Questions concerning the functional role of the hollow region of the butterfly pyrameis atalanta （l.） scale are experimentally investigated. Attention was initially directed to this problem by observation of the complex microstrucmre of the butterfly scale as well as other studies indicating higher lift on butterfly wings covered with scale. The aerodynamic forces were measured for two oscillating scale models. Results indicated that the air cavity of an oscillating model of the pyrameis atalanta （l.） scale increased the lift by a factor of 1.15 and reduced the damping coefficients by a factor of 1.38. The modification of the aerodynamic effects on the model of butterfly scale was due to an increase of the virtual air mass, which influenced the body. The hollow region of the scale increased the virtual air mass by a factor of 1.2. The virtual mass of the butterfly scale with the hollow region was represented as the sum of air mass of two imaginary geometrical figures： a circular cylinder around the scale and a right-angled parallelepiped within the hollow region. The interaction mechanism of the butterfly pyrameis atalanta （l.） scale with a flow was described. This novel interaction mechanism explained most geometrical features of the airpermeable butterfly scale （inverted V-profile of the ridges, nozzle of the tip edge, hollow region, and openings of the upper lamina） and their arrangement.

This paper presents a kind of visual programming, which is called R-technology of programming. The R-technology is independent of any programming language or operating system and the R-chart is in accord with international standard (ISO 8631H). The package of R-technology has been ap.lied to the high level languages such as pASCAl, C, ASSEMBlER, FORTRAN, pl/1, MODUlA-2 and RTRAN. This package is ap.lied to computers ranging from mainframes (IBM 370) and minis (VAX) to micros (IBM/pC).

An efficient approach has been developed for the synthesis of 5,5＇-diaryl-2,2＇-bipyridines via their 1,2,4-triazine *** notable advantages of the present method are：The possibility of varying the aromatic substituents in the positions 5 and 5＇ of bipyridine core and the possibility for obtaining 2,2＇-bipyridines bearing a fused cyclopentene core to increase the solubility in organic *** 5,5＇-diaryl-2,2＇-bipyridines exhibited an intense emission in a range of ca.422-521 nm in acetonitrile solution;depending on the nature of the aromatic substituents and the presence of annulated cyclopentene *** from that,the significant bathochromic shifts of the both absorption and emission maxima were observed in comparison with a number of previously described similar *** some cases the significant increasing of the fluorescence quantum yields took place.

This letter reviews the adhesive and frictional properties of the first mushroom-shaped adhesive microstructure （MSAMS）, which has come a long way from inspiration by the attachment devices evolved in beetles to a large-scale industrial production. It was shown to have an that about twice higher p.ll-off force compared to a smooth control made from the same material measured on smooth substrates. p.ll-off forces measured underwater are even higher than those in air. Moreover, it retained adhesive performance over thousands of attachment cycles and initial adhesive capability could be recovered by washing after being contaminated. In shearing, MSAMS exhibits reduced and stabilized friction in comparison with a smooth control, which demonstrated pronounced stick-slip motion, and shows zero p.ll-off force in a sheared state, allowing the adhesion to be switched on and off. The presence of a fluid in the contact zone showed adhesion enhancement on both smooth and rough substrates. All these features lead us to conclude that MSAMS may have practical potential in a variety of ap.lications.

＜正＞In this study the effect of catalytic surface properties on heat exchange near the bottom surface of a space vehicle entering the Martian atmosphere was studied. It was shown that the catalytic properties of the frontal and bottom surfaces may significantly influence （up to several times） the levels of heat fluxes. It was found also that the physical adsorption of oxygen atoms leads to an increase of heat fluxes, on the surface regions with a temperature lower than 600 K.

Non-linear materials are cornerstones of modern optics and *** dependence on the intrinsic properties of particular materials,however,inhibits the at-will extension of demanding non-linear effects,especially those second-order ones,to widely adopted centrosymmetric materials(for example,silicon) and te chnologically important burgeoning spectral domains(for example,terahertz frequencies).Here we introduce a universal route to efficient non-linear responses enabled by exciting non-linear Thomson scattering,a fundamental process in electrodynamics that was known to occur only in relativistic electrons in metamaterial composed of linear *** a mechanism modulates the trajectory of charges,either intrinsically or extrinsically provided in solids,at twice the driving frequency,allowing second-harmonic generation at terahertz frequencies on crystalline silicon with extremely large non-linear susceptibility in our proof-of-concept *** offering a substantially material-and frequency-independent platform,our approach opens new possibilities in the fields of on-demand non-linear optics,terahertz sources,strong field light-solid interactions and integrated photonic circuits.

生物再生生命保障系统(BlSS)是建立月球/火星基地,实现中长期载人空间飞行必须解决的关键技术。利用高等植物或微藻来生产食物、处理废物、再生O2和水是BlSS区别于其他类型生保系统的重要标志。BlSS在结构和功能上可以分为自养单元和异养单元两部分。本文简单绘制了三种不同的系统构型。在实际选择时,应根据任务需求选择系统综合质量最小的构型而不是单纯追求高封闭度。系统设计过程应遵循物质平衡的基本原则,尤其是与航天员生命息息相关的O2平衡和水平衡。

Achieving effcient,high-power harmonic generation in the terahertz spectral domain has technological ap.lications,for example,in sixth generation(6G)communication *** Dirac fermions possess extremely large terahertz nonlinear susceptibilities and harmonic conversion ***,the observed maximum generated harmonic power is limited,because of saturation effects at increasing incident powers,as shown recently for ***,we demonstrate room-temperature terahertz harmonic generation in a Bi_(2)Se_(3) top.logical insulator and top.logical-insulator-grating metamaterial structures with surface-selective terahertz field *** obtain a third-harmonic power approaching the miliwatt range for an incident power of 75 mW-an improvement by two orders of magnitude compared to a benchmarked graphene *** establish a framework in which this exceptional performance is the result of thermodynamic harmonic generation by the massless top.logical surface states,benefiting from ultrafast dissipation of electronic heat via surface-bulk Coulomb *** results are an important step towards on-chip terahertz(opto)electronic ap.lications.
