Dependence of fluid flow on cleat aperture distribution and aperture–length scaling: a case study from Gondwana coal seams of Raniganj Formation, Eastern India

Dimensions and mutual relationships amongst fracture(cleat)parameters such as maximum aperture width,average aperture width,length,spacing *** the connectivity within a fracture network and the fluid flow in a coal seam as the matrix permeability,here,is *** this paper,we document cleat size distributions and investigate length–aperture relationships from coals of Raniganj coalfield in Eastern *** coalfield has a proven extractable reserve of six billion tons of coal and holds immense potential to be one of the largest coal bed methane fields serving India’s growing energy ***,cleat length(L)correlates with corresponding maximum aperture width(Dmax)in a power-law function with an exponent of 0.84(DmaxαL0.84)instead of the commonly observed exponents of 1 or 0.5 applicable for other natural‘opening-mode’*** conventional wisdom pertains that laminar fluid flow(Q)through an isolated,smooth-walled,parallel-plate fracture,embedded in an impermeable matrix,is directly proportional to the cube of its aperture width(b,equivalent to Davg;cubic law:Qαb3).This assumes a linear relationship between length and fracture ***,the modified relationship between cleat length and average aperture width changes the cubic law applicable for Raniganj coal seam and now fluid flow correlates with aperture width in a power-law function with an exponent of 4.25(Qαb4.25)instead of 3(cube).Such simplifications will come handy for the modeling and estimation of fluid flow as it will reduce the effort of cleat length measurement which is anyway difficult and can be misleading due to the risk of undersampling.

Molecular exposition of broad‑spectrum antibacterial efficacy by p‑coumaric acid from an edible mushroom Termitomyces heimii:in vitro and in silico approach

P-Coumaric acid was previously reported to contain antioxidant,antidiabetic,anti-inflammatory,antiplatelet,antiulcer and anticancer *** with these,the present work has been conducted to study the antibacterial activity of p-coumaric *** could be used to control broad-spectrum microbiome-based inflammation or in cancer *** analysis of methanolic extract from the mushroom Termitomyces heimii has exhibited a rich fraction of p-coumaric acid(p-CA),which in the pure form showed significant bactericidal *** predict the molecular interactions associated with the bactericidal mechanism of p-CA,the transmembrane protein sequences of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were retrieved from the IMG–JGI database,screened and then aligned using Clustal X2 and PHYLIP 3.69 *** common sequences were subjected to tertiary structure prediction using Phyre2 server,followed by quality assessment through the Ramachandran ***,the 3D molecular structure of p-CA was downloaded from PubChem and docked with the selected tertiary structures using Patchdock and showed higher affinity towards 12 common transmembrane protein structures,amongst which CDP-diacylglycerol–glycerol-3-phosphate 3-phosphatidyl transferase(PgsA)exhibited best dock-ing with p-CA on the basis of ACE value(–249 kcal/mol).This fact revealed that p-CA can block the normal functioning of membrane-bound enzyme PgsA,consequently leading to the interruption in the synthesis and recycling of an essential membrane component phosphatidylglycerol(PG),resulting in membrane disruption followed by cell ***,for the first time we reported the molecular insights and fundamental biochemical events underlying the bactericidal action by p-CA,to explore new perspective to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Trace fossil evidences of an Early Miocene paleoseismic event and depositional regime change from the Kutch(Kachchh) Basin

Unconsolidated siliciclastic sediments can undergo post-burial deformation, which leads to the formation of distinctive sedimentary structures, known as soft-sediment deformation structures(SSDS). The presence of a series of sand volcanoes confined to a particular lithostratigraphic horizon can represent a paleoseismic activity and, thereby, exemplifies the concept of “seismite”. The Kutch Basin has been a tectonically active region since the initiation of eastern Gondwana rifting followed by a tectonic inversion during the Cenozoic due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. A stratum-bound series of sand volcanoes belonging to the Khari Nadi Formation(KNF) is exposed along the banks of Khari River. They separate the shallow marine deposits below and non-marine deposits above with their characteristic marine and paleosol trace fossil suites, respectively. Although a seismogenic origin has been much debated for the SSDS,the ichnofabric analysis of the sand-volcano-bearing stratum unequivocally points toward such an origin under a shallow seafloor condition. In addition to the sedimentary regime change from an open shallow-marine setting to a continental depositional environment concomitant with basinal uplift, the behavior of the burrowing crustaceans testifies to a syn-depositional development of a fault network associated with the fluidization, sand volcanism, and the resilience of the trace-producers in surviving those processes until the sedimentary regime change in the overlying strata. Although the ichno-sedimentological evidence apparently differs from the previous works that proposed a continuous base-level rise from the beginning of deposition of the Khari Nadi Formation up to the middle part of the overlying Chhasra Formation, the paleoseismic activity,its ichnologic signature, and the depositional regime change refer to a higher-resolution(i.e., lower-order)sequence-stratigraphic change causing a short-duration regression within a longer-durat

Certain Curvature Conditions on P-Sasakian Manifolds Admitting a Quater-Symmetric Metric Connection

The authors consider a quarter-symmetric metric connection in a P-Sasakian manifold and study the second order parallel tensor in a P-Sasakian manifold with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Then Ricci semisymmetric P-Sasakian manifold with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection is considered. Next the authors study ξ-concircularly flat P-Sasakian manifolds and concircularly semisymmetric P-Sasakian manifolds with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Furthermore, the authors study P-Sasakian manifolds satisfying the condition Z(ξ,Y)·S=0,where Z,S are the concircular curvature tensor and Ricci tensor respectively with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Finally, an example of a 5-dimensional P-Sasakian manifold admitting quarter-symmetric metric connection is constructed.

An ultra-sensitive dual-mode imaging system using metal-enhanced fluorescence in solid phantoms

In this study, we developed a highly sensitive dual-mode imaging system using gold nanoparticles （GNPs） conjugated to various fluorophores in solid phantoms. The system consists of fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy （FLIM） for surface imaging, diffusion reflection （DR） for deep-tissue imaging （up to 1 cm）, and metal-enhanced fluorescence （MEF）. We detected quenching in the fluorescent intensity （FI） for the conjugation of both gold nanospheres （GNS） and gold nanorods （GNRs） to Fluorescein, which has an excitation peak at a wavelength shorter than the surface plasmon resonance （SPR） of both types of GNPs. Enhanced FI was detected in conjugation to Rhodamine B （RhB） and Sulforhodamine B （SRB）, both with excitation peaks in the SPR regions of the GNPs. The enhanced FI was detected both in solution and in solid phantoms by the FLIM measurements. DR measurements detected the presence of GNRs within the solid phantoms by recording the dropped rates of light scattering in wavelengths corresponding to the absorption spectra of the GNRs. With the inclusion of MEF, this promising dual-mode imaging technique enables efficient and sensitive molecular and functional imaging.

Oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is the key step involved both in water splitting devices and rechargeable metal-air batteries,and hence,there is an urgent need for a stable and low-cost material for efficient *** the present investigation,Co-Fe-Ga-NiZn(CFGNZ)high entropy alloy(HEA)has been utilized as a low-cost electrocatalyst for ***,after cyclic voltammetry activation,CFGNZ-nanoparticles(NPs)are covered with oxidized surface and form high entropy(oxy)hydroxides(HEOs),exhibiting a low overpotential of 370 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm^(2)with a small Tafel slope of 71 mV/*** alloy has higher electrochemical stability in comparison to state-of-the art RuO2 electrocatalyst as no degradation has been observed up to 10 h of *** electron microscopy(TEM)studies after 10 h of long-term chronoamperometry test showed no change in the crystal structure,which confirmed the high stability of *** density functional theory(DFT)based calculations show that the closeness of d(p)-band centers to the Fermi level(EF)plays a major role in determining active *** work highlights the tremendous potential of CFGNZ HEA for OER,which is the primary reaction involved in water splitting.

A Rare Case of Fish Bone Penetrating Injury to Radius Causing Osteitis and Non-Healing Sinus

Penetrating injury to radius or any other bone by fish bone is a rare kind of injury. Commonly metallic sharp objects, bullets, sharpnels, glass particles, hard wooden pieces are the causes of penetrating injury to bones. Radio-opaque objects are easy to detect and thus retrieval is relatively simpler than the radiolucent objects. Non-biological foreign bodies do not incite any reaction in the host bone whereas biological foreign bodies of either plant or animal origin cause hypersensitivity reaction. Osteitis along with excessive formation of new bones may be presented as a part of host reaction to the foreign body. We are presenting here an interesting case of a fisherman boy who sustained penetrating injury to radius by fish bone resulting in osteitis and a chronic non-healing sinus with watery discharge.

An Herbal Formula LI85008F Inhibits Lipogenesis in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

The present study demonstrates a novel herbal formulation LI85008F inhibiting adipocyte differentiation and potentiates lipolysis in 3T3-L1 mouse adipocytes. LI85008F is formulated by combining extracts of three Indian herbs Moringa oleifera, Murraya koenigii and Curcuma longa. Oil red O staining of 3T3-L1 adipocytes reveals that LI85008F is a synergistic formulation that inhibits adipocyte differentiation in a dose dependent manner and concurrently down regulates the key adipogenic transcription factors Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma (PPAR) and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein α (C/EBP). LI85008F confers significant reductions in intracellular triglyceride content in a dose dependent manner. Evidence suggests that LI85008F antagonizes PPAR through Ser112 phosphorylation via MAPK/ERK activation. Immunoblot analyses reveal that LI85008F treatment also down regulates the protein expressions of key PPAR responsive gene products such as Adipocyte differentiation related protein (ADRP), CD36, Adipocyte specific binding protein 2 (aP2) and perilipin. In differentiated adipocytes culture, LI85008F treatment results in significantly (p = 0.0169) increased lipolysis as measured by the release of glycerol. LI85008F does not exhibit cytotoxic effect on adipocytes. Taken together, the results suggest that LI85008F inhibits lipogenesis in adipocytes and concurrently antagonizes PPAR? and other lipogenic factors and in addition, potentiates triglyceride mobilization from the fat cells or enhances lipolysis.
