Characterization of a Multimodal and Multispectral Led Imager: Application to Organic Polymer’s Microspheres with diameter Φ = 10.2 μm

Multispectral microscopy enables information enhancement in the study of specimens because of the large spectral band used in this technique. A low cost multimode multispectral microscope using a camera and a set of quasi-monochromatic Light Emitting diodes (LEds) ranging from ultraviolet to near-infrared wavelengths as illumination sources was constructed. But the use of a large spectral band provided by non-monochromatic sources induces variation of focal plan of the imager due to chromatic aberration which rises up the diffraction effects and blurs the images causing shadow around them. It results in discrepancies between standard spectra and extracted spectra with microscope. So we need to calibrate that instrument to be a standard one. We proceed with two types of images comparison to choose the reference wavelength for image acquisition where diffraction effect is more reduced. At each wavelength chosen as a reference, one image is well contrasted. First, we compare the thirteen well contrasted images to identify that presenting more reduced shadow. In second time, we determine the mean of the shadow size over the images from each set. The correction of the discrepancies required measurements on filters using a standard spectrometer and the microscope in transmission mode and reflection mode. To evaluate the capacity of our device to transmit information in frequency domain, its modulation transfer function is evaluated. Multivariate analysis is used to test its capacity to recognize properties of well-known sample. The wavelength 700 nm was chosen to be the reference for the image acquisition, because at this wavelength the images are well contrasted. The measurement made on the filters suggested correction coefficients in transmission mode and reflection mode. The experimental instrument recognized the microsphere’s properties and led to the extraction of the standard transmittance and reflectance spectra. Acute Volvulus of a Wandering Spleen on Pregnancy: A Case Report

Wandering or ectopic spleen is a rare congenital or acquired abnormality due to a defect in the anatomical fixity of the spleen with the surrounding organs. Pedicle twisting is its most common complication. It is an anatomo-clinical entity most often described in children, but rare in adults. It is a serious condition, especially when it occurs on a pregnancy putting at stake maternal and fetal prognosis. Authors report a case of acute volvulus of wandering spleen in a 26-year-old patient admitted for abdominal pain on an active pregnancy of 15 weeks of amenorrhea. Abdominal ultrasound scan helped to set the diagnosis. At laparotomy, the enlarged spleen was in an ectopic position, in the iliac fossa with a pedicle abnormally twisted in several spiral turns. Splenectomy was performed. The post-operative period was simple and the pregnancy progressed well to term.

Mechanical Characteristics Test of Concrete Steel Bars Available in Côte d’Ivoire

Buildings collapse has now become a recurrent phenomenon in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out the reasons for these disasters, and check in particular to the extent, and concrete steel bars produced in Côte d’Ivoire and used in buildings’ structures are involved. Samples having 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm in diameter steel taken from the five (5) major manufacturers or suppliers of the Ivorian market were subjected to physical, chemical and mechanical tests to determine their performance. A comparison of these results with the NF EN 10080 and NF A35 080-1 standards made it possible to calculate the probability to have out-of-standard products in a structure. Pieces having 60 cm were cut from three bars of the same thickness and then subjected to tests. These are the chemical test by optical emission spectrometer, physical tests by caliper measurements of diameter, height of bolts and ribs and calculation of linear mass, and tensile tests with the help of hydraulic press. These tests made it possible to determine the characteristics of the steel bars. Then, these characteristics were compared with standards NF EN 10080 and NF A35 080-1, in order to judge their conformity for construction. Finally, the likelihood of having non-standard steel bars in a structure is calculated. These tests indicate that the relative surfaces of the bolts of the various bars HA6, HA8, HA10 and HA12 vary from 0.146 to 0.323 respectively;0.120 to 0.312;0.101 to 0, 297 and 0.142 to 0.482. Likewise, their calculated linear masses of these bars are respectively between 28.3 mm2 and 222 g/m;50.3 mm2 and 395 g/m;78.5 mm2 and 617 g/m;and 113 mm2 and 888 g/m. In addition, their yield strengths and elongations at break vary from 344 MPa to 582 MPa and from 0.2% to 15% respectively. According to analysis of these results, 100% of steel bars woul

SARs Investigation of α-, β-, γ-, δ-, ε-RuCl₂(Azpy)₂ Complexes as Antitumor drugs

Structure Activity-Relationships (SARs) of the five possible isomers of RuCl2(Azpy)2 were predicted thanks to dFT method. Azpy stands for 2-phenylazopyridine and the structure of the isomers α-RuCl2(Azpy)2, β-RuCl2(Azpy)2, γ-RuCl2(Azpy)2, δ-RuCl2(Azpy)2 and ε-RuCl2(Azpy)2 call respectively α-Cl, β-Cl, γ-Cl, δ-Cl and ε-Cl are defined according to chlorine atoms orientations. Hence, they are divided into two groups. In the first group comprising α-Cl, β-Cl and ε-Cl, both chlorine atoms are in cis position and Azpy ligands are intervertical. Whereas the two others isomers (γ-Cl and δ-Cl), they form the second group. Here, both chlorine are in trans position and Azpy are planar. The five synthesized isomers were investigated as potential antitumor agents. Then, regarding the dNA, its bases are stacked by pair. Therefore, complexes are assumed to insert and to stack on them through intercalative mode. So the electronic and geometric structures become more important to describe their SARs. Consequently, group 2 regarding γ-Cl and δ-Cl presents the best structure to allow intercalation between dNA base-pairs. Besides, the energy order of the lower unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the isomers is ELUMO(β-Cl) > ELUMO(α-Cl) > ELUMO(ε-Cl) > ELUMO(γ-Cl) > ELUMO(δ-Cl). The energy gap between LUMO and HOMO was also sorted as Δ(L-H)(β-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(α-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(ε-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(γ-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(δ-Cl). In addition, the total dipole moment was classified as μ(ε-Cl) > μ(β-Cl) > μ(α-Cl) > μ(γ-Cl) > μ(δ-Cl). Finally, net charge of the ligand Azpy was also classified as QL(δ-Cl) > QL(γ-Cl) > QL(ε-Cl) > QL(α-Cl) > QL(β-Cl). All those parameters show that δ-Cl isomer displays the highest activity as antitumor drug when intercalating between the dNA basepairs Cytosine-Guanine/Cytosine-Guanine (CG/CG).

Theoretical and Electrochemical Characterization of δ-RuCl₂(Nazpy)₂: Application to Oxidation of d-Glucose

The heterogenized δ-RuCl2(Nazpy)2 deposited on carbon toray (CT) was studied for the first time as electrochemical catalyst. Before, it was characterized by visible-ultraviolet spectra and theoretically by TddFT method at B3LYP/Lanl2dZ level. It displayed an MLCT t2geg → π* transition where t2geg due to the structure of Nazpy that considerably reduces energy between d AOs of Ru represents the HOMO of the complex and π* is identified as the LUMO. Electrochemistry study shows two redox ranges in both negative and positive sides of the potential. The positive side that corresponds to the couple RuIV/RuIII of catalyst appears to be active for oxidation of d-glucose in carbonate buffer with a high turnover. Therefore, Keto-2-gluconic and gluconic acids were the two main products obtained with respectively 80% and 17.6% of selectivity. Moreover, a small amount of tartaric and glycol acids coming from the c-c bond cleavage due to non-protection of the anomeric carbon of d-glucose were also observed.

Mineralization of Natural Spring Water in the City of daloa (West-Central Côte d’Ivoire)

The water from natural springs in the city of daloa is increasingly used by the population for its drinking water needs, even though its quality remains unknown. This study aims to determine the acquisition mechanism of the mineralization of these waters. Thus, physicochemical analyses were carried out on 10 spring water samples in February 2019. A summary statistical analysis of the results obtained shows that these waters are acidic (4.81 ≤ pH ≤ 5.39) and very weakly mineralised, with 50% of the conductivities below 100 μS·cm-1. The average iron (0.5 ± 1.02 mg/L) and manganese (0.61 ± 0.90 mg/L) contents show that these two parameters are increasing in the spring water. The Normalized Principal Component Analysis (NPCA) shows that mineralization is mainly controlled by surface inputs of elements (anthropogenic pollution), then the oxidation-reduction phenomenon and, finally, the water-rock contact (mineralization-residence time). Otherwise, the very low expression of water-rock contact (mineralization-residence time) in the acquisition of the mineralization reflects a short residence time of the water in the aquifer.

NBO Population Analysis and Electronic Calculation of Four Azopyridine Ruthenium Complexes by dFT Method

The molecular structure, the Natural Bond orbital (NBO) and the Time dependent-dFT of both isomers cis or γ-Cl and trans or δ-Cl of RuCl2(L)2, where L stands respectively for 2-phenylazopyridine (Azpy), 2,4-dimethyl-6-[phenylazo]pyridine (dazpy), 2-[(3,5-dimethylphenyl)azopyridine] (Mazpy) and 2-pyridylazonaphtol (Nazpy) were calculated with dFT method at B3LYP/LANL2dZ level. The prediction of the frontier orbitals (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital or HOMO and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital or LUMO) shows that the most active complexes suitable for electronic reactions are admitted to be the trans isomers. Moreover, δ-RuCl2 (Azpy)2 is discovered to react more actively as photo-sensitizer since its energy gap is the minimum. Besides, electronic structures of all complexes through NBO calculation indicate that Ru-N bonds are made of delocalization of occupancies from lone pair orbital of N atoms to the ruthenium. Moreover, Ru was assumed to have almost the same charge regardless the structure of the azopyridine ligands in the complex indicating that the ligands provide only a steric effect that is responsible for the ruthenium’s selectivity. Concerning the transition state, NBO analysis also highlights that the transition LP(Ru) π*(N1-N2) does correspond to t2g?π*(L). This transition is assumed to correspond to Metal to Ligand Charge Transfer (MLCT) that is responsible for the photo-sensitiveness of the metallic complex. Besides, TddFT calculation of complexes showed that δ-RuCl2(Nazpy)2 displays the largest band during the absorption. For that reason, it is admitted to be the best photosensitizer due to a large system of conjugation provided by Nazpy ligand.

Estimation of Methane Emission from Kossihouen Sanitary Landfill and Its Electricity Generation Potential (Côte d’Ivoire)

In order to solve the problem of the management of municipal solid waste in Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), a sanitary landfill has been designed in Kossihouen. despite the adverse greenhouse effects of the methane, this gas has a potential of electrical energy. The estimation of methane emissions from the waste can be an economic and useful way for more accurate control and management of waste disposal in Kossihouen. Therefore, conducting this study is essential. Methane emissions were estimated based on the methane generation constant K and the methane generation potential L0 using LandGEM 3.02. The results show that the quantity of methane emissions was 7.97E+07 m3/year. Based on this result, the methane content can generate 10% of total electricity consumed in Abidjan in 2026. This paper could serve as a source of scientific information for decision making on environmental sustainability in waste-to-energy projects in Cote d’Ivoire.

Use of a Multiple Regression Model in the Estimation of Water Borehole Flows in the Middle of Cracked Basement in Côte d’Ivoire

The objective of this study was to propose a mathematical regression model to estimate the exploitation flow rate of a water borehole from geophysical parameters in the midst of a fissured basement in the central-eastern part of C?te d’Ivoire. The data of the study are both hydrogeological and geophysical parameters from one hundred and eleven (111) data sheets of (111) water and geophysical boreholes. Two methods were used. The Normal Principal Component Analysis (NPCA) method applied to the data made it possible to select the explanatory variables (geophysical parameters) for borehole productivity. The multiple linear regression method subsequently made it possible to propose a mathematical model capable of estimating the exploitation rate from the geophysical parameters. The results indicate a very strong correlation (0.87) between longitudinal conductivity and flow rate, with flow rate and apparent resistivity negatively correlated. The multiple linear regression method highlighted two relevant explanatory variables, longitudinal conductivity and apparent resistivity. These two geophysical parameters contributed to a mathematical model in the form Q = C1X1 + C2X2 + ... + CnXn + C0. the real model obtained in this work is Q = 0.82Cl - 0.12*** + 2.5. The resulting model is efficient with a correlation of 86% in calibration and 95% in validation. A bias of 0.37 in calibration and 0.82 in validation is observed. Finally, the square root mean square error (RMSE) is 3.10 to 3.38 respectively in calibration and validation.
