One of the issues in the aluminum-alloy die casting industry is the space occurring inside the casting, and the improvement of the verification technology is expected. The purpose of this research is to seal holes inside the aluminum metal by resin and verify them by photon-counting X-ray computed tomography (CT) using an energy-discrimination 64-channel cadmium-telluride (CdTe) line detector. Moreover, it is important to estimate the image of the effective atomic number and the electronic density by the energy mapping of the attenuation coefficient utilizing photon-counting X-ray CTto distinguish both the aluminum metal and the resin filler in the aluminum hole. As a result, the energy discrimination of the resin filler in the space of aluminum casting has been attained. We could observe the atomic number image utilizing dual-energyX-ray CTmethod with the 64-channel CdTe photon-counting detector.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of lifestyle on sleep quality in young Japanese adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted on the web. We analyzed 637 eligible subjects (316 men and 321 women) aged 20 - 29 years. Information on diet and individual lifestyle characteristics, including sleep quality, which was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Japanese version (PSQI-J). Results were obtained by participants completing an online questionnaire. The participants were divided into two groups based on whether they were students (“student group”) or not (“not student group”). The participants with a PSQI-J global score of 6 or higher were evaluated as low-sleep-quality. Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate associations of lifestyle habits with low-sleep-quality. Logistic regression analyses were applied for “student group” and “not student group”. The results showed that days of eating out at dinner (OR: 1.11, CI: 1.00 - 1.22) and skipping dinner (OR: 1.21, CI: 1.05 - 1.42) were significant and independent predictors for low-sleep-quality among the “not student group”. There were no significant and independent predictors for low-sleep-quality among “student group”. Our results suggested that excessive intake by eating out and deficient intake by skipping dinner might lead to a high PSQI-J score. It is necessary for young people to receive education on the importance of cooking their own meals for traditional and daytime eating. The implication of this study lies in the fact that we have analyzed the effects of lifestyle habits on quality of sleep.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a dementing disorder and one of the major public health problems in countries with greater longevity. The cerebral cortical thickness and cerebral blood flow (CBF), which are considered as morphological and functional image features, respectively, could be decreased in specific cerebral regions of patients with dementia of Alzheimer type. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a computer-aided classification system for AD patients based on machine learning with the morphological and functional image features derived from a magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system. The cortical thicknesses in ten cerebral regions were derived as morphological features by using gradient vector trajectories in fuzzy membership images. Functional CBF maps were measured with an arterial spin labeling technique, and ten regional CBF values were obtained by registration between the CBF map and Talairach atlas using an affine transformation and a free form deformation. We applied two systems based on an arterial neural network (ANN) and a support vector machine (SVM), which were trained with 4 morphological and 6 functional image features, to 15 AD patients and 15 clinically normal (CN) subjects for classification of AD. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values for the two systems based on the ANN and SVM with both image?features were 0.901 and 0.915, respectively. The AUC values for the ANN-and SVM-based systems with the morphological features were 0.710 and 0.660, respectively, and those with the functional features were 0.878 and 0.903, respectively. Our preliminary results suggest that the proposed method may have potential for assisting radiologists in the differential diagnosis of AD patients by using morphological and functional image features.

Background:We retrospectively evaluated the postoperative renal function in patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy to compare the incidences of postoperative acute kidney injury(AKI)among the patients who had undergone robot-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP),retropubic radical prostatectomy(RRP),and extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomy(exLRP).Materials and methods:Patients with prostate cancer who had undergone radical prostatectomy at our institution between 2008 and 2014 were ***-assisted radical prostatectomy was performed using an intraperitoneal approach in a 25-degree Trendelenburg position,whereas other procedures were performed with the patient in the supine *** evaluated the serum creatinine levels and estimated glomerular filtration rates immediately after surgery and on postoperative day *** evaluated the incidence of AKI after prostatectomy using the Acute Kidney Injury Network criteria of the Kidney Disease:Improving Global Outcomes ***:A total of 150 consecutive patients were included,with each of the 3 groups(RARP,RRP,and exLRP)comprising 50 *** AKI was observed in 15(30.0%),1(2.0%),and 3(6.0%)patients in the RARP,RRP,and exLRP groups,*** 1 AKI was observed in all the patients except *** incidence of AKI in RARP group was significantly higher than that in the other groups(p<0.001).In the RARP group,the serum creatinine level was significantly elevated immediately after the surgery;however,it returned to baseline on postoperative day *** procedures were the only independent factor associated with AKI ***:This study suggest that compared with RRP and exLRP,RARP is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative AKI,although most patients recover ***-abdominal pneumoperitoneum may contribute to AKI onset.

Purpose: The genus Pseudomonas is a ubiquitous microorganism frequently detected from immunocompromised patients. The inherent resistance to numerous antimicrobial agents contributes to the opportunistic character of this pathogen exhaustive monitoring of this pathogen is considered of critical importance to public health organizations. The reliable identification method able to distinguish genetic close Pseudomonas species is needed, because these organisms are difficult to differentiate by phenotypic or biochemical methods. The purpose of the present study was to design species-specific primers in order to identify and detect four Pseudomonas species which are frequently detected from the human oral cavities, and to investigate the distribution of these organisms in the living environment using a multiplex PCR. Methods: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers were designed based on partial sequences of the rpoD gene of four Pseudomonas species. Swab samples were collected from fifty washstands, and the distribution of Pseudomonas species was investigated using a conventional PCR at genus level and a multiplex PCR at species level. Results: Multiplex PCR method developed in this study was able to distinguish four Pseudomonas species clearly. The genus Pseudomonas was detected from all samples (100%), whereas P. putida, P, aeruginosa, P. stutzeri and P. fluorescens were detected at 44%, 8%, 4% and 2% in fifty swab samples, respectively. Conclusion: Our developed one-step multiplex PCR method is accurate, specific, cost-effective, time-saving, and works without requiring DNA extraction. It was indicated that washstands were the uninhabitable environment for P. putida, P, aeruginosa, P. stutzeri and P. fluorescens.
