Synergistic Antibacterial Performance of a Cu/WO<sub>3</sub>-Added PTFE Particulate Superhydrophobic Composite under Visible-Light Exposure

Addition of TiO2 to a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particle-dispersed composite contributes to the self-cleaning properties of the water-repellent composite. however, its application is limited to outdoor usage or under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. In this study, a novel visible-light-sensitive photocatalytic and superhydrophobic material was developed by adding Cu/WO3 to a PTFE particulate composite material to overcome this deficit. A remarkable property of this novel composite material is the synergistic antibacterial performance against Escherichia coli (E. coli), Staphylo-coccus aureus, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus compared with the addition of Cu/WO3 without PTFE particles material. During 24-h exposure in visible light at 2000 lx, the number of viable cells of the three strains on the surface of the 8wt% Cu/WO3-added PTFE particulate composite decreased from 2 – 4 × 105 colony-formation units (CFUs) to less than 10, the limit of detection. This bactericidal rate is four times higher than that of 8wt% Cu/WO3 without PTFE particles material, which is attributed to the air trapped in the rough surface of the novel material providing additional oxygen to the photocatalytic reaction. Even for exposure to visible light at 100 lx, the decrease in CFUs of E. coli on the 12wt% Cu/WO3-added PTFE particulate composite reached nearly 2.0 logs. The characterization of the Cu/WO3-added PTFE particulate composite indicated that the composite material containing 80wt% PTFE maintained a superhydrophobic or water-repellent property with a water contact angle >150。, although the Cu/WO3 in the composite material remained hydrophilic under visible light. The Cu/WO3-added PTFE particulate composite displayed photo-catalytic reactions to decompose oleic acid adsorbed on its surface and gaseous acetaldehyde under UV-A and visible-light illumination. The term ‘biological resources' here means a set of organisms that can be used by man directly or indirectly for consumption. They are involved in economic activities and represent an important part of a country's raw material potential. Many other organisms are also subject to rational use and protection. They can be associated with true resource species through interspecific relationships. The Caspian and Aral Seas are continental water bodies, giant saline lakes. Both categories of species are represented in the benthic and pelagic communities of the Caspian and Aral Seas and are involved in human economic activities. The most important biological resource of the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea is their ichthyofauna, represented by both aboriginal species and species introduced by man in the 20 th century. Among invertebrates, the main biological resource of these saline lakes is the brine shrimp A rtemia. The physical state of the Caspian as a water body is relatively stable but its biological resources are very seriously af fected by irrational use. The Aral Sea since the second half of the 20 t h century has experienced catastrophic anthropogenic regression, which has led to the almost complete loss of its biological resources due to salinization. however, thanks to efficacious engineering measures, it has now become possible to preserve its northern part(Small Aral) and rehabilitate it, lowering the salinity to its former state. The result has been the restoration of its fish biological resources. In the southern part of Aral(Large Aral), which turned into a group of separated hypersaline reservoirs, the only resource species currently available is the brine shrimp A rtemia. The main environmental threats for biological resources of the future Caspian and Aral as well as potential solutions are considered.

In the last few decades,there have been several advances in ultrafast imaging of light propagation with light-in-flight recording by holography(LIF holography),which can capture light propagation as a motion picture with a single shot in ***,we review the recent advances in LIF holography by considering the perspectives of various development of functional imaging techniques and evaluation of LIF holography with numerical simulation *** methods for recording multiple motion pictures such as a space-division multiplexing,a pixel-by-pixel-based space-division multiplexing,and an angular multiplexing technique are added extend the capability of LIF *** numerical simulation models used for investigating the image characteristics of LIF hologram are ***,a summary and conclusion of recent advances in LIF holography is presented.

Assessment of Japanese healthy children’s nutritional status using Waterlow classification

Malnutrition is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality, and may case an undesirable effect on the growth and development in children. There have been several reports about the prevalence of malnutrition in hospitalized children, but reports about malnutrition in a large number of healthy children are quite limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of likelihood of malnutrition in Japanese healthy children. We retrospectively reviewed data of height and weight at a regular health check in 7517 healthy children (age 3 - 17;3747 boys, 3770 girls) during 2008 and 2010 in Nara city, Japan. The data were evaluated using Waterlow classification, i.e., weight-for-height (W/h) and height-for-age (h/A). The prevalence of under-nutrition, as estimated by the values of W/h less than 90% and h/A less than 95%, were 20.1% and 8.3%, respectively, and this prevalence of malnutrition risk tended to vary substantially with age. The peak levels of the prevalence were found to be at around 12 years old for both sexes in W/h, and at around 11 years old for boys and at around 10 years old for girls in h/A. We have clearly demonstrated the existence of certain percentages of the likelihood of malnutrition at different ages in healthy children. These findings suggest that when we want to evaluate the nutritional status using Waterlow classification in hospitalized children, we should be careful by taking such reference values into account.

Objective： The ideal medication for the treatment of acid-related diseases, e.g., peptic ulcers, stress- related gastric bleeding, functional dyspepsia, and gastroesophageal reflux disease, should have a rapid onset of action to promote hemostasis and relieve the symptoms. The aim of our study was to investigate the inhibitory effects on gastric acid secretion of a single oral administration of a proton pump inhibitor, omeprazole 20 mg, and an h2-receptor antagonist, roxatidine 75 mg. Methods： Ten heficobacterpylori-negative male subjects participated in this randomized, two-way crossover study. Intragastric ph was monitored continuously for 6 h after single oral admini- stration of omeprazole 20 mg and roxatidine 75 mg. Each administration was separated by a 7-d washout period. Results： During the 6-h study period, the average ph after administration of roxatidine was higher than that after administration of omeprazole （median： 4.45 vs. 2.65; P=0.0367）. Also during the 6-h study period, a longer duration of maintenance at ph above 2, 5, and 6 was observed after administration of roxatidine 75 mg than after administration of omeprazole 20 mg （median： 90.6% vs. 55.2%, P=-0.0284; 43.7% vs. 10.6%, P=0.0125; 40.3% vs. 3.3%, P=0.0125; respectively）. Conclusions： In helicobacter pylori-negative healthy male subjects, oral administration of roxatidine 75 mg increased the intragastric ph more rapidly than that of omeprazole 20 mg.

Safety and efficacy of carbon dioxide insufflation during gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection

AIM: To compare the safety and efficacy of carbon dioxide(CO2) and air insufflation during gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD).METhODS: This study involved 116 patients who underwent gastric ESD between January and December *** eliminating 29 patients who fit the exclusion criteria,87 patients,without known pulmonary dysfunction,were randomized into the CO2 insufflation(n = 36) or air insufflation(n = 51) *** ESD was performed with a CO2 regulation unit(constant rate of 1.4 L/min) used for patients undergoing CO2 *** received diazepam for conscious sedation and pentazocine for *** CO2 tension(Ptc CO2) was recorded 15 min before,during,and after ESD with *** CO2,the correlation between Ptc CO2 and procedure time,and ESD-related complications were compared between the two *** blood gases were analyzed after ESD in the first 30 patients(12 with CO2 and 18 with air insufflation) to assess the correlation between arterial blood CO2 partial pressure(Pa CO2) and Ptc ***: There were no differences in respiratoryfunctions,median sedative doses,or median procedure times between the ***,there was no significant difference in post-ESD blood gas parameters,including Pa CO2,between the CO2 and air groups(44.6 mm hg vs 45 mm hg).Both groups demonstrated median p h values of 7.36,and none of the patients exhibited *** significant differences were observed between the CO2 and air groups with respect to baseline Ptc CO2(39 mm hg vs 40 mm hg),peak Ptc CO2 during ESD(52 mm hg vs 51 mm hg),or median Ptc CO2 after ESD(50 mm hg vs 50 mm hg).There was a strong correlation between Pa CO2 and Ptc CO2(r = 0.66; P he incidence of Mallory-Weiss tears was significantly lower with CO2 insufflation than with air insufflation(0% vs 15.6%,P = 0.013).CO2 insufflation did not cause any adverse events,such as CO2 narcosis or gas ***: CO2 insufflation durin

We investigated single damascene integration with Porous MSQ (Methyl-Silsesqui-oxane, k value is 2.3) and Spin on Low k MSQ (k value is 2.9) as hard mask on Porous MSQ. Mechanical property of Low k material is improved by Electron Beam (EB) Cure technology. And also One time cure of stacked Low k is successful without any problem. On integration issue of Low k material, we demonstrated low damage resist strip process by using reducing gas chemistry and clarified mechanism of new Cu corrosion mode during CMP process.

Combined assessment of myocardial damage and electrical disturbance in chronic heart failure

AIM To investigate feasibility of combined assessment of biochemical and electrophysiological myocardial impairment markers risk-stratifying patients with chronic heart failure(ChF). METhODS Serum levels of heart-type fatty acid binding protein(h-FABP) as a marker of ongoing myocardial damage and QRS duration on electrocardiogram were measured at admission in 322 consecutive patients with ChF. A prolonged QRS duration was defined as 120 ms or longer. The cut-off value for h-FABP level(4.5 ng/mL) was determined from a previous study. Patients were prospectively followed during a median follow up period of 534 d. The primary endpoint was cardiac deaths and rehospitalization for worsening *** There were 117 primary events, including 27 cardiac deaths and 90 rehospitalizations. Patients were stratified into four groups according to h-FABP level and QRS duration(≥ 120 ms). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that high h-FABP levels [hazard ratio(hR) = 1.745, P = 0.021] and QRS prolongation(hR1.612, P = 0.0258) were independent predictors of cardiac events. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that the combination of high h-FABP levels and QRS prolongation could be used to reliably stratify patients at high risk for cardiac events(log rank test P h ChF.

Biochar is considered a potential technology to enhance chemical fertilizer use efficiency through intensification of the interactions between nutrients and the functional groups on biochar ***,little is known about how the application of activated biochars mixed with urea influences nitrogen(N)mineralization and crop performance in paddy ***,a sawdust-derived fresh biochar(FBC)(ca.400℃)was activated chemically with 15%hydrogen peroxide and biologically with a nutrient solution mixed with a soil inoculum to obtain a chemically activated biochar(CBC)and a biologically activated biochar(BBC),*** chemical and surface properties of FBC,CBC,and BBC were evaluated using spectroscopic methods,i.e.,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance,and potentiometric charge *** N retention capacity of biochars and their interaction with urea hydrolysis were examined in a laboratory incubation ***,a field experiment was carried out in a paddy field with the biochars unmixed or mixed with urea at a 1:1 *** results showed that negative surface functional groups and negative charges were increased on both activated biochars,especially *** activated biochars contributed to a significant reduction in urea-biochar suspension ph and increased N retention in the incubation *** the enhanced surface properties of the activated biochars,no similar increases in rice biomass and grain yield were observed for these biochars in the field ***,rice biomass,grain yield,apparent N use efficiency,and agronomic N use efficiency were significantly higher with the application of the three biochars compared to no-biochar ***,the results indicate that the application of urea mixed with biochar could enhance crop performance,especially in the case of activated biochar,which would enhance N retention in the soil,reducing N loss.
