Viral hepatitis represents a major danger to public health,and is a globally leading cause of *** five liver-specific viruses:Hepatitis A virus,hepatitis B virus,hepatitis C virus,hepatitis D virus,and hepatitis E virus,each have their own unique epidemiology,structural biology,transmission,endemic patterns,risk of liver complications,and response to antiviral *** remain few options for treatment,in spite of the increasing prevalence of viral-hepatitiscaused liver ***,chronic viral hepatitis is a leading worldwide cause of both liver-related morbidity and mortality,even though effective treatments are available that could reduce or prevent most patients’*** 2016,the World Health Organization released its plan to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by the year 2030,along with a discussion of current gaps and prospects for both regional and global eradication of viral ***,treatment is sufficiently able to prevent the disease from reaching advanced ***,future therapies must be extremely safe,and should ideally limit the period of treatment necessary.A better understanding of pathogenesis will prove beneficial in the development of potential treatment strategies targeting infections by viral *** review aims to summarize the current state of knowledge on each type of viral hepatitis,together with major innovations.

Role of sirtuins in esophageal cancer:Current status and future prospects

Esophageal cancer(EC)is a malignant cancer that still has a poor prognosis,although its prognosis has been improving with the development of multidisciplinary treatment modalities such as surgery,chemotherapy and ***,identifying specific molecular markers that can be served as biomarkers for the prognosis and treatment response of EC is highly desirable to aid in the personalization and improvement of the precision of medical *** are a family of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD+)-dependent proteins consisting of seven members(SIRT1-7).These proteins have been reported to be involved in the regulation of a variety of biological functions including apoptosis,metabolism,stress response,senescence,differentiation and cell cycle *** the variety of functions of sirtuins,they are speculated to be associated in some manner with cancer ***,while the role of sirtuins in cancer progression has been investigated over the past few years,their precise role remains difficult to characterize,as they have both cancer-promoting and cancer-suppressing properties,depending on the type of *** conflicting characteristics make research into the nature of sirtuins all the more ***,the role of sirtuins in EC remains unclear due to the limited number of reports concerning sirtuins in *** herein review the current findings and future prospects of sirtuins in EC.

Stochastic model predictive braking control for heavy-duty commercial vehicles during uncertain brake pressure and road profile conditions

When heavy-duty commercial vehicles(HDCVs)must engage in emergency braking,uncertain conditions such as the brake pressure and road profile variations will inevitably affect braking *** minimize these uncertainties,we propose a combined longitudinal and lateral controller method based on stochastic model predictive control(SMPC)that is achieved via Chebyshev–Cantelli *** our method,SMPC calculates braking control inputs based on a finite time prediction that is achieved by solving stochastic programming elements,including chance *** accomplish this,SMPC explicitly describes the probabilistic uncertainties to be used when designing a robust control *** main contribution of this paper is the proposal of a braking control formulation that is robust against probabilistic friction circle uncertainty *** specifically,the use of Chebyshev–Cantelli inequality suppresses road profile influences,which have characteristics that are different from the Gaussian distribution,thereby improving both braking robustness and control performance against statistical ***,since the Kalman filtering(KF)algorithm is used to obtain the expectation and covariance used for calculating deterministic transformed chance constraints,the SMPC is reformulated as a KF embedded deterministic ***,the effectiveness of our proposed method is verified via a MATLAB/Simulink and TruckSim co-simulation.

Objectives:This study aimed to clarify the significance of therapeutic timing on the effectiveness of nivolumab for treating metastatic renal cell *** and methods:Fifty-eight patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with nivolumab monotherapy were retrospectively *** who were treated with nivolumab as second-line therapy were included in the second-line group,while the others were included in the later-line *** clinicopathological characteristics,effects of nivolumab,and prognoses of these groups were ***:Twenty and thirty-eight patients were included in the second-line and later-line groups,*** were no significant differences in the distribution of International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consotium risk and other clinicopathological characteristics between the 2 *** proportion of patients whose objective best response was progressive disease in the second-line group was significantly lower than that in the later-line group(15%vs.50%,p=0.0090).The 50%progression-free survival with nivolumab in the second-line group was significantly better than that in the later-line group(not reached and 5 months,p=0.0018).Multivariate analysis showed that the second-line setting was an independent predictive factor for better progression-free survival(p=0.0028,hazard ratio=0.108).The 50%overall survival after starting nivolumab in the second-line and later-line groups was not reached and 27.8 months,respectively(p=0.2652).Conclusions:The therapeutic efficacy of nivolumab as second-line therapy is expected to be better than that of later therapy.

An Activity Recognition System at Home Based on CO₂ Sensors

Activity recognition of indoor occupants using indirect sensing with less privacy violation is one of the hot research topics. This paper proposes a CO2 sensor-based indoor occupant activity monitoring system. Using the IoT sensor node that contains CO2 sensors, the measured CO2 concentrations in three locations (laboratory, office, and bedroom) were stored in a cloud server for up to 35 days starting July 1, 2023. The CO2 measurements stored at 30-second intervals were statistically processed to produce a heat-mapped display of the hourly average or maximum CO2 concentration. From the heatmap visualizations of CO2 concentration, the proposed system estimated meeting, heating water using a portable stove, and sleep for the occupants’ activity recognition.

Surface Characteristics and Indentation Deformation of Porous Anodic TiO_2 Layer Before and After Hot Water Treatment

Hot water treatment was performed to modify the surface of porous TiO2 layer prepared by anodic spark oxidation technique for better *** oxide layer without water treatment exhibited a porous surface with few nanometer features and consisted of poorly crystallized *** water treatment,the poorly crystallized oxides were transformed into crystalline anatase gradually and numerous nanoparticles formed on the oxide surface,leading to increased surface roughness at the *** indentation deformation behaviors of oxide layer before and after water treatment were investigated and *** show that under the indentation load,the untreated anodic TiO2 layer exhibited good adhesion to the *** contrast,after water treatment,apparent oxides pile-up and spallation were observed around the indentation,indicating decreased adhesion strength.

A comprehensive overview of recent developments on the mechanisms and pathways of ferroptosis in cancer: the potential implications for therapeutic strategies in ovarian cancer

Cancer cells adapt to environmental changes and alter their metabolic pathways to promote survival and proliferation. Metabolic reprogramming not only allows tumor cells to maintain a reduction-oxidation balance by rewiring resources for survival, but also causes nutrient addiction or metabolic vulnerability. Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death characterized by the iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides. Excess iron in ovarian cancer amplifies free oxidative radicals and drives the Fenton reaction, thereby inducing ferroptosis. However, ovarian cancer is characterized by ferroptosis resistance. Therefore, the induction of ferroptosis is an exciting new targeted therapy for ovarian cancer. In this review, potential metabolic pathways targeting ferroptosis were summarized to promote anticancer effects, and current knowledge and future perspectives on ferroptosis for ovarian cancer therapy were discussed. Two therapeutic strategies were highlighted in this review: directly inducing the ferroptosis pathway and targeting metabolic vulnerabilities that affect ferroptosis. The overexpression of SLC7A11, a cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11 (also known as xCT), is involved in the suppression of ferroptosis. xCT inhibition by ferroptosis inducers (e.g., erastin) can promote cell death when carbon as an energy source of glucose, glutamine, or fatty acids is abundant. On the contrary, xCT regulation has been reported to be highly dependent on the metabolic vulnerability. Drugs that target intrinsic metabolic vulnerabilities (e.g., GLUT1 inhibitors, PDK4 inhibitors, or glutaminase inhibitors) predispose cancer cells to death, which is triggered by decreased nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate generation or increased reactive oxygen species accumulation. Therefore, therapeutic approaches that either directly inhibit the xCT pathway or target metabolic vulnerabilities may be effective in overcoming ferroptosis resistance. Efficient Task Decomposition for Sequential Crowdsourced Task Solving

In order to facilitate crowdsourcing-based task solving, complex tasks are decomposed into smaller subtasks that can be executed by individual *** task into sequential subtasks attracts a plenty of empirical explorations. The absence of formal studies makes it difficult to provide task requesters with explicit guidelines on task decomposition *** formally present the vertical task decomposition model by specifying the positive quality dependencies among sequential subtasks. Our focus is on addressing solutions of low quality intentionally provided by selfinterested workers who are paid equally or based on their contributions. By combining the theoretical analysis on workers’ strategic behaviors and experimental exploration on the efficiency of task decomposition, our study demonstrates the relationship between the incentive and the worker’s performance, and gives the explicit instructions on vertical task decomposition, which show promise on improving the quality of the final outcome.
