Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

To estimate human loss in an earthquake-prone area, it is necessary to analyze the role played by the spatiotemporal distribution of the area’s resident population. In order to evaluate earthquake impact, this article focuses on the spatiotemporal distribution of population and five scenario earthquakes that form the basis for loss estimation in the city of Sylhet, Bangladesh. Four temporal contexts(weekday, weekly holiday, the 30 days of Ramadan, and strike days) expand the more typical daytime and nighttime settings in which to examine hazard risk. The population distribution for every 2 hour interval in a day is developed for each type of day. A relationship between the occupancy classes and average space(persons per 100 m^2)is used to distribute people in each building regardless of building locations. A total daytime and nighttime population is obtained for each building and the estimated nighttime population is used to model the population for four temporal scenarios in a year based on different factors and weights. The resulting data are employed to estimate population loss for each of the temporal and earthquake scenarios. This study used building-specific human vulnerability curves developed by the Central American Probabilistic Risk Assessment(CAPRA) to obtain possible loss of life estimates. The results reveal that there is a high positive correlation between the spatiotemporal distribution of population and the potential number of casualties.

Bioaerosols consist of aerosols originated biologically such as metabolites, toxins, or fragments of microorganisms that are present ubiquitously in the environment. International interests in bioaerosols have increased rapidly to broaden the pool of knowledge on their identification,quantification, distribution, and health impacts（e.g., infectious and respiratory diseases,allergies, and cancer）. However, risk assessment of bioaerosols based on conventional culture methods has been hampered further by several factors such as：（1） the complexity of microorganisms or derivatives to be investigated;（2） the purpose, techniques, and locations of sampling; and（3） the lack of valid quantitative criteria（e.g., exposure standards and dose/effect relationships）. Although exposure to some microbes is considered to be beneficial for health,more research is needed to properly assess their potential health hazards including inter-individual susceptibility, interactions with non-biological agents, and many proven/unproven health effects（e.g., atopy and atopic diseases）.

A 4-year-old boy presented with insidious psychomotor regression at the age of 12 *** MRI revealed symmetric lesions in the bilateral basal ganglia (Fig.1a),whereas brain magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) revealed no abnormalities (***).Muscle biopsy revealed ragged red fibers,megaconia,and mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I *** investigation confirmed the ND3 mitochondrial mutation 10191T>*** was diagnosed with Leigh *** years later,he experienced *** revealed new focal diffusion-restricted lesions in multiple cortices (Fig.2a),and MRS revealed an inverted doublet lactate peak (Fig.2b).He was finally diagnosed with Leigh-MELAS overlap syndrome.

In this paper the effect of integral memory terms in the behavior of diffusion phenomena is studied. The energy functional associated with different models is analyzed and stability inequalities are established. Approximation methods for the computation of the solution of the integro-differential equations are constructed. Numerical results are included.

Vernacular buildings across the globe provide instructive examples of sustainable solutions to building problems. Yet, these solutions are assumed to be inapplicable to modern buildings. Despite some views to the contrary, there continues to be a tendency to consider innovative building technology as the hallmark of modern architecture because tradition is commonly viewed as the antonym of modernity. The problem is addressed by practical exercises and fieldwork studies in the application of vernacular traditions to current problems. This study investigates some aspects of mainstream modernist design solutions and concepts inherent in the vernacular of Asia, particularly that of the Chittagong Hill Tracts （CHT）. This work hinges on such ideas and practices as ecological design, modular and incremental design, standardization, and flexible and temporal concepts in the design of spaces. The blurred edges between the traditional and modern technical aspects of building design, as addressed by both vernacular builders and modern architects, are explored.

Experiments were conducted to characterize forced hydraulic jumps in stilling basins for enforced cases due to tail water level or dam site arrangement and construction. The case with a single tall sill was simulated in a horizontal flume downstream of a sluice gate. Results of experiments are compared with the classical hydraulic jump, and significant effect of tall sill on dissipation of energy in shorter distance was confirmed. Furthermore, the generated jumps were classified based on the ratio of sill height to basin length, and a simple design criterion was proposed to estimate the basin length for a desired jump and particular inflow.

CD8^(+) cytotoxic T cells(CTLs)protect against pathogens and cancer.1,2,3,4 Over the past few years,CTL responses have been extensively studied.1,2,3,4 In response to an infection,the CTL response develops in three phases:expansion,contraction,and memory.2,3,In the expansion phase,pathogen-derived antigens(Ags)trigger activation and proliferation of Ag-specific CTLs,leading to the generation of effector CTLs(eCTLs)with cytotoxic functions.2,5,Later,in the contraction phase,90–95%of eCTLs die as a result of activation-induced cell apoptosis.

This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of circular alumina （Al2O3） nanobeams in the presence of surface and thermal effects resting on a Pasternak foun- dation. The system of motion equations is derived using Hamilton＇s principle under the assumptions of the classical Timoshenko beam theory. The effects of the transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are also considered within the framework of the mentioned theory. The separation of variables approach is employed to discretize the governing equa- tions which are then solved by an analytical method to obtain the natural frequencies of the alumina nanobeams. The results show that the surface effects lead to an increase in the natural frequency of nanobeams as compared with the classical Timoshenko beam model. In addition, for nanobeams with large diameters, the surface effects may increase the natural frequencies by increasing the thermal effects. Moreover, with regard to the Pasternak elastic foundation, the natural frequencies are increased slightly. The results of the present model are compared with the literature, showing that the present model can capture correctly the surface effects in thermal vibration of nanobeams.
