Emission of THz radiation from air breakdown at focused ultra-short fs-laser pulses(800 nm/35 fs)was investigated for the 3D spatio-temporal control where two pre-pulses are used before the *** laser pulse induced air breakdown forms a~120μm-long focal volume generate shockwaves which deliver a denser air into the focal region of the main pulse for enhanced generation of THz radiation at 0.1-2.5 THz spectral *** intensity of 162 pre-and main-pulses was at the tunnelling ionisation intensities(1-3)×10 W/cm and corresponded to sub-critical(transparent)plasma formation in *** analysis of THz radiation revealed that orientation of the air density gradients generated by pre-pulses and their time-position locations defined the ellipticity of the generated THz electrical *** rotational component of electric current is the origin of THz radiation.

Aszonapyrone A Isolated from Neosartorya spinosa IFM 47025 Inhibits the NF-κB Signaling Pathway Activated by Expression of the Ependymoma-Causing Fusion Protein ZFTA-RELA

Ependymoma is a rare and chemotherapy-resistant brain tumor, which has resulted in a delay in the development of drugs to treat it. A subclass of supratentorial ependymomas (ST-EPN), designated ST-EPN-zinc finger-translocation-associated (ZFTA, ST-EPN-ZFTA), exhibits the expression of a fusion protein comprising ZFTA and v-rel reticuloendotheliosis viral oncogene homolog A (RELA), an effector transcription factor of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway (ZFTA-RELA). The expression of ZFTA-RELA results in the hyperactivation of the oncogenic NF-κB signaling pathway, which ultimately leads to the development of ST-EPN-ZFTA. To identify inhibitors of the NF-κB signaling pathway activated by the expression of ZFTA-RELA, we used a doxycycline-inducible ZFTA-RELA-expressing NF-κB reporter cell line and found that extracts of the fungus Neosartorya spinosa IFM 47025 exhibited NF-κB inhibitory activity. We identified eight compounds [aszonapyrone A (2), sartorypyrone A (3), epiheveadride (4), acetylaszonalenin (5), (R)-benzodiazepinedione (6), aszonalenin (7), sartorypyrone E (8) and (Z, Z)-N,N’-(1,2-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)methylene]-1,2-ethanediyl)bis-formamide (9)] from N. spinosa IFM 47025 culture extract using a variety of chromatographic techniques. The structures of these compounds were identified through the analysis of various instrumental data (1D, 2D-NMR, MS, and optical rotation). The NF-κB responsive reporter assay indicated that compounds 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9 exhibited inhibitory activity. We further evaluated the inhibitory activity of these compounds against the expression of endogenous NF-κB responsive genes (CCND1, L1CAM, ICAM1, and TNF) and found that compound 2 showed significant inhibitory activity. Further studies are required to elucidate the mechanism of action of compound 2, which may serve as a lead compound for the development of a novel therapy for ST-EPN-ZFTA.

Effect of short-range order on the high-temperature plastic deformation behavior of Ni-Cr-W,Ni-W,and Ni-Re single crystals

The development of a Ni-based superalloy that consists of only theγ-solid-solution phase is highly desired for some applications such as high-temperature gas-cooled reactors in power *** this study,the temperature dependence of the plastic deformation behavior of Ni-22Cr-8W(at%)alloy was examined for the first time by using a single crystal,focusing on the influence of the short-range order(SRO),especially upon high-temperature deformation *** critical resolved shear stress(CRSS)for(111)[10¯1]slip exhibited a rapid decrease as the temperature increased at low temperatures but an almost constant value of∼45 MPa between 500 and 900℃.In addition,a slight yield stress anomaly(YSA)was observed,reaching a maximum value at 1000℃.To clarify the influence of the SRO on the YSA behavior,the mechanical properties of Ni-8W and Ni-5Re single crystals were also *** temperature dependence for the CRSS,including the occurrence of slight YSA,was observed for Ni-8W,in which SRO *** the Ni-5Re single crystal in which SRO did not significantly develop,however,the CRSS monotonically decreased as the temperature *** results suggest that the presence of SRO in a Ni-Cr-W alloy contributes to the strengthening of the alloy not only at low temperatures but also at high temperatures up to∼1000℃.The results strongly suggested that the pseudo-PLC effect is related to the origin of YSA appearing in Ni-basedγ-solid-solution alloys at high temperatures.

Bell Operator Method to Classify Local Realistic Theories

We review the historical fact of multipartite Bell inequalities with an arbitrary number of settings. An explicit local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a two-setting Bell experiment （two-setting model）, works only for the specific set of settings in the given experiment, but cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a continuous-infinite settings Bell experiment （infinite-setting model）, even though there exist two-setting models for all directions in space. Hence, the two-setting model does not have the property that the infinite-setting model has. Here, we show that an explicit two-setting model cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in an M-setting Bell experiment （M-setting model）, even though there exist two-setting models for the M measurement directions chosen in the given M-setting experiment. Hence, the two-setting model does not have the property that the M-setting model has.

BACKGROUND Postoperative aortobronchial fistula(ABF)is a rare complication that can occur in 0.3%-5.0%of patients over an extended period of time after thoracic aortic *** visualization of the fistula via imaging is *** To investigate the relationship between computed tomography(CT)findings and the clinical signs/symptoms of ABF after thoracic aortic *** Six patients(mean age 71 years,including 4 men and 2 women)with suspected ABF on CT(air around the graft)at our hospital were included in this retrospective study between January 2004 and September *** CT findings included direct confirmation of ABF,peri-graft fluid,ring enhancement,dirty fat sign,atelectasis,pulmonary hemorrhage,and bronchodilation,and the clinical course were retrospectively *** proportion of each type of CT finding was *** ABF detection after surgery was found to have a mean and median of 14 and 13 years,*** signs and symptoms were asymptomatic in 4 patients,bloody sputum was found in 1 patient,and fever was present in 1 *** complications of ABF included graft infection in 2 patients and graft infection with hemoptysis in 2 *** the 6 patients,3 survived,2 died,and 1 was lost to *** locations of the ABFs were as follows:1 in the ascending aorta;1 in the aortic arch;2 in the aortic arch leading to the descending aorta;and 2 in the descending *** were directly confirmed by CT in 4/6(67%)***-graft dirty fat(4/6,67%)and peri-graft ring enhancement(3/6,50%)were associated with graft infection,endoleaks and pseudoaneurysms were associated with hemoptysis(2/6,33%).CONCLUSION Asymptomatic ABF after thoracic aortic surgery can be confirmed on chest *** is useful for the diagnosis of ABF and its complications.

Pathogenesis of NSAID-induced gastric damage:Importance of cyclooxygenase inhibition and gastric hypermotility

This article reviews the pathogenic mechanism of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID)-induced gastric damage,focusing on the relation between cyclooxygenase(COX) inhibition and various functional ***,such as indomethacin,at a dose that inhibits prostaglandin(PG) production,enhance gastric motility,resulting in an increase in mucosal permeability,neutrophil infiltration and oxyradical production,and eventually producing gastric *** lesions are prevented by pretreatment with PGE 2 and antisecretory drugs,and also via an atropine-sensitive mechanism,not related to antisecretory *** neither rofecoxib(a selective COX-2 inhibitor) nor SC-560(a selective COX-1 inhibitor) alone damages the stomach,the combined administration of these drugs provokes gastric ***-560,but not rofecoxib,decreases prostaglandin E 2(PGE 2) production and causes gastric hypermotility and an increase in mucosal ***-2 mRNA is expressed in the stomach after administration of indomethacin and SC-560 but not *** up-regulation of indomethacin-induced COX-2 expression is prevented by atropine at a dose that inhibits gastric *** addition,selective COX-2 inhibitors have deleterious influences on the stomach when COX-2 is overexpressed under various conditions,including adrenalectomy,arthritis,and Helicobacter *** summary,gastric hypermotility plays a primary role in the pathogenesis of NSAID-induced gastric damage,and the response,causally related with PG deficiency due to COX-1 inhibition,occurs prior to other pathogenic events such as increased mucosal permeability;and the ulcerogenic properties of NSAIDs require the inhibition of both COX-1 and COX-2,the inhibition of COX-1 upregulates COX-2 expression in association with gastric hypermotility,and PGs produced by COX-2 counteract the deleterious effect of COX-1 inhibition.
