Effects of spring fire and slope on the aboveground biomass, and organic C and N dynamics in a semi-arid grassland of northern China

The aboveground primary production is a major source of carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) pool and plays an important role in regulating the response of ecosystem and nutrient cycling to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. To explore the mechanisms underlying the effect of spring fire and topography on the aboveground biomass(AGB) and the soil C and N pool, we conducted a field experiment between April 2014 and August 2016 in a semi-arid grassland of northern China to examine the effects of slope and spring fire, and their potential interactions on the AGB and organic C and total N contents in different plant functional groups(C_3 grasses, C_4 grasses, forbs, Artemisia frigida plants, total grasses and total plants).The dynamics of AGB and the contents of organic C and N in the plants were examined in the burned and unburned plots on different slope positions(upper and lower). There were differences in the total AGB of all plants between the two slope positions. The AGB of grasses was higher on the lower slope than on the upper slope in July. On the lower slope, spring fire marginally or significantly increased the AGB of C_3 grasses, forbs, total grasses and total plants in June and August, but decreased the AGB of C_4 grasses and *** plants from June to August. On the upper slope, however, spring fire significantly increased the AGB of forbs in June, the AGB of C_3 grasses and total grasses in July, and the AGB of forbs and C_4 grasses in August. Spring fire exhibited no significant effect on the total AGB of all plants on the lower and upper slopes in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, the total AGB in the burned plots showed a decreasing trend after fire burning compared with the unburned plots. The different plant functional groups had different responses to slope positions in terms of organic C and N contents in the plants. Aims Competition among plants in a community usually depends on their nitrogen(N)-use efficiency(NUE)and water-use efficiency(WUE)in arid and semi-arid *** frigida is an indicator species in heavily degraded grassland,however,how its NUE and WUE respond to N addition in different successional stages is still unclear,especially with mowing,a common management practice in semi-arid *** Based on a long-term controlled experiment with N addition and mowing in an abandoned cropland from 2006 to 2013,we investigated the NUE and WUE oi *** in two patches(*** and herb patches)in 2013 which represented two potential successional stages from herb to grass *** coverage of *** was higher(about 50%)in the herb patch than in the grass patch(about 10%).Stable isotopic C(δ^(13)C)and N(δ^(15)N)as well as C and N pools were measured in plants and *** was calculated as leaf C/N,and leafδ^(13)C values were used as a proxy for *** Findings N addition did not affect WUE of ***,but significantly decreased NUE by 42.9%and 26.6%in grass and herb patches,*** response of NUE to N addition was related to altering utilization of different N sources(NH_(4)^(+)***_(3)^(-))by *** according to the changed relationship between leafδ^(15)N/soil 615N and *** had no effect on NUE regardless of N addition,but significantly increased WUE by 2.3%for *** without N addition in the grass *** addition of N reduced the positive effect of mowing on its WUE in grass *** results suggested that decreased NUE and/or WUE of *** under mowing and N addition could reduce its competition,and further accelerate restoration succession from the abandoned cropland to natural grassland in the semi-arid region.

The response of soil respiration to different N compounds addition in a saline-alkaline grassland of northern China

The increase in atmospheric nitrogen(N)deposition has profound effects on soil respiration(SR).However,the responses of SR to the addition of different N compounds,particularly in saline-alkaline grasslands remain unclear.A 3-year controlled field experiment was conducted to investigate the responses of SR to different N compounds(NH,NO,(NH),SO,and NH,HCO,)during the growing seasons in a saline-alkaline grassland located in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern *** results demonstrated that SR showed a bimodal pattern and a significant interannual diference that was regulated by air or soil temperature and *** addition had a significant effect on SR,and the effect of N addition on SR varied yearly,which was related to seasonal *** mean SR across 3 years(2017-2019)was increased by 19.9%,13.0%and 16.6%with the addition of NH,NO,(NH,),SO,and NH,HCO3,*** highest effect of NH,NO3 addition on SR across 3 years was ascribed to the highest aboveground net primary production,belowground net primary production(BNPP)and soil NO,-***(C loss)was significantly increased while plant productivity(C input)did not significantly change under NH,HCO,addition,indicating a decrease in C *** addition,BNPP was the main direct factor influencing SR in this saline-alkaline grassland,and soil salinization(*** base cations and pH)indirectly affected SR through soil ***,NH,NO,addition overestimated the response of SR to N addition,and different N compounds should be considered,especially in saline-alkaline grassland.

以碱蒿(Artemisia anethifolia)为材料,研究不同质量分数NaCl胁迫下碱蒿幼苗的可溶性糖和可溶性蛋白含量与耐盐性之间的关系。结果表明:随NaCl质量分数的增加,可溶性蛋白含量呈先升高后降低的趋势;茎叶中可溶性糖含量逐渐增加,根系中可溶性糖含量呈先升高后降低的趋势。可见,可溶性糖含量和可溶性蛋白含量可以作为碱蒿的耐盐生理指标。

试验对碱地风毛菊(Saussurea runcinata)苗期分别以NaHCO3和Na2CO3进行胁迫,浓度为0(CK)、30、60、90、120、150、180mmol/L,通过对其脯氨酸、丙二醛、可溶性糖及可溶性蛋白等耐盐碱生理指标的研究,以探讨碱胁迫对碱地风毛菊苗期生理特性的影响。结果表明:NaHCO3和Na2CO3胁迫下,碱地风毛菊中Pro、可溶性糖、可溶性蛋白及MDA含量均显著高于对照,且相同碱浓度胁迫下,根系中的含量显著高于叶片;Na2CO3胁迫对碱地风毛菊的伤害要大于NaHCO3。

Effects of Rumen-protected Methionine on Rumen Fermentation, lactation Performance and Plasma Characteristics in Dairy Cows

The objective was to evaluate effects of rumen-protected methionine （RP-Met） supplementation on rumen fermentation, lactation performance and plasma characteristics in dairy cows. Twenty-four multiparous （2.2 - 0.40 parity） Holstein dairy cows, averaged 620 ± 12.3 kg of BW, 68 ± 2.5 day in milk and daily milk production averaged 26.0 ±0.3 kg/cow were used in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square experiment. The treatments were： control （without RP-Met）, LRP-Met, MRP-Met and HRP-Met with 20, 40 and 60 g RP-Met per cow per day, respectively. RP-Met was hand-mixed into the top one-third of the daily ration. Experimental periods were 30 days with 15 d of adaptation and 15 d of sampling. Dry matter （DM） intake and milk yields were not affected （P 〉 0.05） with increasing RP-Met supplementation. Yields of 4%FCM, ECM, milk fat and milk protein were higher （P 〈 0.03） for RP-Met supplementation than control and were quadratically （P 〈 0.05） changed due to the higher percentage of milk fat and protein for RP-Met supplementation than control （P 〈 0.03）. Ruminal pH tended to be lower （P = 0.071） for RP-Met supplementation than control, whereas total VFA concentration tended to be higher （P = 0.086） for RP-Met supplementation than control. Ratio of acetate to propionate decreased linearly （P = 0.001） from 4.01 to 3.57 as RP-Met supplementation increased due to the increase in propionate production. Digestibilities of DM, OM, CP, NDF and ADF in the total tract were higher （P 〈 0.05） for RP-Met supplementation than control and were quadratically （P 〈 0.05） increased with increasing RP-Met supplementation. Plasma concentrations of glucose not affected （P 〉 0.05） with RP-Met supplementation, Plasma concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids （NEFA） were significantly lower （P = 0.017） for RP-Met supplementation than control and were linearly （P = 0.011） changed. 氮素添加和刈割对内蒙古弃耕草地土壤氮矿化的影响

以内蒙古多伦县恢复生态学试验示范研究站弃耕10余年的草地为研究对象,于2006年起分别设置对照、氮素添加、刈割和氮素添加+刈割4种处理,每种处理6次重复,研究弃耕草地氮素添加和刈割对土壤氮矿化的影响,结合土壤理化性质和植被地上生产力的动态变化,分析弃耕草地土壤氮矿化对植被恢复的响应,为当地草地恢复与重建提供理论依据和数据支持。实验结果表明:1氮素添加显著增加了植物地上净初级生产力(ANPP)和土壤无机氮库,与对照相比分别提高115%和196%,同时显著提高了土壤总硝化速率;但是氮素添加对总氨化速率、土壤微生物生物量碳(MBC)、微生物生物量氮(MBN)、微生物生物量碳氮比(MBC/MBN)、微生物呼吸(MR)以及呼吸熵(q CO2)均无显著影响;2总氨化速率和硝化速率对刈割处理的响应均不显著,但是刈割处理显著降低了土壤MR(P<0.05);3氮素添加+刈割处理5—7a后,土壤总氨化和硝化速率均无显著变化;但是氮素添加+刈割处理显著增加了ANPP、土壤无机氮库和q CO2,同时显著降低了MBC和MBC/MBN。这说明在弃耕草地适应性管理中,氮素添加可以显著提高草地生产力,但是长期的氮添加对土壤微生物氮的转化是否有利还值得我们进一步研究。

太原东山矿区植被自然恢复过程中物种多样性变化

为探讨不同废弃年限的矿区植被恢复过程中植物群落特征,对太原东山地区废弃煤矿区的植被进行了实地调查。结果表明,在所调查的10个废弃矿区的205个样方中共有高等植物121种,分属于43科86属,其中,菊科11属20种,豆科7属18种,禾本科12属15种,3个科合计30属53种,占全部种数的43.80%。表明3个科的植物在东山矿区植被的自然恢复演替过程中所起的作用最大,在该地区的植物区系中占据着重要地位。
