Dietary Green tea Extract and Antioxidants Improve Insulin Secretory Functions of Pancreatic β-Cells in Mild and Severe Experimental Rodent Model of Chronic Pancreatitis

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disorder of the pancreas. It is predominantly idiopathic (with an unknown cause) in India and mostly due to alcohol in the West. Diabetes that occur secondary to chronic pancreatitis (t3c Diabetes) is often brittle, and is difficult to attain normoglycemia with conventional treatment requiring multiple doses of insulin. Mild and severe model of CP was induced in mice by repeated intraperitoneal injections of cerulein and L-arginine respectively with an intent to study islet dysfunction and develop therapeutic strategy in animal models of CP. Dietary intervention of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) was tested in both the models of CP for its beneficial effects on insulin secretory functions. Pancreata collected upon euthanasia were used to study alterations in the morphology of pancreatic parenchyma and inflammation by staining with H&E and fibrotic changes by Masson’s trichrome and picrosirius staining. Insulin secretory functions of islets were evaluated to test the efficacy of the dietary intervention on β-cell functions. Intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test was performed to monitor the glucose homeostasis before and after the dietary intervention. Both the models resulted in CP with dispersed acini, inflammation and fibrosis. the loss of acini and extent of fibrosis was more in L-arginine model. 2-fold improvement in glucose-stimulated insulin secretory functions of islets was observed with 0.5% EGCG dietary intervention in cerulein model of CP and 1.6-fold in L-arginine model of CP. A further improvement in insulin secretion by 3.2-fold was observed with additional dietary supplements like N-acetyl cysteine, curcumin in combination with EGCG. Our results thus demonstrate and highlight the therapeutic potential of dietary green tea (EGCG) supplementation in reversing islet dysfunction and improving glucose homeostasis in experimental chronic pancreatitis in mice.

BACKGROUND Cannabis use has increased among young individuals in recent *** dependent cannabis use disorder(CUD)has been associated with various cardiac events,its effects on young adults without concurrent substance use remain *** to examine trends in hospitalizations for major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCE)in this *** used the National Inpatient Sample(2016-2019)to identify hospitalized young individuals(18-44 years),excluding those with concurrent substance usage(tobacco,alcohol,and cocaine).they were divided into CUD+and CUD-.Using International Classification of Diseases-10 codes,we examined the trends in MACCE hospitalizations,including all-cause mortality(ACM),acute myocardial infarction(AMI),cardiac arrest(CA),and acuteischemic stroke(AIS).RESULtSOf 27.4 million hospitalizations among young adults without concurrent substance abuse,4.2%(1.1 million)hadco-existent *** CUD+group,hospitalization rates for MACCE(1.71%vs 1.35%),AMI(0.86%vs 0.54%),CA(0.27%vs 0.24%),and AIS(0.49%vs 0.35%)were higher than in CUD-group(Pte of ACMhospitalizations was lower in CUD+group(0.30%vs 0.44%).From 2016 to 2019,CUD+group experienced arelative rise of 5%in MACCE and 20%in AMI hospitalizations,compared to 22%and 36%increases in CUDgroup(Pthe CUD+group had a 13%relative decrease in ACM hospitalizations,compared to a 10%relative rise in CUD-group(Pted for confounders,MACCE odds among CUD+cohort remain comparable between 2016 and *** CUD+group had higher rates of MACCE,but the rising trends were more apparent in the CUD-group ***,the CUD+group had lower ACM rates than the CUD-group.

Reconstructing Missing Hourly Real-time Precipitation Data Using a Novel Intermittent Sliding Window Period technique for Automatic Weather Station Data

Precipitation is the most discontinuous atmospheric parameter because of its temporal and spatial variability. Precipitation observations at automatic weather stations（AWSs） show different patterns over different time periods. this paper aims to reconstruct missing data by finding the time periods when precipitation patterns are similar, with a method called the intermittent sliding window period（ISWP） technique—a novel approach to reconstructing the majority of non-continuous missing real-time precipitation data. the ISWP technique is applied to a 1-yr precipitation dataset（January 2015 to January 2016）, with a temporal resolution of 1 h, collected at 11 AWSs run by the Indian Meteorological Department in the capital region of Delhi. the acquired dataset has missing precipitation data amounting to 13.66%, of which 90.6% are reconstructed successfully. Furthermore, some traditional estimation algorithms are applied to the reconstructed dataset to estimate the remaining missing values on an hourly basis. the results show that the interpolation of the reconstructed dataset using the ISWP technique exhibits high quality compared with interpolation of the raw dataset. By adopting the ISWP technique, the root-mean-square errors（RMSEs）in the estimation of missing rainfall data—based on the arithmetic mean, multiple linear regression, linear regression,and moving average methods—are reduced by 4.2%, 55.47%, 19.44%, and 9.64%, respectively. However, adopting the ISWP technique with the inverse distance weighted method increases the RMSE by 0.07%, due to the fact that the reconstructed data add a more diverse relation to its neighboring AWSs.

A Comparative Study on the Corrosion Behaviour of Hard Anodic Coatings on AA 6061 Obtained Using DC and Pulsed DC Power Sources

the corrosion behaviour of the hard anodic coatings prepared by three different methods viz., conventional hard anodizing （C-HA）, pulse hard anodizing （P-HA） and low voltage room temperature pulse hard anodizing （LVP- HA） on AA 6061 was compared using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） and linear polarisation. Scanning electron microscope （SEM） was used to study the surface morphology before and after corrosion. EIS data revealed that no significant difference in corrosion resistance was observed among three types. Rp, Icorr and Ecorr were found to be highly stable over the exposure period up to 72 h which confirms the excellent corrosion resistance. the studies indicate that the corrosion resistance of LVP-HA and P-HA, which are processed at lower voltage and at relatively higher temperatures, are comparable to that of C-HA which is processed at sub-zero temperatures and high operating voltages. the corrosion resistance of all coatings was found to be improved after hydrothermal sealing.

Comparison of microwave and autoclave treatment for biomedical waste disinfection

As the world is facing a Covid-19 pandemic,this virus teaches a lesson about the importance of on-site ***-site disinfection/sterilization with real-time monitoring of biomedical waste generated from the medical facilities is mandatory to prevent hospital-acquired infection(HAI).In this study,the life cycle assessment of two technologies,i.e.,microwave(radiation-based)and autoclave(steam-based)were performed to summarize the inside-out evaluation of both technologies in terms of efficiency,efficacy,and *** results of disinfection efficacy indicated a log 10 reduction(almost 100%)in the vegetative load of microorganisms compared to the control,showing a similar level of disinfection efficacy of both ***,both technologies were compared on several parameters,and it was discovered that the autoclave uses more time and resources than the *** total cost of an autoclave to the government is approximately double that of a microwave,while the operational cost of an autoclave is more than double that of a *** findings from this study indicate that MACS may be used as a dry technique of biomedical disinfection,and its portability,tunability,and compactness make it a suitable alternative for biomedical disinfection and sterilization.

Fabrication and Characterisation of Rutile-tiO_2 Coatings on Metallic Alloy Substrates

In the present work, attempts have been made to extend the use of the tribological and chemical properties of rutile-tiO2 to metallic alloy systems, by forming a rutile coating on the metallic substrates. two metallic alloys were selected in this study, including AISI316L austenitic stainless steel and aluminium alloy. the rutile-based coatings were fabricated by magnetron sputter deposition of a pure titanium coating first, and then thermal oxidation of the coated specimens to partially convert the titanium coating to rutile oxide and to promote interfacial reactions which can significantly enhance the coating-substrate adhesion strength. the structures and properties of the coating-substrate systems were characterized by a variety of analytical and experimental techniques, including X-ray diffraction, glow discharge spectrometry, high resolution SEM, nanoindentation, microscratch, friction and wear testing, as well as electrochemical testing. the results show that the friction and wear properties, as well as the corrosion resistance of the metallic alloys can be significant enhanced by surface engineering with rutile-tiO2.

Background:Male infertility poses a growing challenge to the healthcare system,with its prevalence on the *** lifestyle,food,and addictions such as smoking,alcoholism,*** the *** several approaches are being investigated to prevent and treat this condition,each therapeutic approach has its *** medications continue to play a crucial role in the healthcare *** recent years,there has been a shift towards determining the efficacy of phytochemicals(or,herbal drugs)as ***:to evaluate the effect of various herbs,plant,metabolites,or a part of plant in management of non-genetic male ***:the male infertility-associated keywords were searched in PubMed,excluding those non-English writen papers.A total of 146 pertinent and closely connected records were included for full reading and inclusion in the systemic ***:the manuscript focuses on individual herbal drug components,their active ingredients,their role in improving the condition and quality of life,and decreasing the prevalence of male ***:Herbal medicinal plants show promising outcomes to treat male *** alternatives are appealing and have regained *** future holds promise for some of these herbal treatments to advance with many showing improved outcomes in males with infertility issues.

Predator prey model with harvesting is well studied. the role of disease in such system has a great importance and cannot be ignored. In this study we have considered a predator prey model with disease circulating in the predator population only and we have also considered harvesting in the prey and in the susceptible predator. We have studied the local stability, Hopf bifurcation of the model system around the equilibria. We have derived the ecological and the disease basic reproduction numbers and we have observed its importance in the community structure of the model system and in controlling disease propagation in the predator population. We have paid attention to chaotic dynamics for increasing the force of infection in the predator. Chaotic population dynamics can exhibit irregular fluctuations and violent oscillations with extremely small or large population abundances. In this study main objective is to show the role of harvesting in controlling chaotic dynamics. It is observed that reasonable harvesting on the prey and the susceptible predator prevents chaotic dynamics.

Alternative food and external source of infection stabilize predator-prey oscillations -- A conclusion drawn from an eco-epidemiological model

Das et al. [Effect of disease-selective predation on prey infected by contact and external sources, Biosystems 95（3）（2009） 188-199] proposed an eco-epidemiological model where the prey species is infected through the external source of infection and contact of the species. In this present study we have modified their model by assuming that the predator consumes both the susceptible as well as the infected prey following the modified Holling type-Ⅱ functional response. Our main focusing points of this study are the role of infection rate （both internal and external）, alternative food, and half-saturation constant in the predator prey dynamics with disease in the prey population. We have shown the local stability of the boundary as well as the interior equilibrium point under certain conditions. We have Mso worked out the permanence of the system. Our simulation results show that the system enters into limit cycle oscillations from stable position for higher values of the contact rate. But it is also shown that the external infection rate, enrichment of the alternative food of the predator population and the half-saturation constant can prevent limit cycle oscillations and stabilize the system. thus external dis- ease propagation, enrichment of the alternative food resource, and the half-saturation constant are the key factors for preventing the oscillatory behavior of the species.
