced autophagy was associated with acidic vacuole (AVO) formation and recruitment of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3).At higher concentration of 10 mum of 4-HPR glioma cells undergoing apoptosis manifested autophagic features indicated by autophagosome formation, AVO development and LC3 localization.
