The Heaviside’s(or Benguela)dolphin(Cephalorhynchus heavisidii)is endemic to the west coast of southern *** present study investigated the population genetic structure across a large portion of the species distribution using mitochondrial control region and nuclear(microsatellite)markers.A total of 395 biopsy skin samples were analyzed;they were collected from free-ranging Heaviside’s dolphins in 7 locations along 1650 km of coast between Table Bay,South Africa and Walvis Bay,*** genetic markers rejected the hypothesis of 1 homogenous population but revealed contrasting results in the genetic structuring of putative pop*** DNA suggested either 2 populations or a fine-scale division with 6(sub)populations,while microsatellite markers were indicative of 2 widespread populations with measurable gene flow between *** tests and mismatch distribution of the mitochondrial sequences indicated a departure from mutation-drift equilibrium due to a population expansion at the 2 extremes of the geographic range,but not towards the middle of the *** results highlight the importance of evaluating multiple genetic markers to gain reliable insights into population processes and structure.

The rise in global population has led to explorations of alternative sources of energy and food. Because corn and soybean are staple food crops for humans, their common use as the main source of dietary energy and protein for food-producing animals directly competes with their allocation for human consumption. Alternatively, de-fatted marine microalgal biomass generated from the potential biofuel production may be a viable replacement of corn and soybean meal due to their high levels of protein, relatively well-balanced amino acid profiles, and rich contents of minerals and vitamins, along with unique bioactive compounds. Although the full-fatted （intact） microalgae represent the main source of omega-3 （n-3） polyunsaturated fatty acids including docohexaenoic acid （DHA） and eicosapentaenoic acid （EPA）, the de-fatted microalgal biomass may still contain good amounts of these components for enriching DHA/EPA in eggs, meats, and milk. This review is written to highlight the necessity and potential of using the de-fatted microalgal biomass as a new generation of animal feed in helping address the globa energy, food, and environmental issues. Nutritional feasibility and limitation of the biomass as the new feed ingredient for simple-stomached species are elaborated. Potential applications of the biomass for generating value-added animal products are also explored.

The dopaminergic system controls several vital central nervous system functions, including the control of movement, reward behaviors and cognition. Alterations of dopaminergic signaling are involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, in particular Parkinson’s disease, which are associated with a subtle and chronic inflammatory response. A substantial body of evidence has demonstrated the non-neuronal expression of dopamine, its receptors and of the machinery that governs synthesis, secretion and storage of dopamine across several immune cell types. This review aims to summarize current knowledge on the role and expression of dopamine in immune cells. One of the goals is to decipher the complex mechanisms through which these cell types respond to dopamine, in order to address the impact this has on neurodegenerative and psychiatric pathologies such as Parkinson’s disease. A further aim is to illustrate the gaps in our understanding of the physiological roles of dopamine to encourage more targeted research focused on understanding the consequences of aberrant dopamine production on immune regulation. These highlights may prompt scientists in the field to consider alternative functions of this important neurotransmitter when targeting neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative pathologies.

Background Patients with septic shock have a high mortality. This study used the Surviving Sepsis Campaign （SSC）database to compare characteristics, treatments and outcomes of septic shock patients diagnosed in the emergency department （ED） to patients developing septic shock on hospital floors （HF）.Methods The studied population included patients admitted to the intensive care unit （ICU） of an urban tertiary care medical center over an 18-month period. Acute physiology and chronic health evaluation （APACHE Ⅱ） scores, need for mechanical ventilation （MV）, performance on four of the SSC resuscitation bundle indicators, ICU length of stay （LOS）,hospital LOS and in-hospital mortality were *** Sixty-six ED and 27 HF septic shock patients were included in this study. Urinary tract infections （UTI） and pneumonia were the two most common sites of infection in the ED patients. The sources of infection for HF septic shock patients were fairly well distributed across etiologies. The time to achieve superior vena cava oxygen saturation （ScvO2）＞ 70% in HF patients （（10.8±9.1） hours） was longer when compared to the ED patients （（6.6±-6.1） hours）（P ＜0.05）.Hospital mortality for the ED and HF patients were 25.8% and 59.3%, respectively （P ＜0.05）. Use of MV during the first 24 hours of shock was 44% in the ED patients and 70% in the HF patients （P ＜0.05） and was linked to *** When compared to HF patients, ED septic shock patients have lower in-hospital mortality, there was less use of MV during the first 24 hours following onset of septic shock and the HF patients required a longer time to achieve target ScvO2. The need for mechanical ventilation is independently associated with increased mortality.

rs6311 and rs6313 are two Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) on the Serotonin Receptor 2A gene (5-HTR2A) in complete linkage disequilibrium. Numerous gene association studies have examined the relationships between one or both of these two polymorphisms and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), with conflicting results. The present meta-analysis examined 19 case-control gene association studies, 9 of which included rs6311 (n = 3382), and 15 of which included rs6313 (n = 5590). The strength of relationship with MDD was assessed by pooled odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for both SNPs according to four genetic models. Heterogeneity was measured by Q and I2. Subgrouping was performed by minor allele and by ethnicity. Results were nonsignificant for all models and subgroups, suggesting that genotype alone does not play a major role in genetic susceptibility to depression. The potential for epistatic, epigenetic, and regulatory RNA interactions with these SNPs is discussed, and future areas of research are recommended.

Psychiatry Trainees’ Attitudes towards Psychotherapy

Background: Psychotherapy education is one of the essential components of specialist training in psychiatry according to the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. How psychiatry trainees perceive psychotherapy has major implications for how trainees will learn about psychotherapy during training, how they will utilize it in their future practice, and how they will integrate it into their professional identity. Methods: The study involved the distribution of questionnaires to psychiatry residents at an Atlantic Canadian Medical School. The survey consisted of Likert-scaled items which assessed residents’ attitudes towards being a psychotherapist and their future study and practice plans in psychotherapy. Results: Surveys were completed by 18 out of 25 residents (72% response rate). Half of participants indicated that conducting psychotherapy was highly rewarding and the majority of residents planned to incorporate psychotherapy into their future practice. Several mean differences were also noted between those residents who completed their undergraduate medical education in Canada versus at International locations. Conclusion: Despite the recent changes in psychotherapy training requirements and concerns about psychotherapy’s role in psychiatry, many residents perceive psychotherapy skills as being important for competent psychiatry practice and plan to incorporate their psychotherapy training into their future practice. Additional implications for teaching, future research, and practice are discussed.
