A study the with first principles calculation of the interfaces of the Ni layer or Cu layer on the Fe(100) surface formed with metal plating was *** or Cu atoms were shown to adopt the corresponding position to the bcc structure of the Fe(100) *** calculations showed that the interfaces of Ni(5 atomic layers)/Fe(100)(5 layers) or Cu(5 atomic layers)/Fe(100)(5 layers) had square *** orientation relationship of Ni/Fe(100) interface corresponds to fcc-Ni(100)//bcc-Fe(100),Ni[011]//Fe[010],and Ni[011]//Fe[001].Similar results were obtained for Cu/Fe(100) *** structure was supported by TEM analysis of plated Ni layer on Fe(100) *** adhesion strength of the Ni/Fe(100) interface evaluated by first principles calculation was higher than that of the Cu/Fe(100) *** experimental results of Hull cell iron plated with Ni or Cu supported the results of the *** results indicate that the first principles calculation,which deals with the ideal interface at the atomic scale,has the potential to evaluate the adhesion strength of metallic material interfaces.

The development of a Ni-based superalloy that consists of only theγ-solid-solution phase is highly desired for some applications such as high-temperature gas-cooled reactors in power *** this study,the temperature dependence of the plastic deformation behavior of Ni-22Cr-8W(at%)alloy was examined for the first time by using a single crystal,focusing on the influence of the short-range order(SRO),especially upon high-temperature deformation *** critical resolved shear stress(CRSS)for(111)[10¯1]slip exhibited a rapid decrease as the temperature increased at low temperatures but an almost constant value of∼45 MPa between 500 and 900℃.In addition,a slight yield stress anomaly(YSA)was observed,reaching a maximum value at 1000℃.To clarify the influence of the SRO on the YSA behavior,the mechanical properties of Ni-8W and Ni-5Re single crystals were also *** temperature dependence for the CRSS,including the occurrence of slight YSA,was observed for Ni-8W,in which SRO *** the Ni-5Re single crystal in which SRO did not significantly develop,however,the CRSS monotonically decreased as the temperature *** results suggest that the presence of SRO in a Ni-Cr-W alloy contributes to the strengthening of the alloy not only at low temperatures but also at high temperatures up to∼1000℃.The results strongly suggested that the pseudo-PLC effect is related to the origin of YSA appearing in Ni-basedγ-solid-solution alloys at high temperatures.

We review the historical fact of multipartite Bell inequalities with an arbitrary number of settings. An explicit local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a two-setting Bell experiment （two-setting model）, works only for the specific set of settings in the given experiment, but cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a continuous-infinite settings Bell experiment （infinite-setting model）, even though there exist two-setting models for all directions in space. Hence, the two-setting model does not have the property that the infinite-setting model has. Here, we show that an explicit two-setting model cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in an M-setting Bell experiment （M-setting model）, even though there exist two-setting models for the M measurement directions chosen in the given M-setting experiment. Hence, the two-setting model does not have the property that the M-setting model has.

For the development of high-strength Mg alloys,active use of Laves phases such as C14-type Mg_(2)Yb and Mg_(2)Ca is strongly ***,the brittleness of the Laves phases is the biggest obstacle to *** first found that kink-band formation can be induced in directionally solidified Mg/Mg_(2)Yb and Mg/Mg_(2)Ca eutectic lamellar alloys when a stress is applied parallel to the lamellar interface,leading to a high yield stress accompanied with *** is,microstructural control can induce a new deformation mode that is not activated in the constituent phases,thereby inducing *** was clarified that the geometric relationship between the operative slip plane in the constituent phases and the lamellar interface,and the microstructural features that provide kink-band nucleation sites are important factors for controlling kink-band *** obtained results show a possibility to open the new door for the development of novel high-strength structural material using the kink bands.

This article reviews the pathogenic mechanism of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID)-induced gastric damage,focusing on the relation between cyclooxygenase(COX) inhibition and various functional ***,such as indomethacin,at a dose that inhibits prostaglandin(PG) production,enhance gastric motility,resulting in an increase in mucosal permeability,neutrophil infiltration and oxyradical production,and eventually producing gastric *** lesions are prevented by pretreatment with PGE 2 and antisecretory drugs,and also via an atropine-sensitive mechanism,not related to antisecretory *** neither rofecoxib(a selective COX-2 inhibitor) nor SC-560(a selective COX-1 inhibitor) alone damages the stomach,the combined administration of these drugs provokes gastric ***-560,but not rofecoxib,decreases prostaglandin E 2(PGE 2) production and causes gastric hypermotility and an increase in mucosal ***-2 mRNA is expressed in the stomach after administration of indomethacin and SC-560 but not *** up-regulation of indomethacin-induced COX-2 expression is prevented by atropine at a dose that inhibits gastric *** addition,selective COX-2 inhibitors have deleterious influences on the stomach when COX-2 is overexpressed under various conditions,including adrenalectomy,arthritis,and Helicobacter *** summary,gastric hypermotility plays a primary role in the pathogenesis of NSAID-induced gastric damage,and the response,causally related with PG deficiency due to COX-1 inhibition,occurs prior to other pathogenic events such as increased mucosal permeability;and the ulcerogenic properties of NSAIDs require the inhibition of both COX-1 and COX-2,the inhibition of COX-1 upregulates COX-2 expression in association with gastric hypermotility,and PGs produced by COX-2 counteract the deleterious effect of COX-1 inhibition.

Leaves,crucial for plant physiology,exhibit various morphological traits that meet diverse functional *** leaf morphology quantification,largely 2-dimensional(2D),has not fully captured the 3-dimensional(3D)aspects of leaf *** improvements in 3D data acquisition,accurately depicting leaf morphologies,particularly at the edges,is *** study proposes a method for 3D leaf edge reconstruction,combining 2D image segmentation with curve-based 3D *** deep-learning-based instance segmentation for 2D edge detection,structure from motion for estimation of camera positions and orientations,leaf correspondence identification for matching leaves among images,and curve-based 3D reconstruction for estimating 3D curve fragments,the method assembles 3D curve fragments into a leaf edge model through B-spline curve *** method's performances were evaluated on both virtual and actual leaves,and the results indicated that small leaves and high camera noise pose greater challenges to *** developed guidelines for setting a reliability threshold for curve fragments,considering factors occlusion,leaf size,the number of images,and camera error;the number of images had a lesser impact on this threshold compared to *** method was effective for lobed leaves and leaves with fewer than 4 ***,challenges still existed when dealing with morphologies exhibiting highly local variations,such as *** nondestructive approach to 3D leaf edge reconstruction marks an advancement in the quantitative analysis of plant *** is a promising way to capture whole-plant architecture by combining 2D and 3D phenotyping approaches adapted to the target anatomical structures.

The catecholamine,dopamine,plays an important role in the central nervous system of mammals,including executive functions,motor control,motivation,arousal,reinforcement,and *** of the dopaminergic system lead to diseases of the brains,such as Parkinson’s disease,Tourette’s syndrome,and *** addition to its fundamental role as a neurotransmitter,there is evidence for a role as a growth differentiation factor during *** studies suggest that dopamine regulates the development ofγ-aminobutyric acidergic interneurons of the cerebral ***,in adult brains,dopamine increases the production of new neurons in the hippocampus,suggesting the promoting effect of dopamine on proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells and progenitor cells in the adult *** this mini-review,I center my attention on dopaminergic functions in the cortical interneurons during development and further discuss cell therapy against neurodegenerative diseases.

Shock Wave Observation in Narrow Tubes for a Parametric Study on Micro Wave Rotor Design

Wave rotor is expected to improve the performance of micro gas turbines drastically. In the wave rotor design, the rotor speed is determined principally by the tube length. Therefore, a longer tube is preferable for miniaturized wave rotors to avoid the difficulty in bearings and lubrication system, while it may yield thicker wall boundary layer, shock wave dissipation and so on. In the present study, an experimental apparatus was built to visualize the wave rotor internal flow dynamics in a narrow tube by schlieren method and Laser Doppler Anemometry. In addi- tion, different lengths of the tube were adopted and compared to investigate the effect of wall friction. Finally, 2D numerical simulation was performed and the results were compared with those of experiments.

A simple method was presented to produce a micro-droplet of sulphuric acid on a pre-selected micro-zone on a pure iron surface with the tip of an AFM cantilever. The three-dimensional shape of the droplet was imaged with the AC non-contact mode of the AFM, and the liquid/solid interface was observed in situ during corrosion using the contact mode. The substrate surface beneath the droplet was lowered by approximately 19 nm after 3.6 ks of adhesion. This method has important implications for experimental studies of micro-zone corrosion or lubrication.

Computationally Efficient Large-Eddy Simulation of Periodic Unsteady Flow using Harmonic Balance Method

To improve the efficiency and fidelity of the numerical analysis for cascade flutter, we propose an efficient scale-resolving simulation method dedicated to time-periodic flows by incorporating the harmonic balance approach into the large-eddy simulation. This method combined convergence calculations of the steady-state problem based on the harmonic balance method for periodic components, and the nonlinear time-marching method for turbulent fluctuations. Using the proposed method, deterministic periodic components and stochastic turbulent fluctuations were calculated simultaneously, and the effect of turbulent fluctuations on deterministic periodic components was directly calculated without using turbulence models. In this paper, we explain the algorithm and feature of this simulation technique and present the results of the computation for channel flow excited in the streamwise direction as an analysis example using the proposed method. In order to validate the proposed method, an analysis of sinusoidally pulsating channel flow at the central friction-velocity Reynolds numbers Rer = 180 was conducted, confirming that the amplitude and phase of the mean velocity oscillation computed by the proposed method were in good agreement with those of the conventional LES. The present calculation achieved an order of magnitude improvement in computational efficiency compared to conventional LES.
