BACKGROUND Osteoporosis(OP)has become a major public health problem worldwide.Most OP treatments are based on the inhibition of bone resorption,and it is necessary to identify additional treatments aimed at enhancing osteogenesis.In the bone marrow(BM)niche,bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)are exposed to a hypoxic environment.Recently,a few studies have demonstrated that hypoxiainducible factor 2alpha(HIF-2α)is involved in BMSC osteogenic differentiation,but the molecular mechanism involved has not been determined.AIM To investigate the effect of HIF-2αon the osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of BMSCs and the hematopoietic function of hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs)in the BM niche on the progression of OP.METHODS Mice with BMSC-specific HIF-2αknockout(Prx1-Cre;Hif-2αfl/fl mice)were used for in vivo experiments.Bone quantification was performed on mice of two genotypes with three interventions:Bilateral ovariectomy,semilethal irradiation,and dexamethasone treatment.Moreover,the hematopoietic function of HSCs in the BM niche was compared between the two mouse genotypes.In vitro,the HIF-2αagonist roxadustat and the HIF-2αinhibitor PT2399 were used to investigate the function of HIF-2αin BMSC osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation.Finally,we investigated the effect of HIF-2αon BMSCs via treatment with the mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)agonist MHY1485 and the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin.RESULTS The quantitative index determined by microcomputed tomography indicated that the femoral bone density of Prx1-Cre;Hif-2αfl/fl mice was lower than that of Hif-2αfl/fl mice under the three intervention conditions.In vitro,Hif-2αfl/fl mouse BMSCs were cultured and treated with the HIF-2αagonist roxadustat,and after 7 d of BMSC adipogenic differentiation,the oil red O staining intensity and mRNA expression levels of adipogenesis-related genes in BMSCs treated with roxadustat were decreased;in addition,after 14 d of osteogenic differentiation,BMSCs treated with roxadustat exhibited increased expression of osteogenesis

High-performance active terahertz modulators as the indispensable core components are of great importance for the next generation communication technology.However,they currently suffer from the tradeoff between modulation depth and speed.Here,we introduce two-dimensional(2D)tellurium(Te)nanofilms with the unique structure as a new class of optically controlled terahertz modulators and demonstrate their integrated heterojunctions can successfully improve the device performances to the optimal and applicable levels among the existing all-2D broadband modulators.Further photoresponse measurements confirm the significant impact of the stacking order.We first clarify the direction of the substrate-induced electric field through first-principles calculations and uncover the unusual interaction mechanism in the photoexcited carrier dynamics associated with the charge transfer and interlayer exciton recombination.This advances the fundamental and applicative research of Te nanomaterials in high-performance terahertz optoelectronics.

Two Nonmonotone Proximal Gradient Methods for Nonsmooth Optimization over the Stiefel Manifold

We propose two nonmonotone retraction-based proximal gradient methods for solving a class of nonconvex nonsmooth optimization problems over the Stiefel manifold. The proposed methods are equipped with the descent direction obtained by a proximal mapping restricted in tangent space of the manifold and the BarzilaiBorwein stepsizes determined by two recent iteration points and the corresponding descent directions. By employing, respectively, the Grippo-Lampariello-Lucidi nonmonotone line search strategy and the Dai-Fletcher nonmonotone line search strategy, our proposed methods are proved to be globally convergent. Analysis on the iteration complexity of NPGL for obtaining an?-stationary solution is provided. Numerical results on the sparse principle component analysis problems demonstrate the efficiency of our methods.

Uncontrolled growth of lithium dendrite will lead to low Coulombic efficiency and poor cycle stability,which hinders the commercialization of lithium metal batteries.Herein,a novel modified lithium anode with reduced graphene oxide conductive network containing trace lithiophilic phosphorus(P-rGO/Cu)is prepared by electrospraying technique combined with heat treatment process.The rGO layer has a concave and undulating conductive structure,which can significantly improve the effective electrical contact between lithium metal and the current collector,speed up the kinetics of interfacial electron transport and reaction,and improve the resistance of the negative electrode to the internal stress caused by volume change of the lithium,which is advantageous for the stability of the SEI film.The extremely small and uniformly distributed red phosphorus element avoids the volume change caused by lithiation to the maximum extent.Lithiophilic two-phase compound Li_(3)P obtained by alloying P with Li can directionally induce the homogeneous nucleation and dense deposition of lithium metal,address the issue of lithium dendrites and extend the cycle life of the batteries.The obtained P-rGO/Cu exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with an average Coulombic efficiency(CE)of 98%at a current density of 1 mA·cm^(−2) for 400 cycles,and the capacity retention rate of the full cell matched with lithium iron phosphate(LFP)is 83%after 400 cycles at 1C.

Temporal and Spectral Characteristics of Persistent Emission and Special Bursts of Magnetar SGR J1935+2154 Based on Insight-HXMT

In October 2022, the magnetar SGR J1935+2154 entered the active outburst state. During the episode, the InsightHXMT satellite carried out a long observation that lasted for 20 days. More than 300 bursts were detected, and a certain amount of persistent radiation signals were also accumulated. This paper mainly introduces the results of persistent radiation profile folding and period search based on Insight-HXMT data. At the same time, the burst phase distribution characteristics, spectral lag results of burst, the spectral characteristics of zero-lag bursts and the time-resolved spectral evolution characteristics of high-flux bursts are reported. We found that there is no significant delay feature during different energy bands for the bursts of SGR J1935+2154. The observed zero-lag burst does not have a unique spectrum. The time-resolved spectrum of the individual burst has consistent spectral types and spectral parameters at different time periods of the burst. We also find that the burst number phase distribution and the burst photon phase distribution have the same tendency to concentrate in specific regions of the persistent emission profile.

Analysis of Bright Source Hardness Ratios in the 4 yr Insight-HXMT Galactic Plane Scanning Survey Catalog

We conduct a statistical analysis of the hardness ratio(HR)for bright sources in the 4 yr Galactic Plane Scanning Survey catalog of Insight-HXMT.Depending on the stable(variable)flux F_(s)(F_(v))or spectrum S_(s)(S_(v))of each source,the bright sources are classified into three groups:F_(v)&S_(v),F_(v)&S_(s),and F_(s)&_(s).Our study of the HR characteristics in different types of sources reveals that accretion-powered neutron star(NS)low-mass X-ray binaries(LMXBs)exhibit softer energy spectra than NS high-mass X-ray binaries(HMXBs),but harder energy spectra than black hole binaries in most cases.This difference is probably due to their different magnetic field strengths.Additionally,Fv&Sv LMXBs tend to be harder than Fv&Ss LMXBs below 7 keV,while the opposite is true for HMXBs.Our results suggest that LMXBs may dominate unclassified sources,and NS binaries are likely to be the primary type of X-ray binaries with ambiguous compact stars.By comparing the HR of transient sources in their outburst and low-flux states,it is found that the averaged HR of four sources in the two states are roughly comparable within uncertainties.We also investigate the spatial properties of the three groups and find that Fv&Sv sources are mainly located in the longitude of-20°

Mitigated reaction kinetics between lithium metal anodes and electrolytes by alloying lithium metal with low-content magnesium

Lithium（Li） metal is regarded as a promising anode candidate for high-energy-density rechargeable batteries. Nevertheless, Li metal is highly reactive against electrolytes, leading to rapid decay of active Li metal reservoir. Here, alloying Li metal with low-content magnesium（Mg） is proposed to mitigate the reaction kinetics between Li metal anodes and electrolytes. Mg atoms enter the lattice of Li atoms, forming solid solution due to the low amount（5 wt%） of Mg. Mg atoms mainly concentrate near the surface of Mg-alloyed Li metal anodes. The reactivity of Mg-alloyed Li metal is mitigated kinetically, which results from the electron transfer from Li to Mg atoms due to the electronegativity difference. Based on quantitative experimental analysis, the consumption rate of active Li and electrolytes is decreased by using Mgalloyed Li metal anodes, which increases the cycle life of Li metal batteries under demanding conditions.Further, a pouch cell（1.25 Ah） with Mg-alloyed Li metal anodes delivers an energy density of 340 Wh kg-1and a cycle life of 100 cycles. This work inspires the strategy of modifying Li metal anodes to kinetically mitigate the side reactions with electrolytes.

Extremely strong coupling s-wave superconductivity in the medium-entropy alloy TiHfNbTa

Here we report a TiHfNbTa bulk medium-entropy alloy(MEA)superconductor crystallized in the body-centered cubic structure with the unit cell parameter a=3.35925?,which is synthesized by an arc melting method.Superconducting properties of the TiHfNbTa are studied by employing magnetic susceptibility,resistivity,and specific heat measurements.Experimental results show a bulk superconducting transition temperature(Tc)of around 6.75 K.The lower and upper critical fields for TiHfNbTa are45.8 m T and 10.46 T,respectively.First-principles calculations show that the d electrons of Ti,Hf,Nb,and Ta are the main contribution to the total density of states near the Fermi level.Our results indicate that the superconductivity is a conventional swave type with extremely strong coupling(△C_(el)/γ_(n)T_(c)=2.88,2△_(0)/k_(B)T_(c)=5.02,and λ_(ep)=2.77).The extremely strong coupling behavior in the s-wave type Ti Hf Nb Ta MEA superconductor is unusual because it generally happens in cuprates,pnictides,and other unconventional superconductors.

Cardiac arrest(CA)is one of the most common causes of death.[1-3]Despite extensive studies on the management of CA,the global survival rate in adults is only approximately 7%,and 30-day survival is even less than 2%in China.[4]Some studies have shown that CA patients of cardiac and non-cardiac origin may differ in underlying diseases,clinical manifestations,and prognosis,which leads to diff erences in terms of the pathophysiological mechanism and treatment measure.[5,6]However,little is known about the risk factors in relation to the prognosis of CA across arrest etiologies.
