Electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction(UOR)is regarded as an effective yet challenging approach for the degradation of urea in wastewater into harmless N2 and CO_(2).To overcome the sluggish kinetics,catalytically active sites should be rationally designed to maneuver the multiple key steps of intermediate adsorption and ***,we demonstrate that metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)can provide an ideal platform for tailoring binary active sites to facilitate the rate-determining steps,achieving remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward ***,the MOF(namely,NiMn_(0.14)-BDC)based on Ni/Mn sites and terephthalic acid(BDC)ligands exhibits a low voltage of 1.317 V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2).As a result,a high turnover frequency(TOF)of 0.15 s^(-1) is achieved at a voltage of 1.4 V,which enables a urea degradation rate of 81.87%in 0.33 M urea *** combination of experimental characterization with theoretical calculation reveals that the Ni and Mn sites play synergistic roles in maneuvering the evolution of urea molecules and key reaction intermediates during the UOR,while the binary Ni/Mn sites in MOF offer the tunability for electronic structure and d-band center impacting on the intermediate *** work provides important insights into active site design by leveraging MOF platform and represents a solid step toward highly efficient UOR with MOF-based electrocatalysts.

Secreted modular calcium-binding proteins in pathophysiological processes and embryonic development

Objective:Secreted modular calcium-binding proteins (SMOCs) are extracellular glycoproteins of the secreted protein, acidic, and rich in cysteine-related modular calcium-binding protein family and include two isoforms, SMOC1 and SMOC2, in humans. Functionally, SMOCs bind to calcium for various cell functions. In this review, we provided a summary of the most recent advancements and findings of SMOC1 and SMOC2 in development, homeostasis, and disease *** sources:All publications in the PubMed database were searched and retrieved (up to July 24, 2019) using various combinations of keywords searching, including SMOC1, SMOC2, and *** selection:All original studies and review articles of SMOCs in human diseases and embryo development written in English were retrieved and ***:SMOC1 and SMOC2 regulate embryonic development, cell homeostasis, and disease pathophysiology. They play an important role in the regulation of cell cycle progression, cell attachment to the extracellular matrix, tissue fibrosis, calcification, angiogenesis, birth defects, and cancer ***:SMOC1 and SMOC2 are critical regulators of many cell biological processes and potential therapeutic targets for the control of human cancers and birth defects.

Convergence of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann System to the Incompressible Euler Equations

In this paper we establish the convergence of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system to the incompressible Euler equations in the so-called quasi-neutral regime. The convergence is rigorously proved for time intervals on which the smooth solution of the Euler equations of the incompressible fluid exists. The proof relies on the relative-entropy method.

Epstein-Barr Virus Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Mucocutaneous Ulceration in a Renal Transplant Recipient with Leucopenia and Hypogammaglobulinaemia

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) mucocutaneous ulceration is a rare complication of immunosuppression that results in painful ulceration of the tongue or gingiva, and less commonly, refractory ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract. High clinical suspicion is required, as failure to diagnose EBV mucocutaneous ulceration may result in significant morbidity and mortality. We report the case of a 64-year-old female renal transplant recipient requiring admission to hospital for management of severe oral and epigastric pain. Examination revealed a large, superficial, well-circumscribed ulcer at the base of the tongue. Blood tests suggested a secondary immunodeficiency characterised by mild leucopenia, hypogammaglobulinaemia, and low memory B-cells with normal immunophenotype. Endoscopy revealed four, cratered ulcers in the pre-pyloric region of the stomach. A core biopsy of the tongue ulcer confirmed EBV mucocutaneous ulceration. The patient’s immunosuppression was optimised, which resulted in complete resolution of the tongue and gastric ulcers at eight and twelve weeks of follow-up respectively.

Post-Disaster Reconstruction of Alishan Tsou Tribe in Different Place and Sustainable Development

After the Morakot disaster in 2009, the affected indigenous tribes suffered from the government’s use of permanent housing as a single reconstruction option, which forced the victims to leave their original land for a new life in a different reconstruction mode. The purpose of this study is to explore the ways adopted by tribal residents to maintain their own culture and tribal life in the process of disaster, post disaster reconstruction and post disaster adjustment. Veoveoana Village in Taiwan is an indigenous tribe that relocated after a disaster and was reconstructed and developed through tourism development. This study performed the research by participant observation and in-depth interviews on Veoveoana Village. The analytical results showed that: 1) development of the tourism industry can result in cultural reconstruction of the post-disaster tribe and maintain the people’s incomes;2) although the government constantly assists with the rehabilitation of tribal industry by various policies, the implementation cannot effectively continue and the outcome is insignificant;3) due to the gap between permanent prefabricated housing and original tribal cultural features, the residential rate is not high. According to the research findings, it is suggested that, in the process of post-disaster reconstruction, the government and private non-profit organizations should respect the intention of the majority of the indigenous people. In addition, it should cultivate professional manpower for the subsidized projects.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SOLITARY WAVE RUN-UP AND OVER-TOPPING USING BOUSSINESQ-TYPE MODEL

In this article, the use of a high-order Boussinesq-type model and sets of laboratory experiments in a large scale flume of breaking solitary waves climbing up slopes with two inclinations are presented to study the shoreline behavior of breaking and non-breaking solitary waves on plane slopes. The scale effect on run-up height is briefly discussed. The model simulation capability is well validated against the available laboratory data and present experiments. Then, serial numerical tests are conducted to study the shoreline motion correlated with the effects of beach slope and wave nonlinearity for breaking and non-breaking waves. The empirical formula proposed by hsiao et al. for predicting the maximum run-up height of a breaking solitary wave on plane slopes with a wide range of slope inclinations is confirmed to be cautious. Furthermore, solitary waves impacting and overtopping an impermeable sloping seawall at various water depths are investigated. Laboratory data of run-up height, shoreline motion, free surface elevation and overtopping discharge are presented. Comparisons of run-up, run-down, shoreline trajectory and wave overtopping discharge are made. A fairly good agreement is seen between numerical results and experimental data. It elucidates that the present depth-integrated model can be used as an efficient tool for predicting a wide spectrum of coastal problems.

Study of a Dual-sided Multiple Fans System with a Piezoelectric Actuator

A dual-sided multiple fans system with a piezoelectric actuator( "D-MFPA"), which is able to drive eight passive vibrating fans and provide two-directional air flows by using only one piezoelectric actuator, has been investigated in this study. Moreover, two types of the fan designs, viz. magnetic fan(MF) and composite magnetic fan(CMF) were also explored. In the investigation of the MF, the results indicated that the resonance frequency of the D-MFPA increased from 27.6 Hz to 66 Hz as the length of the carbon fiber plate(L) decreased from 55 mm to 35 mm. It also decreased the amplitude of the D-MFPA from 12.4mm to 4.8 mm. For CMF, the results showed that the resonance frequency decreased when the length of the Mylar plate(E l) increased, and the maximum decrease was from 66 Hz to 45 Hz when L= 35 mm and E l= 30 mm. Dimensionless heat convection number(M D-MFPA) was defined to describe and quantify the improvement in the thermal performance. The results showed that the optimal M D-MFPA of the single piezoelectric fan was 1.58 for cooling one heat source. By contrast, under the same power consumption, the D-MFPA not only cooled two heat sources but also displayed better thermal performance.

The Mediating Effect of Quality of Life on Tourism Impact and Support Attitude in Alishan Tribes

The purpose of this study was aimed to analyze the effect of indigenous people’s perceived impact of tourism development on tribal quality of life and the support attitude toward tourism development. The research subjects were indigenous people who were at least 20 years old and came from one of eight Alishan tribes in Taiwan. This study conducted an investigation by random sampling, a total of 850 questionnaires were distributed and obtained 827 valid questionnaires. The valid return rate was 97.29%. Statistical analysis was performed on the valid questionnaires using descriptive statistics and partial least squares (PLS). According to the analytical result, Alishan indigenous people feel the negative environmental impact brought by tourism is the highest, but in terms of quality of life, they also maintain of nature and culture. When the positive economic, environmental, and sociocultural impact of tourism is higher, tribal quality of life and indigenous people’s support attitude toward tourism development will be more significant;however, when the negative economic, environmental, and sociocultural tourism impact is higher, tribal quality of life will be lower and indigenous people will tend to resist tourism development. Quality of life was found to be a moderator between tourism impact and support attitude toward development. This study proposed suggestions for indigenous tribes and the government to develop the tourism sector and introduced specific research directions for future tribal tourism researchers.

A Danger Estimation System for Infants Based on a Foreground Dynamic Probability Model

This study presents a danger estimation system to prevent accidents among infants. A video camera positioned above the infant＇s crib captures video. The proposed system can monitor the behavior of infants aged zero to six months. If there is a change in behavior or any other unusual occurrence, the system alerts the person responsible to attend to the baby immediately. The proposed system operates in three phases, which are foreground color model （FC model） construction, infant detection, and degree of danger analysis. During FC model construction, the foreground color histogram is created iteratively; the background image does not have to be constructed first. A motion-history image （MHI） is also obtained based on the motion of the infant. The color and motion information supplied by the FC model and the MHI are combined to detect the infant, who is regarded as the foreground object in the input frame. Moreover, six features of infant behavior are extracted from the detected infant to measure the degree of danger faced by the infant, and the result is used to warn the baby-sitter if needed. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust and efficient.

Backlit Keyboard Inspection Using Machine Vision

A robust system for backlit keyboard inspection is revealed. The backlit keyboard not only has changeable diverse colors but also has the laser marking keys. The keys on the keyboard can be divided into regions of function keys, normal keys, and number keys. However, there might have some types of defects： incorrect illuminating area, non-uniform illumination of specified inspection region（IR）, and incorrect luminance and intensity of individual key. Since the illumination features of backlit keyboard are too complex to inspect for human inspector in the production line, an auto-mated inspection system for the backlit keyboard is proposed in this paper. The system was designed into the operation module and inspection module. A set of image processing methods were developed for these defects inspection. Some experimental results demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed system.
