Left-turn phasing selection considering vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to pedestrian conflicts

Left-turning vehicle movement at signalized intersections with permissive left-turn phases creates safety concerns due to the higher chance of conflict with opposing-through vehicles and *** this research,a simulation-based study was conducted to evaluate pedestrians’impact on traffic conflicts between left-turning vehicles and opposing-through vehicles(V-V conflicts)as well as traffic conflicts between left-turning vehicles and pedestrians(V-P conflicts)in the permissive left-turn phasing *** with different opposing-through volumes,left-turn volumes,number of opposing-through lanes,and pedestrian volumes were modeled in VISSIM,a traffic *** surrogate safety assessment model(SSAM)was used to estimate the number of V-V and VP *** effect of pedestrian presence on V-V and V-P conflicts was evaluated using simulation scenarios with and without pedestrian *** results revealed that pedestrian presence increased both V-V and V-P *** pedestrian presence increased the total number of traffic conflicts,permissive left-turn phasing processed fewer left-turn vehicles to maintain the same level of intersection safety with pedestrian presence compared to the no-pedestrian *** current left-turn phasing decision guidelines do not consider the impacts of pedestrian presence,this research quantified pedestrian-influenced and pedestrian-involved left-turn traffic conflicts to determine appropriate left-turn signal phasing decisions to ensure safe and efficient crossing of pedestrians and vehicles at signalized *** simulation-based study’s findings can be beneficial in the decision making of left-turn phasing selection as the before-after intersection safety performance analysis by collecting field data often resources intensive.

Aromatic self-assembled monolayers with pentafluoro-λ^(6)-sulfanyl(−SF_(5))termination:Molecular organization and charge transport properties

A series of molecules with oligophenylene backbone,thiolate anchoring group,pentafluoro-λ^(6)-sulfanyl(−SF_(5))tail group was synthesized and used as precursors to form self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)on Au(111)*** resulting SAMs feature dense molecular packing,upright molecular orientation,chemically homogeneous SAM-ambient interface,comprised entirely of the−SF_(5)*** SAMs exhibit exceptional wetting and electrostatic properties,showing advancing water contact angles up to 103°and work function values up to 5.96 eV—probably the highest values reported for any aromatic monolayers on *** also feature a comparably low value of the tunnelling decay coefficient(0.38±0.07Å^(−1)),typical of oligophenylene backbone,which is not affected by the introduction of the−SF_(5)*** latter also hardly affects the current densities at a specific bias compared to analogous monolayers with other electronegative tail *** superior electrostatic and good charge transport properties of the designed,SF_(5)-terminated SAMs make them potentially useful for interface engineering in organic electronics and photovoltaics.

Time lag effect of vegetation response to seasonal precipitation in the Mara River Basin

Background Mara River Basin is an ecologically fragile area in East Africa, with a pattern of alternating wet and dry seasons shaped by periodic precipitation. Considering the regional biological traits and climatic change, the vegetation's response to seasonal variation is complicated and frequently characterized by time lags. This study analyzed the variation of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) and investigated its time lag to precipitation at the monthly scale. NDVI characteristic peaks were proposed from the perspective of seasonal mechanisms and were quantified to assess the lag *** The results showed that the Anomaly Vegetation Index could identify low precipitation in 2006, 2009, and 2017. The NDVI showed an increasing trend in 75% of areas of the basin, while showed a decreased significance in 3.5% of areas, mainly in savannas. As to the time lag, the 1-month lag effect dominated most months, and the spatiotemporal disparities were noticeable. Another method considering the alternations of wet and dry seasons found that the time lag was approximately 30 days. Based on the time distribution of NDVI characteristic peaks, the average time lag was 35.5 days and increased with the range of *** The findings confirmed an increasing trend of NDVI in most regions from 2001 to 2020, while the trends were most obvious in the downstream related to human activities. The results could reflect the time lag of NDVI response to precipitation, and the 1-month lag effect dominated in most months with spatial heterogeneity. Four NDVI characteristic peaks were found to be efficient indicators to assess the seasonal characteristics and had a great potential to quantify vegetation variation.

Comparative efficacy of secukinumab against adalimumab and infliximab in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis

Background: Psoriasis is a common, chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease with increased epidermal proliferation. The objective of this review was to systematically identify the evidence and perform a network meta-analysis (NMA) to estimate the relative efficacy of secukinumab (SEC) against adalimumab (ADA) and infliximab (INF) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque ***: A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted according to a pre-specified protocol to identify relevant studies. Initially, the databases were searched from database inception till June 2013, and the SLR was updated in April 2020. The eligibility criteria included adult patients (≥18 years old) with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, and the SLR included randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The comparators of interest were SEC, ADA, INF, and placebo (PLA), while outcomes of interest were Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) (50, 75, and 90) at weeks 12, 16, and 24. A Bayesian NMA for PASI was utilized with a framework that evaluated the probability of PASI responses in different categories of PASI thresholds within a single ***: A total of 23 RCTs that assessed the efficacy of SEC, ADA, and INF in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis were identified. At 12 weeks, SEC was associated with a significantly better response compared with PLA and ADA for PASI 75 and 90, while response results were comparable against INF. At 12 weeks, risk ratio (95% confidence interval) derived from NMA for SECvs. ADA and INF for PASI 75 was 1.35 (1.19, 1.57) and 1.01 (0.90, 1.18), respectively. At the 16-week and 24-week time interval, SEC was significantly better than PLA, ADA, and INF for PASI 75 and ***: Efficacy of SEC in the treatment of patient populations with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis is well demonstrated through NMA.

Recovery of rare earth metals through biosorption: An overview

Rare earth metals （REMs） are a series of 17 elements that have widespread and unique applications in high technology, power generation, communications, and defense industries. These resources are also pivotal to emergent sustainable energy and car- bon alternative technologies. Recovery of REMs is interesting due to its high market prices along with various industrial applications. Conventional technologies, viz. precipitation, filtration, liquid-liquid extraction, solid-liquid extraction, ion exchange, super critical extraction, electrowinning, electrorefining, electroslag ref＇ming, etc., which have been developed for the recovery of REMs, are not economically attractive. Biosorption represents a biotechnological innovation as well as a cost effective excellent tool for the recovery of rare earth metals from aqueous solutions. A variety ofbiomaterials such as algae, fungi, bacteria, resin, activated carbon, etc., have been reported to serve as potential adsorbents for the recovery of REMs. The metal binding mechanisms, as well as the parameters in- fluencing the uptake of rare earth metals and isotherm modeling are presented here. This article provides an overview of past achievements and current scenario of the biosorption studies carried out using some promising biosorbents which could serve as an economical means for recovering REMs. The experimental findings reported by different workers will provide insights into this re- search frontier.

In patients with lagophthalmos due to eyelid trauma,it is imperative to ensure adequate closure of the eye to protect the ocular *** it is difficult to surgically close eyelids by conventional methods of tarsorrhaphy,such as intermarginal suture tarsorrhaphy,Week’s tarsorrhaphy,and tongue-in-groove *** need intact eyelid tissues to perform these procedures and might not be possible in patients with severe lagophthalmos due to lost/damaged eyelid tissues either due to deficient length of tissues or increased tension at the wound site,which can result in surgical failure.[1]

Half-a-century(1971–2020)of glacier shrinkage and climatic variability in the Bhaga basin,western Himalaya

Glacier shrinkage is a globally occurring ***-resolution change detection based on frequent mapping and monitoring of high-altitude glaciers is necessary to precisely evaluate future water availability and to understand glacier evolution under different climatic scenarios in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalayan(HKH)*** also holds true for the Bhaga basin of the western *** study investigates glacier and glacier lake changes in the Bhaga basin,over the last five decades based on satellite imagery including Corona KH4(1971),Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus(ETM+;2000),Linear Imaging Self-Scanning Sensor(LISS Ⅳ;2013),and Sentinel 2(2020).Regional temperature and precipitation trends were evaluated from gridded climatic datasets(1900–2020).In the Bhaga basin 306 glaciers(>0.2 km^(2))were mapped with a total area of 360.3±4.0 km^(2),of which 55.7±0.6 km^(2)was covered with debris in *** total glacier covered area decreased by∼8.2±1.5%(0.16±0.03%yr-1)during the entire observation period 1971–2020,with noticeable heterogeneity between tributary *** the past two decades(2000–2020),the deglaciation rate has increased significantly(0.25%yr-1)compared to the previous decades(1971–2000;0.12%yr-1).Glacier lake area increased by 0.6±0.1 km^(2)(0.012 km^(2)yr-1)between 1971 and *** NCEP/NCAR climatic data reveals an increase of 0.63℃in temperature and a decrease of 6.39 mm in precipitation for the period 1948–*** comparison,APHRODITE data shows an increasing trend in temperature of 1.14℃between 1961 and 2015 and decreasing trend in precipitation of 31 mm between 1951 and *** NCEP/NCAR and APHRODITE data reveal significant temperature increase and precipitation decrease since the 1990s,which have probably augmented ice loss in the Bhaga basin during the early 21st century.
