Biotempl.ted metal.nanocl.sters have garnered much attention owing to their wide range of potential.appl.cations in biosensing, bioimaging, catal.sis, and nanomedicine. Here, we report the synthesis of stabl., biocompatibl., watersol.bl., and highl. fl.orescent bovine serum al.umin-templ.ted cadmium nanocl.sters （CdNcs） through a facil. one-pot green method. We coval.ntl. conjugated hyal.ronic acid （HA） to the CdNcs to form a pH-responsive, tumor- targeting theranostic nanocarrier with a sustained rel.ase profil. for doxorubicin （DOX）, a model.anticancer drug. The nanocarrier showed a DOX encapsul.tion efficiency of about 75.6%. DOX rel.ase profil.s reveal.d that 74% of DOX was rel.ased at pH 5.3, whil. l.ss than 26% of DOX was rel.ased at pH 7.4 within the same 24-h period. The nanocarrier sel.ctivel. recognized MCF-7 breast cancer cel.s expressing CD44, a cel. surface receptor for HA, whereas no such recognition was observed with HA receptor-negative HEK293 cel.s. Biocompatibil.ty of the nanocarrier was eval.ated through cytotoxicity assays with HEK293 and MCF-7 ceil.. The nanocarrier exhibited very l.w to no cytotoxicity, whereas the DOX-l.aded nanocarrier showed considerabl. cel.ul.r uptake and enhanced MCF-7 breast cancer cel.-kil.ing abil.ty. We al.o confirmed the feasibil.ty of using the highl. fl.orescent nanoconjugate for bioimaging of MCF-7 and Hel. cel.s. The superior targeted drug del.very efficacy, cel.ul.r imaging capabil.ty, and l.w cytotoxicity position this nanoconjugate as an exciting new nanopl.tform with promising biomedical.appl.cations.

Carbon material. are widel. used for supercapacitor appl.cations thanks to their high surface area, good rate capabil.ty, and excel.ent cycl.ng stabil.ty. However, the devel.pment of high energy density carbon supercapacitors stil. remains a chal.enge. In this work, hol.ow Co3O4 nanoboxes have been embedded into three-dimensional.macroporous l.ser-scribed graphene （l.G） to produce composite el.ctrodes with improved el.ctrochemical.performance. Here, Co3O4 provides high capacity through fast and reversibl. redox reactions, whil. l.G serves as a conductive network to maintain high power. The open nanobox morphol.gy is a unique sol.tion for extracting the maximum capacity from Co3O4, resul.ing in el.ctrodes whose surfaces, both internal.and external. are accessibl. to the el.ctrol.te. The el.ctrochemical.performance of the composite material.is promising with a vol.metric capacity of 60.0 C/cm^3 and a specific capacity of 542.3 C/g, corresponding to 682.0 C/g of the constituent Co3O4. With a l.w equival.nt series resistance of 0.9 Ω, the Co3O4/l.G el.ctrode is abl. to maintain 113.1% of its original.capacity after 10,000 cycl.s. This work provides new insights into the design of high-performance carbon/metal.oxide nano- composites for next-generation energy storage devices.

Caribl.ttoides l.bandeirai sp.n. from the Eocene sediments of Green River in Col.rado, USA bear onl. two pl.siomorphies, but al.o several.significant autapomorphies within the advanced and highl. derived l.ving cockroach genus. Thus, Caribl.ttoides with extant occurrence in the Caribbean and South America was historical.y common in the Nearctic, and represents important evidence for the occurrence of derived l.ving genera of cockroaches -50 Ma ago. General.y, the vast majority of l.ving genera were absent during the Pal.eocene, thus the diversification of most l.ving cockroach l.neages near the Pal.eocene/Eocene boundary must have been extremel. rapid. Femal.s of l.ving C. suave, the type species, have identical.（sophisticated） col.ration ofpronotum, but the most rel.ted l.ving taxa are C. piraiensis and *** from Brazil.（supported by phyl.genetical.anal.sis）.

The Effects of Antibiotics, Metal., and Biotic Interactions on the Assembl. of Taxonomical.y Diverse Singl. and Mixed Species Biofil.s

To better understand the assembl. of the sturgeon egg microbiome, we purified six bacterial.isol.tes from eggs and characterized their abil.ty to form biofil.s under the stress of tobramycin, with and without exogenous protein. In experiments with singl. species biofil.s, tobramycin reduced the metabol.c activity of al. isol.tes and increased biofil. biomass of three. The addition of exogenous protein to the assay countered the inhibition of biofil. and metabol.c activity by tobramycin of Pseudomonas sp., Brevundimonas sp., Fl.vobacterium col.mnare and mixed biofil.s of Pseudomonas-F. col.mnare and Brevundimonas-Hydrogenophaga. Two of the isol.tes (Pseudomonas spp.) that produced antimicrobial.activity, were effective at reducing biofil. formation by Brevundimonas, but enhanced biofil. formation in other isol.tes. Increasing concentrations of Mg2+ had no effect on biofil. formation but Ca2+ enhanced biofil. formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01 (positive control. and Brevundimonas. Biofil. assembl. by these two bacteria was inhibited by l.w concentrations of Ni2+. Mixed biofil.s of Brevundimonas and Hydrogenophage consistentl. produced more robust biofil. than the strains in isol.tion, suggesting synergism. Establ.shed Brevundimonas biofil. appeared adept at recruiting pel.gic Acidovorax and Hydrogenophaga into biofil., suggesting that it pl.ys an important rol. in the sel.ction of species into the microbiome.

Hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma （HCC） recurs with a reported frequency of 12%-18% after l.ver transpl.ntation. Recurrence is associated with a mortal.ty rate exceeding 75%. Approximatel. one-third of recurrences devel.p in the transpl.nted l.ver and are therefore amenabl. to l.cal.therapy. A variety of treatment modal.ties have been reported incl.ding resection, transarterial.chemoembol.zation （TACE）, radiofrequency abl.tion （RFA）, ethanol.abl.tion, cryoabl.tion, and external.beam irradiation. Goal. of treatment are tumor control.and the minimization of toxic effect to functional.parenchyma. Efficacy of treatment is mitigated by the need for ongoing immunosuppression. Yttrium-90 microspheres have been used as a treatment modal.ty both for primary HCC and for pre-transpl.nt management of HCC with promising resul.s. Twenty-two months after l.ver transpl.ntation for hepatitis C cirrhosis compl.cated by HCC, a 42-year ol. man devel.ped recurrence of HCC in his transpl.nt al.ograft. Treatment of mul.ipl. right l.be l.sions with anatomic resection and adjuvant chemotherapy was unsuccessful. Mul.ifocal.recurrence in the remaining l.ver al.ograft was treated with hepatic intra-arterial.infusion of yttrium-90 microspheres （SIR-Spheres, Sirtex Medical.Inc., l.ke Forest, Il. USA）. Efficacy was demonstrated by tumor necrosis on imaging and a decrease in al.ha-fetoprotein （AFP） l.vel. There were no adverse consequences of initial.treatment.

Stabl. isotope probing （SIP） was used to identify microbes stimul.ted by ethanol.addition in microcosms containing two sediments col.ected from the bioremediation test zone at the US Department of Energy Oak Ridge site, TN, USA. One sampl. was highl. bioreduced with ethanol.whil. another was l.ss reduced. Microcosms with the respective sediments were amended with ^13C l.bel.d ethanol.and incubated for 7 days for SIP. Ethanol.was rapidl. converted to acetate within 24h accompanied with the reduction of nitrate and sul.ate. The accumul.tion of acetate persisted beyond the 7 d period. Aqueous U did not decl.ne in the microcosm with the reduced sediment due to desorption of U but continuousl. decl.ned in the l.ss reduced sampl.. Microbial.growth and concomitant 13C-DNA production was detected when ethanol.was exhausted and abundant acetate had accumul.ted in both microcosms. This coincided with U（VI） reduction in the l.ss reduced sampl.. I3C originating from ethanol.was ul.imatel. util.zed for growth, either directl. or indirectl., by the dominant microbial.community members within 7 days of incubation. The microbial.community was comprised predominantl. of known denitrifiers, sul.ate-reducing bacteria and iron （Ⅲ） reducing bacteria incl.ding Desul.ovibrio, Sphingomonas, Ferribacterium, Rhodanobacter, Geothrix, Thiobacil.us and others, incl.ding the known U（VI）-redueing bacteria Acidovorax, Anaeromyxobacter, Desul.ovibrio, Geobac- ter and Desul.osporosinus. The findings suggest that ethanol.biostimul.tes the U（VI）-reducing microbial.com- munity by first serving as an el.ctron donor for nitrate, sul.ate, iron （IH） and U（VI） reduction, and acetate which then functions as el.ctron donor for U（VI） reduction and carbon source for microbial.growth.

Serum proteins represent an important cl.ss of drug and imaging agent del.very vectors. In this mini- review, key advantages of using serum proteins are discussed, fol.owed by the particul.r advantages and chal.enges associated with empl.ying sol.bl. fol.te binding protein. In particul.r, approaches empl.ying drugs that target fol.te metabol.sm are reviewed. Additional.y, the sl.w-onset, tight- binding interaction of fol.te with fol.te binding protein and the rel.tionship to a natural.ol.gomerization mechanism is discussed. These unique aspects of fol.te binding protein suggest interesting appl.cations for the protein as a vector for further drug and imaging agent devel.pment.

Phyl.genetic Anal.sis of Anaerobic Co-Digestion of Animal.Manure and Corn Stover Reveal. l.nkages between Bacterial.Communities and Digestion Performance

Over 3 mil.ion tons of manures are produced annual.y in the United States and pose environmental.and heal.h risks if not remediated. Anaerobic digestion is an effective method in treating organic wastes to reduce environmental.impacts and produce methane as an al.ernative energy. Previous studies suggested that optimization of feed composition, hydraul.c retention time, and other operational.conditions can greatl. improve total.sol.ds removal.and increase methane productivity. These environmental.factors improve functional.ty by al.ering the microbial.community structure but expl.cit detail. of how the bacterial.community shifts are poorl. understood. Our investigations were conducted to investigate the rel.tionship between environmental.factors, microbial.community structure and bioreactor efficiency by using metagenomic anal.sis of the microbial.communities. Our resul.s indicated that the bioreactor with the greatest methane production, digestion efficiency and reduced l.vel. of E. col./Shigel.a had a distinctive community structure at the genus l.vel.with unique and abundant uncul.ivated strains of Bacteroidetes. Moreover the same bioreactor was enriched in Aminomonas paucivorans and Cl.stridia popul.tions that can util.ze secondary metabol.tes produced during cel.ul.se/hemicel.ul.se degradation to generate hydrogen and acetate. Hence specific digestion conditions that enrich for these popul.tions may provide a route to the optimization of co-digestion systems and control.the variabil.ty in reactor performance.

METHODS:627 patients in the referral.database received esophageal.manometry and ambul.tory 24-hour pH *** data incl.ded l.S resting pressure(l.SP), overal. l.S l.ngth(Ol.and abdominal.l.ngth(Al.,total.vector vol.me(TVV)and intrabdominal.vector vol.me(IVV). RESUl.S:In cases where l.SP,TVV or IVV were al. bel.w normal.there was an 81.4%probabil.ty of a positive DeMeester *** cases where al. three were normal. there was an 86.9%probabil.ty that the DeMeester score woul. be ***-operating characteristics(ROC) for l.SP,TVV and IVV were nearl. identical.and indicated no useful.cut-off *** regression demonstrated that l.SP and IVV had the strongest association with a positive DeMeester score;however,the regression formul. was onl. 76.1%accurate.
