Background: Plastic pollution is the accumulation of waste composed of plastic and its derivatives all over the environment. Whether in the form of visible garbage or microparticles, as it slowly degrades, plastic pollution poses significant threats to terrestrial and aquatic habitats and the wildlife that call them home, whether through ingestion, entanglement or exposure to the chemicals contained in the material. Unfortunately, there is a lack of documentation on the impact of plastic waste on human health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Methods: We searched five electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Global Health, CInAHL and Web of Science) and gray literature, following the preferred reporting elements for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA), for the impact of plastic waste on human health in developing countries. We included quantitative and qualitative studies written in English and French. We assessed the quality of the included articles using the Mixed Methods Appraisal tool (MMAT). Results: A total of 3779 articles were initially identified by searching electronic databases. After eliminating duplicates, 3167 articles were reviewed based on title and abstract, and 26 were selected for full-text review. Only three articles were retained. The three articles dealt with practices likely to lead to oral exposure to plastic chemicals in human health, as well as the level of awareness of participants concerning the possible impact of plastic on human health, namely, the use of plastic baby bottles, the use of microwaves to cook food and reheat precooked food, the use of plastic bottles to store water in the refrigerator, water purifier containers with plastic bodies and plastic lunch boxes, the reuse of plastic bags and the inadequacy of treatment facilities. Conclusion: Plastic waste poses different risks to human health at every stage of its life cycle. Hence, strategies must be adopted to raise public awareness of the dangers of plastic

In this article, a novel scalarization technique, called the improved objective-constraint approach, is introduced to find efficient solutions of a given multiobjective programming problem. The presented scalarized problem extends the objective-constraint problem. It is demonstrated that how adding variables to the scalarized problem, can lead to find conditions for (weakly, properly) Pareto optimal solutions. Applying the obtained necessary and sufficient conditions, two algorithms for generating the Pareto front approximation of bi-objective and three-objective programming problems are designed. These algorithms are easy to implement and can achieve an even approximation of (weakly, properly) Pareto optimal solutions. These algorithms can be generalized for optimization problems with more than three criterion functions, too. The effectiveness and capability of the algorithms are demonstrated in test problems.

Proximity to corridors benefits bird communities in vegetated interrow vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina

Epidemiology and Prognosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) in the Internal Medicine Department of the Bouake University Hospital (Côte d’Ivoire)

Background and Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a public health problem due to its high incidence and high mortality rate. The epidemiology and prognosis of this disease is poorly documented in Bouake. The aim of the study was to describe the epidemiological aspects and identify the predictors of death in patients hospitalized for HCC in the Internal Medicine Department of the Bouake University Hospital in order to improve patient management. Material and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022 in the Internal Medicine Department of Bouake University Hospital, involving 160 patients. Results: The prevalence of HCC was 3.6%, the mean age was 48.86 ± 14.5 years with extremes of 14 and 90 years and the sex ratio was 2.90. Viral hepatitis B was observed in 81% of patients, with HBs Ag positivity in 71.2%. The performance status of WHO was ≥ 2 in 93.2% of cases. HCC was discovered at advanced stage respectively in 51% for BCLC C and 47.8% for BCLC D stage. The nodules were multiple (89.3%), and superior to 3 cm. The hospital mortality was 20% and BCLC D stage of HCC was significantly associated with death (p = 0.04) in the univariate analysis. The BCLC D stage of HCC was significantly associated with death. Length of stay inferior to 5 days (OR = 0.77;CI 95: 0.61 - 0.96) and hepatic encephalopathy (OR = 1.39;CI 95: 1.10 - 1.77), were the two independent predictors of mortality. Conclusion: HCC mainly affected young men infected with chronic viral hepatitis B. Short length of stay and hepatic encephalopathy were independent predictors of mortality.

Respiratory Distress in neonates at the Teaching Hospitals of Lomé, Togo

Introduction: Respiratory distress in neonates is a neonatal emergency that can lead to serious complications if not treated appropriately. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology, the diagnostic, and the outcomes of neonatal respiratory distress. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the pediatric wards of Lomé Teaching Hospitals (CHU Sylvanus Olympio and CHU Campus), including neonates treated for respiratory distress (dyspnea associated with the use of accessory muscles of respiration, noisy breathing and with or without cyanosis) from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021. Data were entered using Epi Data 3.1 and SPSS software version 12.0. Results: The total number of neonates hospitalized for respiratory distress was 353, with a frequency of 12.5% and a sex ratio of 1.5. The mean age was 0.82 ± 3.20 days;the 0 - 6-day age group accounted for 92.4% of cases. neonates had been resuscitated at birth in 46.7% of cases. Dyspnea was tachypnea in 94% of cases and bradypnea in 6%. Dyspnea was associated with cyanosis in 21.5% of cases. The severity of the respiratory distress was moderate in 64.9% of cases. Perinatal asphyxia (49.1%), inhalation pneumonitis (17.1%) and neonatal bacterial infection (14.1%) were the main etiologies. The mortality rate was 20.4%. Age greater than or equal to seven days, no neonatal resuscitation were protective factors against death. Prematurity, no antenatal consultations follow up, neonatal resuscitation, severe respiratory distress were risk factors of death. Conclusion: neonatal respiratory distress was common in the early neonatal period and its mortality was high.

Hematological Malignancies in Sickle Cell Disease Patients: Report of Four Cases in Togo and Literature Review

Background: Hemopathies were rarely observed in major sickle cell disease patients some thirty years ago, probably due to the high mortality rate among the latter as a result of progressive complications. Thanks to advances in the management of sickle cell disease, patients' life expectancy has increased considerably, exposing them more frequently to neoplasia, including hematological malignancies. The increased risk of leukemogenesis is multifactorial and linked to the pathophysiological mechanisms of the clinical manifestations of sickle cell disease. Study Setting: The clinical haematology department of campus teaching hospital and the paediatric onco-haematology unit of Sylvanus Olympio teaching hospital in Lomé were used as study settings. Observations: Four hematologic malignancies were collected in a cohort of 5847 major sickle cell syndromes. The median age of the patients was 31.25 years (extremes: 14 and 58 years) and they were predominantly female (sex ratio M/F = 0.25). Two were on background therapy with hydroxyurea. Among the four patients, there were two cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia, including ALL3 in a 58-year-old SS woman and T-ALL2 in a 12-year-old SC. Then, a case of lymphocytic lymphoma in a 20-year-old SS man was reported and finally a case of chronic myelocytic leukemia in a 33-year-old woman of Sβ+ thalassaemia phenotype. Conclusion: To further report this coexistence, it is therefore essential to systematically consider hematological malignancies during major sickle cell syndromes even if there are similarities in the symptomatology of these two serious pathological situations.

Unsupervised intrusion detection system for in-vehicle communication networks

In-vehicle communication has been optimized day to day to keep updated of the *** area network(CAn)is used as a standard communication method because of its efficient and reliable ***,CAn is prone to several network level attacks because of its lack in security *** methods have been introduced to incorporate this in *** proposed an unsupervised method of intrusion detection for in-vehicle communication networks by combining the optimal feature extracting ability of autoencoders and more precise clustering using fuzzy C-means(FCM).The proposed method is light weight and requires less computation *** performed an extensive experiment and achieved an accuracy of 75.51%with the ML35o in-vehicle intrusion *** experimental result,the proposed method also works better for other intrusion detection problems like wireless intrusion detection datasets such as WnS-DS with accuracy of 84.05%and network intrusion detection datasets such as KDDCup with accuracy 60.63%,UnSW_nB15 with accuracy 73.62%and Information Security Center of Excellence(Iscx)with accuracy 74.83%.Overall,the proposed method outperforms the existing methods and avoids labeled datasets when training an in-vehicle intrusion detection *** results of the experiment of our proposed method performed on various intru-sion detection datasets indicate that the proposed approach is generalized and robust in detecting intrusions and can be effectively deployed in real time to monitor CAn traffic in vehicles and proactively alert during attacks.
