Plant phenotyping is typically a time-consuming and expensive endeavor,requiring large groups of researchers to meticulously measure biologically relevant plant traits,and is the main bottleneck in understanding plant adaptation and the genetic architecture underlying complex traits at population *** this work,we address these challenges by leveraging few-shot learning with convolutional neural networks to segment the leaf body and visible venation of 2,906 Populus trichocarpa leaf images obtained in the *** contrast to previous methods,our approach(a)does not require experimental or image preprocessing,(b)uses the raw RgB images at full resolution,and(c)requires very few samples for training(e.g.,just 8 images for vein segmentation).Traits relating to leaf morphology and vein topology are extracted from the resulting segmentations using traditional open-source image-processing tools,validated using real-world physical measurements,and used to conduct a genome-wide association study to identify genes controlling the *** this way,the current work is designed to provide the plant phenotyping community with(a)methods for fast and accurate image-based feature extraction that require minimal training data and(b)a new population-scale dataset,including 68 different leaf phenotypes,for domain scientists and machine learning *** of the few-shot learning code,data,and results are made publicly available.

Purpose. Castleman’s Disease is a very rare medical disease and the presence of this condition in the pleura is even rarer and there are only few reported cases. The presence of symptoms is also unusual and has been mostly described in multicentric cases of castleman’s disease instead of solitary lesions (unicentric castleman). We report a case of unicentric pleural castlema’s disease with presence of constitutional symptoms. Methods. A 36-year-old male without any significant past medical history who presented to the emergency due to an incidental large pleural effusion seen in chest radiograph, but referring chronic constitutional symptoms consistent of significant weight loss and chronic cough. Results. Chest computed tomography revealed a mass and several attemps with minimally invase approach failed to identify the lesion. The mass was excised through VATS but due to its significant vascularity, it had to be converted to open thoracotomy. Conclusion. The treatment of unicentric lesions is mainly complete surgical excision and the prognosis is excellent with some chances of recurrence. There are less than one dozen of reported pleural castleman reported in the literature. This case evidence than unicentric lesion may exhibit constitutional symptoms and confirmed than lesions above 5 cm can be removed by VATS but the chances for conversion to an open thoracotomy are high.

Cadmium(Cd)and lead(Pb)in soil or water environment cause the ecological destruction and environmental deterioration when their contents exceed the natural background *** trace the concentrations of Cd(II)and Pb(II),a sensitive and selective electrode was developed using disposable screen-printed carbon electrode(SPE)immobilized with a composite film of reduced graphene oxide/carboxylation multi-walled carbon nanotubes/gold nanoparticle hybrid(RgO-MWNT-AuNP)throughπ-π*** highly conductive nano-composite layer,“RgO-MWNT-AuNP,”was characterized by scanning electron microscopy,UV-visible spectrometer,cyclic voltammetry,and electrochemical impedance *** wave stripping voltammetry was applied to RgO-MWNT-AuNP/SPE to electroplate bismuth film and monitor the Cd(II)and Pb(II)*** obtain high current responses,the detecting parameters were *** optimized conditions,the current responses showed a linear relationship with the concentrations of Cd(II)and Pb(II)in the range from 1.0 to 80.0μg/L with a lower detection limit of 0.7μg/L and 0.3μg/L(S/N=3),***,the prepared electrode was further employed to detect Cd(II)and Pb(II)in soil samples with good results.

Dynamics of Primary Productivity and Oceanographic Parameters under Influence of the Amazon River Plume

The watershed of the Amazon River discharges about 120,000 m3·s-1?of freshwater into the adjacent platform and oceanic region. The aim of this work was to analyze the distribution of oceanographic parameters, chlorophyll a and primary productivity under the influence of the Amazon River plume, during the period of greatest extension of the Amazon plume. Collections were carried out in September 14 in 16 stations including continental platform and oceanic region. It was possible to observe superficial currents along the coast in the northwest direction, but with less intensity and currents with greater speeds towards the east due to the North Brazil Current retroflexion at this time of the year, transporting the plume to the central Atlantic Ocean. The spatial influence of the plume was observed in the salinity, which ranged from 28 to 36.75, although the high precipitation in the region may also have contributed as a source of freshwater. However, the sampled region showed strong negative linear correlation of silicate, chlorophyll a and primary productivity with salinity. The primary productivity values ranged from 0.04 to 18.81 mg C m-3?day-1, whereas chlorophyll a concentrations ranged from 0.15 mg·m-3?to 1.83 mg·m-3, decreasing their values as they move away from the coast. The Amazon River plume can reach and influence the oceanographic and biological parameters in a large area of this oligotrophic region. However, the results also suggest that the export of material from the adjacent coastal region is another determinant of the region’s productivity.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 geV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
