Automated quality inspection of baby corn using image processing and deep learning

The food industry typically relies heavily on manual operations with high proficiency and skills. According to the quality inspection process, a baby corn with black marks or blemishes is considered a defect or unqualified class which should be discarded. Quality inspection and sorting of agricultural products like baby corn are labor-intensive and time-consuming. The main goal of this work is to develop an automated quality inspection framework to differentiate between 'pass' and 'fail' categories based on baby corn images. A traditional image processing method using a threshold principle is compared with relatively more advanced deep learning models. Particularly, Convolutional neural networks, specific sub-types of deep learning models, were implemented. Thorough experiments on choices of network architectures and their hyperparameters were conducted and compared. A Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) framework was further utilized for network interpretation purposes. The EfficientNetB5 networks with relatively larger input sizes yielded up to 99.06% accuracy as the best performance against 95.28% obtained from traditional image processing. Incorporating a region of interest identification, several model experiments, data application on baby corn images, and the SHAP framework are our main contributions. Our proposed quality inspection system to automatically differentiate baby corn images provides a potential pipeline to further support the agricultural production process. (c) 2023 The Authors. Tree species identity and interaction determine vertical forest structure in young planted forests measured by terrestrial laser scanning

Chemically engineered agricultural products such as pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, although used considerably for both industrialized and personal agricultural use, have recently been associated with a number of serious human health disorders. This rapid literature review aims to accumulate and analyze research from the last ten years, focusing specifically on the effects of exposure to glyphosate-based herbicide products such as Roundup as associated with the formation of various neurological disorders. Specifically, this review focuses on laboratory research using animal models or human cell cultures as well as human population-based epidemiological studies. It associates exposure to glyphosate or glyphosate-based products with the formation or exacerbation of neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, seizures, and autism spectrum disorder. In addition, it examines the correlation between the gut-brain axis, exposure to glyphosate, and neurodegeneration.

In this work, four empirical models of statistical thickness, namely the models of Harkins and Jura, Hasley, Carbon Black and Jaroniec, were compared in order to determine the textural properties (external surface and surface of micropores) of a clay concrete without molasses and clay concretes stabilized with 8%, 12% and 16% molasses. The results obtained show that Hasley’s model can be used to obtain the external surfaces. However, it does not allow the surface of the micropores to be obtained, and is not suitable for the case of simple clay concrete (without molasses) and for clay concretes stabilized with molasses. The Carbon Black, Jaroniec and Harkins and Jura models can be used for clay concrete and stabilized clay concrete. However, the Carbon Black model is the most relevant for clay concrete and the Harkins and Jura model is for molasses-stabilized clay concrete. These last two models augur well for future research.

A data-driven indirect method for nonlinear optimal control

Nonlinear optimal control problems are challenging to solve due to the prevalence of local minima that prevent convergence and/or *** paper describes nearest-neighbors optimal control(NNOC),a data-driven framework for nonlinear optimal control using indirect *** determines initial guesses for new problems with the help of precomputed solutions to similar problems,retrieved using k-nearest neighbors.A sensitivity analysis technique is introduced to linearly approximate the variation of solutions between new and precomputed problems based on their variation of *** show that NNOC can obtain the global optimal solution orders of magnitude faster than standard random restart methods,and sensitivity analysis can further reduce the solving time almost by *** are shown on optimal control problems in vehicle control and agile satellite reorientation demonstrating that global optima can be determined with more than 99%reliability within time at the order of 10-100 milliseconds.

School Level Information System (IS) Discontinuance Intention: A Case Study on Information System (IS) Discontinuance of Surigao State College of Technology SSCT

Educational institutions implement school information system (IS) solutions for efficient academic processes and improve the student experience, and thus tend to upgrade to new school IS, ceasing the use of old school IS. Extant studies of information system discontinuance are in organizational in general. This study is solely a school organization setting, specifically a thorough understanding of contributing factors that facilitate the intention of school information system (IS) discontinuance. Organizational level IS discontinuance intention OLIDI model was used as a lens and anchored by grounded theory. Semi-Structured interviews were used to collect data from school administrators and users of information system (IS) of Surigao State College of Technology. A qualitative statistics approach and coding of words are used to analyze the intention of IS discontinuance and provide model for school setting IS discontinuance. The findings show that system shortcomings, organizational initiative, environmental change, system investment, and institutional pressures were the critical determinants of increased intentions to replace the existing school information system (IS). The study findings are useful to school administrators to identify long term flexibility required for policies to overcome the capability of shortcomings that emerge over the system life span and underline risk associated with continued use of unsupported systems.
