Using Water Quality Index for Assessing of Physicochemical Quality of Quaternary Groundwater in the Southern Part of Abidjan District (Côte d’Ivoire)

In this study, fourteen physicochemical parameters were monitored at 61 groundwater sampling points located in the southern part of Abidjan District. Each water sampling location was sampled in March and July 2007, representing respectively the long dry season and the long wet season. Groundwater evaluation index and statistical methods were used to assess Quaternary groundwater physicochemical quality in term of drinking and irrigation purposes. The groundwater samples irrespective of seasons fell in mixed K-Na-HCO3 and K-Na-Cl types. Groundwater quality index values varied from 14.01 to 593.44 and from 20.88 to 567.44, in dry and rainy seasons, respectively. In both seasons, 9.83% exhibited poor water quality and 3.27% indicated unsuitable water for drinking purposes. The studied water wells were heavily contaminated with nitrate, nitrite and ammonium in the strongly urbanized areas at Treichville, Koumassi, Marcory, Port-Bou?t and Grand-Bassam. The degree of correlation between physicochemical parameters suggested that groundwater quality was mainly related to geogenic (rock–water interaction) and anthropogenic sources (domestic sewage), and intrusion of marine and lagoon waters in the study area. Sodium adsorption ratio was generally low during study period, indicating most groundwater sampled was suitable for irrigation purposes.

Background: Surgical site infections are serious healthcare problems. The aim was to describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of surgical site infections in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Bouaké Teaching Hospital. Method: This retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study was conducted from January 2019 to December 31, 2021. The data studied included prevalence, initial lesions, type of surgical intervention, type of SSI, bacteria involved, treatment, and outcomes. Results: Forty-four (11%) of the 399 patients included in the study developed a surgical site infection. The mean age was 27 years, with 36 male and 8 female. Initial lesions were predominantly open fractures (n = 31;70%), with a mean delay of 48 hours for surgical management. Emergency interventions accounted for 70% (n = 31) of cases. The NNISS infection risk score was 1 in 80% (n = 35) of cases. Superficial infections (n = 34;77%) appeared early, on a mean 6 days postoperatively. Bacteriological analysis primarily identified Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 10;23%), sensitive to Imipenem and Chloramphenicol but resistant to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, Ceftriaxone, Gentamicin, and Ciprofloxacin. Multidrug-resistant bacteria were found in 89% (n = 8) of cases, with all bacteria resistant to Ceftriaxone. Surgical revision was performed in 10 patients (23%), primarily involving debridement with hardware retention (n = 7;70%). Chloramphenicol was the most commonly used antibiotic post-antibiogram (61%). Outcomes were favourable in 98% of cases. Identified risk factors included the type of lesion according to NRC classification, the delay in managing open fractures, and the NNISS score. Conclusion: The prevalence of surgical site infection was 11%, favoured by the delayed operation of open fractures.

looking of finding an alternative to the use of chemical fertilizers to increase yields of cassava (Manihot esculenta), trials were carried out in the Lamto zone in central Côte d’Ivoire. Thus, the effects of compost and ash from cocoa shell and NPK were tested on the agronomic parameters of cassava. The trial was conducted for two years with four varieties of cassava: Yacé, Alleda agba, Six mois and Bonoua, grown on elementary plots treated with one of these fertilizers. The experimental design was complete randomized blocks with three replicates. Analysis of the results showed that the Six mois variety gave the longest stems (131, 67 cm) with the cocoa shell compost. Marahoué watershed, located in the Center West of Côte d’Ivoire, has experienced significant population growth in recent decades. And a major economic boom linked to intense agricultural activity and the presence of certain industries. This population growth is also accompanied by seasonal water shortages. Hence it needs to better manage the basin’s groundwater, which is a permanent resource and more resistant than surface water to climatic hazards. The objective of this study is therefore to propose a conceptual model of hydrogeological flow for the sustainable exploitation of groundwater resources in the Marahoué watershed. The establishment of the conceptual model was carried out in two stages. The first step consisted in defining the stratigraphic units. For this purpose, three units have been defined. These are the layer of alterite, the useful fissured horizon and the sound basement. The thickness of the layer of alterite varies from 0 to 80 m with an average of 26 m. As for the useful fissured horizon, its thickness is between 43 and 46.5 with an average of 45 m. In addition, the roof of the basement presents a slightly uneven morphology with a North-West, South-East dip and the altitudes are between 150 and 390 m. The second step corresponds to the phase of determining the hydrodynamic parameters. During this phase, the crack porosity, the transmissivity, the conductivity, the storage coefficient, the hydrological balance and the piezometric map were determined. Indeed, these parameters (the crack porosity, the transmissivity, the conductivity and the storage coefficient) confirm not only the heterogeneity of the medium but that the cracked horizon is sufficiently porous to be assimilated to an equivalent continuous medium during the simulation.

Molecular testing sensitivity,which allows for early diagnosis of the 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-19),could be affected by sample quality,storage,and transportation timeframe to the laboratory,along with bias related to the pre-analytic *** present study reports the selection and decontamination of nasopharyngeal samples during COVID-19 management at the Institut Pasteur Côte d’*** objective of this work was to organize sample reception management and report a complete picture of sample selection and decontamination in the context of diagnosis activity *** administrative note creating the selection and decontamination unit of nasopharyngeal samples initiated activities in May *** required human resources and necessary materials were identified and put in *** activity consisted of receiving,sorting,decontaminating,and sending nasopharyngeal samples to different diagnostic *** were recorded *** a six-month period of activities,from a total amount of 11,401 containers received and decontaminated,174,085 samples were selected.A proportion of 92.0%of these specimens met the diagnostic standards,while 7.0%that were found acceptable showed minor ***,a rate of 1.0%of samples with major abnormalities could not be used for COVID-19 testing and,therefore,were ***,the non-conformity rate was reduced by 2.4%after the first term *** and decontamination of nasopharyngeal samples are crucial steps in biosafety optimization for the technical staff and quality improvement of sample care.

land use monitoring occupies a very important place in the analysis of the dynamics of the earth system. It helps to understand the organization and helps to provide relevant elements for the establishment of diagnoses and the development of environmental forecasts. The objective of this study is to follow the evolution of the agricultural landscape in the department of Séguéla from 1988 to 2020 and to make a prediction for 2050, in order to manage the spaces reasonably. The methodology adopted is based on the one hand on the processing of satellite images for the analysis of land cover and on the other hand on predictive modeling (lCM model) by 2050. The results obtained show that the land use maps produced after processing the satellite images made it possible to highlight the dynamics of the agricultural landscape in this part of the Worodougou region. During the period 1988 to 2020, we witness an increase in the area of cultivated territory as well as a slight reduction in wooded savannas which are largely made up of perennial crops (cashew trees, cocoa trees, coffee trees, etc.). These two aforementioned classes have respective annual rates of change of 2.42% and −0.44%. A scenario modeling land cover changes in 2050 with an overall accuracy of 80.35% revealed a continued growth of crops and fallows to the detriment of natural forests and wooded savannas.

Mapping of the Sedimentary Facies of the Bottom of the Ouladine lagoon in Grand-Bassam (Ivory Coast_West Africa)

The Ouladine lagoon has an irregular bottom lined with different substrates. The lithological characteristics make it possible to observe sediments ranging from silts to sands and mixed sediments of variable color. These different fractions have varying proportions. The coarse fraction (>63 μm) has percentages ranging from 0 to 77% and the fine fraction ( μm) from 22.46 to 100% in the different sediments collected. The minority fraction of fine sands occupies the northern banks where the greatest depths of the section parallel to the coastal strip are observed. On the other hand, the sandy fractions occupy the southern shore up to the vicinity of the Azuretti mangrove island. This sandy fraction is also present on almost the entire section from the Comoé-Ebrié lagoon confluence to the closed mouth. The grain size characters of the sediments, such as the diagram of the classification coefficient So and the mean Mz, show well-classified sands. These sediments are deposited in a slightly agitated environment coming mainly from dunes and rivers. The sands of the estuarine complex were emplaced by saltation for most samples and by rotation.

Use of the Inverse Slope Method for the Characterization of Geometry of Basement Aquifers: Case of the Department of Bouna (Ivory Coast)

The inverse slope method (ISM) was used to interpret electric sounding data to determine the geoelectric parameters of the alteration zones (continuous media) and rocky environments (discontinuous environments) of the Bouna Department. Having both qualitative and quantitative interpretation, the inverse slope method (ISM) has the ability to determine the different geoelectric layers while characterizing their resistivities and true thicknesses. In the Bouna department, this method allowed us to count a maximum of four (4) geoelectric layers with a total thickness ranging from 12.99 m to 24.66 m. The alteration thicknesses calculated by the ISM in comparison with those measured in the boreholes showed a linear agreement of the coefficient of determination R2 = 0.8269 with the support of the Nash criterion which showed that this method gave thicknesses of alteration close to 76.76% of that obtained during the drillings.

Interest of Electrical logging in Implementation of Technical Equipment for Water Drilling: Case of the Abrobakro Collecting Field (South-East Ivory Coast)

This work concerns the collecting field of the Abrobakro site, the objective of which is to determine the thickness of the layers crossed during drilling from electrical logging in order to propose the equipment plan for the various boreholes. The electrical logging data sheets, particularly those on resistivity and expeditious granulometry using a 1.25 mm and 2 mm mesh sieve, were used. The layer thicknesses are determined with the inflection points on the graphs. The electrical logging shows that the sands in the study area have resistivity values between 400 and 5000 Ω.m. The decrease in resistivity observed at 50 m for all boreholes shows that the static level of the groundwater is at this depth. The results of the accelerated granulometry show that the first 20 meters contain more fine particles and coarse to very coarse sands from 20 m. The granulometry of the screen laying areas shows that the 1.5 mm slot openings are best suited for all drilling in the Abrobakro collecting field. The diameter d10 of the aquiferous sands of the collecting field is close to 1.25 mm.
