Prediction of wall deposition behaviour in a pilot-scale spray dryer using deposition correlations for pipe flows

The particle deposition behaviour of skim milk, water and maltodextrin in the conical section of a pilot-scale spray dryer was predicted using simple correlations for particle depositions in pipes. The predicted particle deposition fluxes of these materials were then compared with the measured deposition fluxes. The predicted particle deposition regimes of the spray dryer were expected to be in the diffusional and mixed (diffusional and inertial) regimes, but the experimental results suggested that the particle deposition was mainly in the inertial regime. Therefore, using the pipe correlations for predicting deposition in a pilot-scale spray dryer suggests that they do not sufficiently represent the actual deposition behaviour. This outcome indicates that a further study of particle flow patterns needs to be carried out using numerical simulations (computational fluid dynamics, CFD) in view of the additional geometrical complexity of the spray dryer.

In order to clarify the influence of a diffuser on the charactersfics of a forward curved fan, the influence of the bare ratio and the outlet angle on the characteristics of the fan were measured through an experiment performed with an actual fan as well as through a numerical simulation, respectively. The mechanism of the discrete fre- quency noise generated by the separated flow of the diffuser was analyzed. The optimized bare ratio was ap- proximately 17%. The flow separated inside of the diffuser generated discrete frequency noise owing to the inter- action between the reversed flow from the diffuser and the impeller rotating at the blade passing frequency. The diffuser outlet angle influenced the pressure ratio more than that by the bare ratio. Furthermore, it was confirmed that restraining the separation in the diffuser effectively decreases the fan noise.

The energy efficiency enhancement of solar dryers has attracted the attention of researchers worldwide because of the need for energy storage in solar drying applications,which arises primarily from the irregular nature of solar energy that leads to improper drying which will reduce the quality of the products being *** work comprehensively reviews the state-of-the-art research carried out on solar dryers for energy efficiency enhancement using various alternative strategies,including hybrid solar dryers that use auxiliary heating sources,such as electric heaters or biomass heaters,solar-assisted heat pump dryer,use of desiccant materials,and heat storage systems that use both sensible and latent heat *** advent of phase change materials(PCM),such as thermally and chemically stable PCMs,for long-term storage,bio-degradable and bio-compatible PCM materials to alleviate the negative environmental impact of conventional PCMs is also *** performance parameters considered for evaluating dryers include the maximum temperature attained inside the drying chamber,drying time and efficiency,specific moisture extraction rate(SMER),energy and exergy efficiency and CO_(2) mitigation *** factors considered to analyze the PCMs application in solar dryers include cost and sustainability of PCMs,and both energy and exergy analyses of dryers using *** gaps in current knowledge and future scope for further improvement of solar dryers are also elucidated.

BACKGROUND:Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA) is a public health concern, and many studies have been conducted on return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC) and its prognostic *** thromboelastometry(ROTEM?), a point-of-care testing(POCT) method, has been useful for predicting ROSC in patients with OHCA, but very few studies have focused on patients with non-shockable rhythm. We examined whether the parameters of POCT could predict ROSC in patients with OHCA and accompanying non-shockable ***:This is a single-center, retrospective observational study. Complete blood count,blood gas, and ROTEM POCT measurements were used. This study included patients with nontraumatic OHCA aged 18 years or older who were transported to the emergency department and evaluated using POCT between January 2013 and December 2021. The patients were divided into the ROSC and non-ROSC groups. Prehospital information and POCT parameters were compared using receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis, and further logistic regression analysis was ***:Sixty-seven and 135 patients were in the ROSC and non-ROSC groups,respectively. The ROC curves showed a high area under the curve(AUC) for K^(+) of 0.77(95%confidence interval [CI]:0.71–0.83) and EXTEM amplitude 5 min after clotting time(A5) of 0.70(95%CI:0.62–0.77). The odds ratios for ROSC were as follows:female sex 3.67(95%CI:1.67–8.04);K^(+)0.64(95%CI:0.48–0.84);and EXTEM A5 1.03(95%CI:1.01–1.06).CONCLUSION:In OHCA patients with non-shockable rhythm, K^(+) level and the ROTEM parameter EXTEM A5 may be useful in predicting ROSC.

Current system focuses on design&construction of a multistage reciprocating evaporative cooling test *** packings that are used will undergo the reciprocating action,powered by the cam follower mechanism maintained at an actual rotation *** dry bulb temperature&humidity values are varied to replicate the varying climatic conditions,and the output parameters such as cooling load,evaporation rate(ER),humidification efficiency(HE),coefficient of performance(COP)are *** results showed that as inlet humidity raises,the performance of system *** the rise in the camshaft speed or packing velocity,there is an upsurge in the performance until a cam speed of 10 r/min or packing velocity of 0.083 m/s and with further increases in the value,overall performance *** system gave a maximum COP,ER,and HE equal to 3.80,73.87%,and 0.53 g/kg respectively.A rise in the inlet air temperature yielded a maximum change in dry bulb temperature of 8.2℃.Overall,results indicated that evaporative cooling is more effective in arid climates than the cold and humid *** quality test is performed to measure CO_(2),Total Volatile Organic Compound(TVOC),and Formaldehyde(HCHO),and it is found that humidified air entering the defined space is of excellent quality.

Consequent-pole permanent magnet synchronous machines(CP-PMSMs)have attracted considerable interest as a means of reducing manufacturing costs through a marked reduction in the volume of permanent magnet required to meet a particular torque *** this paper,novel rotor topologies for a CP-PMSM are derived to unlock the full design space *** ON/OFF method is introduced to manage the laminated steel material distribution over the rotor region,high average torque and low torque ripple are the objects of rotor design,and the immune algorithm is used to search for the optimal material distribution for the formulated *** than 9000 different rotor topologies are created and evaluated within 12 hours by this *** optimal topologies under different design strategy are presented,and performance of these topologies are *** analysis results show that the proposed methodology can deliver novel rotor topologies for the CP-PMSM with surprising torque quality since the torque ripple is suppressed to a low level with no average torque sacrifice.

To improve the surface properties,lining of magnesium alloys with hard powders by shot peening was carried out in order. The hard powders were tried to bond to the workpiece surface due to the collision of many *** order to fix the hard powders to the surface of the workpiece,the powders were set on an uneven *** easily facilitate fixing of powders,lining of the workpiece with the powder sandwiched between two aluminum foil sheets was also *** this experiment,a centrifugal shot peening machine with an electrical heater was *** workpieces were magnesium alloys AZ31B and AZ91D,and the hard powders were commercial cemented carbide,alumina,and *** joinability of hard powders near the lined surface was observed by a optical *** wear resistance was also evaluated by a wear *** hard powders were successfully bonded to the surface of workpieces by the shot lining *** results show that the present method is effective in wear resistance of the magnesium alloys.
