The SeqCode,formally called the Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes Described from Sequence Data,is a new code of nomenclature in which genome sequences are the nomenclatural types for the names of prokaryotic *** similar to the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes(ICNP)in structure and rules of priority,it does not require the deposition of type strains in international culture ***,it allows for the formation of permanent names for uncultured prokaryotes whose nearly complete genome sequences have been obtained directly from environmental DNA as well as other prokaryotes that cannot be deposited in culture *** the diversity of uncultured prokaryotes greatly exceeds that of readily culturable prokaryotes,the SeqCode is the only code suitable for naming the majority of prokaryotic *** start date of the SeqCode was January 1,2022,and the online Registry(https://***)was created to ensure valid publication of *** SeqCode recognizes all names validly published under the ICNP before *** that date,names validly published under the SeqCode compete with ICNP names for *** a result,species can have only one name,either from the SeqCode or ICNP,enabling effective communication and the creation of unified taxonomies of uncultured and cultured *** SeqCode is administered by the SeqCode Committee,which is comprised of the SeqCode Community and elected administrative *** with an interest in the systematics of prokaryotes is encouraged to join the SeqCode Community and participate in the development of this resource.

Sequence-discrete species for prokaryotes and other microbes:A historical perspective and pending issues

Whether prokaryotes,and other microorganisms,form distinct clusters that can be recognized as species remains an issue of paramount theoretical as well as practical consequence in identifying,regulating,and communicating about these *** the past decade,comparisons of thousands of genomes of isolates and hundreds of metagenomes have shown that prokaryotic diversity may be predominantly organized in such sequence-discrete clusters,albeit organisms of intermediate relatedness between the identified clusters are also frequently *** evidence suggests,however,that the latter“intermediate”organisms show enough ecological and/or functional distinctiveness to be considered different ***,the area of discontinuity between clusters often—but not always—appears to be around 85%–95%genome-average nucleotide identity,consistently among different *** recent studies have revealed remarkably similar diversity patterns for viruses and microbial eukaryotes as *** high consistency across taxa implies a specific mechanistic process that underlies the maintenance of the *** underlying mechanism may be a substantial reduction in the efficiency of homologous recombination,which mediates(successful)horizontal gene transfer,around 95%nucleotide *** from the 95%threshold(e.g.,species showing lower intraspecies diversity)may be caused by ecological differentiation that imposes barriers to otherwise frequent gene *** this hypothesis that clusters are driven by ecological differentiation coupled to recombination frequency(i.e.,higher recombination within *** groups)is appealing,the supporting evidence remains *** data needed to rigorously test the hypothesis toward advancing the species concept are also outlined.

Robotic Removal of a Hypogastric Splenic Cyst. A Case Report and Review of Literature

Background: Splenic cysts are infrequent findings in everyday medical practice. They are usually associated with nonspecific symptoms and the diagnosis is incidental. In most instances they are located in the left subcostal region, except for cases of huge sized cysts which can extend to the whole abdomen or pelvis. Aim: To present a case of a large hypogastric splenic cyst in a nulliparous woman, managed with robotic cystectomy. Review of the literature is included. Case: A 19-year-old woman, presented to the gynecologic department with a painless, palpable mass in the lower abdomen. Ultrasonography revealed a pelvic cystic mass, originally misdiagnosed for an ovarian cyst. Serum biomarkers and?β-hCG were negative. Definite diagnosis was made during explorative laparoscopy where the cyst was found to originate from the spleen. The surgery setup was changed from a lower to upper abdominal procedure. A robotically-assisted cystectomy was performed without concurrent splenectomy, and the splenic cavity was filled with an omental patch. There was no blood loss and the operation time was 163 minutes. Recovery was uneventful and there was no recurrence for a period of 16 months postoperatively. Conclusions: Pelvic splenic cysts are rare, and may be incidental findings during routine abdominal ultrasound scans. Modern minimally invasive approaches such as robotic surgery offer safe and efficient alternatives to standard techniques.

《世界反兴奋剂条例》(WADC)于2003年首次由世界反兴奋剂机构(WADA)通过并于2004年生效。在希腊,议会根据第3516/2006号法律通过联合国教科文组织《反对在体育运动中使用兴奋剂国际公约》,使这一版本WADC得以生效,并作为国际体育法在本国适用。经修订的2021年实施版WADC于2021年1月1日生效,通过第4791/2021号法律在希腊实施,并据该法成立了国家反兴奋剂组织。WADA禁用名单是第4791/2021号法律的组成部分,应在WADA发布3个月后根据第4791/2021号法律生效,无须国家反兴奋剂组织进一步行动。兴奋剂违规不会自动导致处罚。根据第4791/2021号法律第10条的规定,运动员可在无重大过失或疏忽的情况下,通过向最高体育纠纷解决委员会提起上诉,以及在某些特殊情况下向CAS提起上诉,以取消或缩短禁赛期。强调:国家反兴奋剂组织应为运动员提供一个国内争议解决框架,以促进独立性、效率和成本效益以及各级的一致性和程序公正。

Subcutaneous extension of a large diaphragmatic hydatid cyst

A 53-year-old male patient with a large hydatid cyst of the left hemidiaphragm and smaller secondary cysts located in the left thoracic cavity and upper left abdominal quadrant presented with two progressively enlarging lipoma-like masses in the left hypochondrium and under the left scapulae respectively. Total excision of all the cysts was performed through a bilateral subcostal incision, with the left hemidiaphragm near totally excised and replaced by a synthetic bilayer mesh.

Image-guided lens extraction surgery: a systematic review

A systematic review of the recent literature regarding the current image-guided systems used for cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange was performed based on the PubMed and Google Scholar databases in March 2018. Literature review returned 21 eligible studies. These studies compared image-guided systems with other keratometric devices regarding their accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility in measurement of keratometric values, astigmatism magnitude and axis, as well as in IOL power calculation. Additionally, the image-guided systems were compared with conventional manual ink-marking techniques for the alignment of toric IOLs. In conclusion, image-guided systems seem to be an accurate and reliable technology with measurements of high repeatability and reproducibility regarding the keratometry and IOL power calculation, but not yet interchangeable with the current established and validated keratometric devices. However, they are superior over the conventional manual inkmarking techniques for toric IOL alignment.

Modified deep sclerectomy combined with Ex-PRESS filtration device versus trabeculectomy for primary open angle glaucoma

AIM：To compare the efficacy of modified deep sclerectomy combined with Ex-PRESS shunt versus trabeculectomy in primary open angle glaucoma. METHODS：This is a prospective cohort comparative single-center study. Forty-nine eyes of 49 patients were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group A（22 patients） underwent classic trabeculectomy and group B（27 patients） underwent modified deep sclerectomy combined with insertion of Ex-PRESS model P50 drainage device. RESULTS：Mean age was 69±7y in group A and 64±8y in group B（P=0.03）. The mean reduction was 11.1±5.7 mm Hg in group A compared to 15.8±5.7 mm Hg in group B at 6mo（P=0.006）, and 9.8±4.9 mm Hg and 15.4±4.7 mm Hg respectively at 1y（P=0.0001）. Regarding the postoperative glaucoma medication, significant difference was observed between the two groups（in favour of group B） only at 6mo（P=0.017）. At the end of the follow-up period complete success rate in group A was 68.2% compared to 92.6% in group B（χ^2 test, P=0.07） and qualified success rate was 100% in both ***：Modified deep sclerectomy combined with Ex-PRESS shunt may provide comparable IOP reduction with fewer complications in management of primary open angle glaucoma.

Adequate near and intermediate visual capacity is important in performing everyday tasks,especially after the introduction of smartphones and computers in our professional and recreational *** objective of this study was to review all available reading tests both conventional and digital and explore their integrated characteristics.A systematic review of the recent literature regarding reading charts was performed based on the PubM ed,Google Scholar,and Springer databases between February and March *** from 11 descriptive and 24 comparative studies were included in the present systematic *** settings are still dominated by conventional printed reading charts;however,the most prevalent of them(i.e.,Jaeger type charts)are not *** reading capacity assessment is done only by those that comply with the International Council of Ophthalmology(ICO)*** reading tests are gaining popularity both in clinical and research settings and are differentiated in standard computer-based applications that require installation either in a computer or a tablet(e.g.,Advanced VISION Test and web-based ones e.g.,Democritus Digital Acuity Reading Test requires no installation).It is evident that validated digital tests will prevail in future clinical or research settings and it is upon ophthalmologists to select the one most compatible with their examination routine.

Managing injuries of hepatic duct confluence variants after major hepatobiliary surgery:An algorithmic approach

AIM:To investigate injuries of anatomy variants of hepatic duct confluence during hepatobiliary surgery and their impact on morbidity and mortality of these procedures. An algorithmic approach for the management of these injuries is proposed. METHODS:During a 6-year period 234 patients who had undergone major hepatobiliary surgery were retrospectively reviewed in order to study postoperative bile leakage. Diagnostic workup included endoscopic and magnetic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (E/MRCP), scintigraphy and fistulography. RESULTS:Thirty (12.8%) patients who developed postoperative bile leaks were identified. Endoscopic stenting and percutaneous drainage were successful in 23 patients with bile leaks from the liver cut surface. In the rest seven patients with injuries of hepatic duct confluence, biliary variations were recognized and a stepwise therapeutic approach was considered. Conservative management was successful only in 2 patients. Volume of the liver remnant and functional liver reserve as well as local sepsis were used as criteria for either resection of the corresponding liver segment or construction of a biliary-enteric anastomosis. Two deaths occurred in this group of patients with hepatic duct confluence variants (mortality rate 28.5%). CONCLUSION:Management of major biliary fistulaethat are disconnected from the mainstream of the biliary tree and related to injury of variants of the hepatic duct confluence is extremely challenging. These patients have a grave prognosis and an early surgical procedure has to be considered.
