The realization of a mixed-phase microstructure in strained BiFeO_(3)(BFO)thin films has led to numerous novel effects derived from the coexistence of the tetragonal-like monoclinic phase(T phase)and rhombohedral-like monoclinic phase(R phase).Strong strain and polarization diiferences between the phases should result in a high level of transformation plasticity,which enables the continuous alteration of the relative proportion of R and T states in response to external forces.Although the potential for utilizing such plasticity to control mixed-phase populations under external stimuli is evident,direct experi・mental evidence backed by equilibrium predictions has not yet been fully demonstrated.Here we demonstrate deterministic control of mixed-phase populations in an epitaxially strained BFO thin film through the application of localized stresses and electric fields in a reversible manne匚The results illustrate and rationalize deterministic control of mixed phases in strained BFO films,which could be crucial in tuning their functional properties.The findings also highlight a new multiparametric technique in the scanning probe lithography toolbox based on tip-assisted electric and strain field manipulation of functional properties that might find application beyond the ferroelectric domain and structural phase lithography.

An electrolyte destined for use in a dual-ion battery(DIB)must be stable at the inherently high potential required for anion intercalation in the graphite electrode,while also protecting the Al current collector from anodic dissolution.A higher salt concentration is needed in the electrolyte,in comparison to typical battery electrolytes,to maximize energy density,while ensuring acceptable ionic conductivity and operational safety.In recent years,studies have demonstrated that highly concentrated organic electrolytes,ionic liquids,gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs),ionogels,and water-in-salt electrolytes can potentially be used in DIBs.GPEs can help reduce the use of solvents and thus lead to a substantial change in the Coulombic efficiency,energy density,and long-term cycle life of DIBs.Furthermore,GPEs are suited to manufacture compact DIB designs without separators by virtue of their mechanical strength and electrical performance.In this review,we highlight the latest advances in the application of different electrolytes in DIBs,with particular emphasis on GPEs.

Asthma,a chronic respiratory disease with a global prevalence of approximately 300 million individuals,presents a significant societal and economic burden.This multifaceted syndrome exhibits diverse clinical phenotypes and pathogenic endotypes influenced by various factors.The advent of omics technologies has revolutionized asthma research by delving into the molecular foundation of the disease to unravel its underlying mechanisms.Omics technologies are employed to systematically screen for potential biomarkers,encompassing genes,transcripts,methylation sites,proteins,and even the microbiome components.This review provides an insightful overview of omics applications in asthma research,with a special emphasis on genetics,transcriptomics,epigenomics,and the microbiome.We explore the cutting-edge methods,discoveries,challenges,and potential future directions in the realm of asthma omics research.By integrating multi-omics and non-omics data through advanced sta-tistical techniques,we aspire to advance precision medicine in asthma,guiding diagnosis,risk assessment,and personalized treatment strategies for this heterogeneous condition.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is a major global cancer burden,ranking third in terms of incidence,but second in terms of mortality[1].Early detection of CRC through screening combined with subsequent removal of polyps remains a predominant strategy for CRC prevention.Family history is a known risk factor for CRC[2-4].However,only a few screening guidelines provide recommendations for individuals with familial CRC risk[5].

Development of a Proof-of-Concept multi-method Computer Simulation to Support Rural Healthcare Disaster Preparedness Planning

Due to a lack of resources, rural communities often face challenges when planning catastrophic events. This project involved applying systems thinking and model-based systems engineering to develop a proof-of-concept, multi-method computer simulation and then determining whether the simulation could be used to assess the efficacy of disaster planning approaches on health outcomes in rural communities, as a function of primary healthcare. The project focus was a rural or non-urban healthcare system experiencing a natural hazard. Both system dynamics and discrete event models were incorporated to represent subsystem operations, crucial disaster responses, as well as three key response systems: public health, emergency management, and healthcare. The subsystem models included several components: policies/procedures, communications,resources, exercises/drills/training, healthcare space and staff, and the flow of affected people into and through the system.The combined simulation can serve as a first step to a more comprehensive approach to helping rural communities achieve more efficient and effective healthcare planning for disaster responses.

BACKGROUND Timing of invasive intervention such as operative pancreatic debridement(OPD)in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis(ANP)is linked to the degree of encapsulation in necrotic collections and controlled inflammation.Additional markers of these processes might assist decision-making on the timing of surgical intervention.In our opinion,it is logical to search for such markers among routine laboratory parameters traditionally used in ANP patients,considering simplicity and cost-efficacy of routine laboratory methodologies.AIm To evaluate laboratory variables in ANP patients in the preoperative period for the purpose of their use in the timing of surgery.mETHODS A retrospective analysis of routine laboratory parameters in 53 ANP patients undergoing OPD between 2017 and 2020 was performed.Dynamic changes of routine hematological and biochemical indices were examined in the preoperative period.Patients were divided into survivors and non-survivors.Survivors were divided into subgroups with short and long post-surgery length of stay(LOS)in hospital.Correlation analysis was used to evaluate association of laboratory variables with LOS.Logistic regression was used to assess risk factors for patient mortality.RESULTS Seven patients(15%)with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP)and 46 patients(85%)with moderately SAP(mSAP)were included in the study.median age of participants was 43.2 years;33(62.3%)were male.Pancreatitis etiology included biliary(15%),alcohol(80%),and idiopathic/other(5%).median time from diagnosis to OPD was≥4 wk.median postoperative LOS was at the average of 53 d.mortality was 19%.Progressive increase of platelet count in preoperative period was associated with shortened LOS.Increased aspartate aminotransferase and direct bilirubin(DB)levels the day before the OPD along with weak progressive decrease of DB in preoperative period were reliable predictors for ANP patient mortality.CONCLUSION multifactorial analysis of dynamic changes of routine laboratory variables can be useful for a person-tail

main pulmonary artery aneurysms are rare,mostly asymptomatic and discovered accidentally.The main pulmonary artery aneurysms may be idiopathic or secondary to underlying diseases such as pulmonary hypertension,Behcet’s disease,connective tissue disorders,congenital heart disease,vasculitis,syphilis,tuberculosis and endocarditis.There are some indices that dextrocardia is associated with anomalies of the pulmonary arteries and pulmonary valve.A rare occurrence of main pulmonary artery aneurysms results in a lack of recommendations,so the remaining challenges are whether main pulmonary artery aneurysms should be treated,how,and when.The decision on surgical intervention or conservative treatment of the main pulmonary artery aneurysms depends on its size,etiology and accompanying diseases and includes a multidisciplinary heart team.Our case of the main pulmonary artery aneurysm and pulmonary valve abnormality associated with Ebstein anomaly and dextrocardia in a 67-year-old male patient brings causality considerations and treatment options in such a unique condition.

machine learning approaches are increasingly being applied to neuroimaging data from patients with psychiatric disorders to extract brain-based features for diagnosis and prognosis.The goal of this review is to discuss recent practices for evaluating machine learning applications to obsessive-compulsive and related disorders and to advance a novel strategy of building machine learning models based on a set of core brain regions for better performance,interpretability,and generalizability.Specifically,we argue that a core set of co-altered brain regions(namely‘core regions’)comprising areas central to the underlying psychopathology enables the efficient construction of a predictive model to identify distinct symptom dimensions/clusters in individual patients.Hypothesis-driven and data-driven approaches are further introduced showing how core regions are identified from the entire brain.We demonstrate a broadly applicable roadmap for leveraging this core set-based strategy to accelerate the pursuit of neuroimaging-based markers for diagnosis and prognosis in a variety of psychiatric disorders.
