The North American design community typically regards green roofs as inhospitable environments for native plants due to the infrastructure’s characteristic thin soils,low organic matter,temperature fluctuations,and wind ***,green roofs are often planted with an industry-standard palette of non-native sedum and Phedimus species that are adept at withstanding stress,but lack biodiversity and visual interest,and offer little food or shelter to native birds and *** specific reference plant communities that thrive in similarly harsh growing conditions can positively influence green roof design throughout North America,and consequently provide ecosystem services,contribute to habitat conservation,and increase human exposure to the beauty and benefits of native plants.

The plasticity index is an essential design parameter used as a standard input in fine-grained soil investigation *** is used to estimate the plasticity and physical properties of soils,and indirectly their strength *** index is determined from the Atterberg limit tests,starting from the limits of liquidity and ***,the realization of the test considered as basic and simple,is not so *** effects of the operator,the calibration of the apparatus and the environmental aspects during the tests affect the reliability and accuracy of the *** this paper,the objective is to overcome these difficulties by evaluating the plasticity index of clay and loam soils by considering only the values of the liquid *** samples were collected from 0 to 5 m depth in the localities of the Khôdepression in *** these samples,Atterberg limit tests were performed in the *** MATLAB’s Curve Fitting Toolbox,linear,exponential and power prediction models were *** results showed that there is indeed a good correlation between the plasticity index and the liquid limit of the *** the linear model,it was observed R2 equal to *** the exponential model,R2 is 0.98871 and for the power model 0.9802.A study of the residual plot validated the models found,as well as comparisons with well-known literature *** the equations obtained,it is now possible to study the plasticity of soils in the Khôdepression only from the liquid limit,without determining the plasticity limit.

Introduction: While exposure to environmental peanut during infancy appears to promote sensitization by the epicutaneous route, early and frequent peanut ingestion during infancy may prevent peanut allergy through oral tolerance. Due to parental occupation, the offspring of peanut farmers are likely exposed to peanut protein in their environment, but they may also have early introduction into their diet due to ready access. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of peanut allergy in offspring of peanut farmers. Methods: A survey was mailed by the National Peanut Board to peanut farmers in the United states collecting information on peanut consumption, peanut reactions, physician-confirmed peanut allergy (PA), epinephrine auto-injector prescription and history of other allergies in offspring. Egg allergy (EA) served as a comparator to peanut allergy. Results: Of 10,349 households surveyed, 1050 responses were received (2493 offspring, participation rate 10%). The self-reported prevalence of peanut allergy in the general population in the UsA is 0.9%, 1.3%, and 0.7% for children 0 - 5 years, 6 - 10 years, and 11 - 17 years, respectively. In offspring of peanut farmers, PA vs EA was reported in 3.69% (10/271) vs 2.6% (7/271), 2.8% (14/493) vs 2.0% (10/493), and 1.48% (37/2493) vs 1.4% (35/2493) of offspring ≤10 years, offspring ≤15 years and all offspring, respectively. Physician-confirmed PA was reported in 3.3% (9/271), 2.6% (13/493), and 1.24% (31/2493) in the three groups, respectively. Physician-confirmed PA with epinephrine auto-injector prescription was reported in1.8% (5/271), 1.8% (9/493), and 0.68% (17/2493) in the three groups, respectively. Conclusions: We found that the self-reported prevalence of peanut allergy in offspring of peanut farmers was similar to that reported in the general population. This is a unique population that may provide insight into factors that influence development of peanut allergy.

The nation’s nursing shortage is predicted to worsen, as nurses retire (supply) and more patients have access to care with the full enactment of the Affordable Care Act (demand). schools of nursing are under continuing pressure to increase enrollment in entry level nursing programs [1-4]. Nurse educators have been engaged in a variety of creative and innovative projects to increase enrollment with some success. A primary reason for the lack of educational capacity is the shortage of nursing faculty [3-7]. The University of Texas Health science Center-Houston school of Nursing undertook an innovative project to alleviate the nursing faculty shortage at that school. Working with a retired physician group, physician volunteers were solicited to teach in the laboratory portion of an undergraduate health assessment course. Twenty-two physicians volunteered in the first year in a class that involved forty baccalaureate students in their first-semester. The objectives of the project were twofold: First, to determine the suitability of retired physicians to serve as teachers of baccalaureate nursing students and second, ascertain possible monetary savings by using these physicians. Both of these goals were realized. The students valued the physicians’ enthusiasm, wisdom and experience and the cohort of physicians equaled the equivalent of four nursing faculty members. With an average annual faculty salary of $100,000, savings were significant.

We compared the collection techniques of fecal specimens for DNA extraction and fecal microbiome analysis by utilizing the glove from a standard-of-care digital rectal exam (DRE) and the rectal swab from a pre-prostate biopsy bacterial rectal culture collected in clinical care settings. DNA yield from the swab technique compared to the glove technique yielded similar amounts of DNA (18.1 vs. 13.1 ng/μL, p = 0.06), slightly favoring the swab technique. However, utilizing DNA yield cutoffs of 15 ng/μL (37% vs. 29%, p = 0.18) and 30 ng/μL (15% and 9%, p = 0.16), we identified no differences in yield between the swab versus glove technique, respectively. Absorbance values for overall DNA quality were significantly different in favor of the glove technique (mean 1.6 vs. 2.0, p sing an absorbance value of 1.5 as an indication of DNA quality, only 26% (19/91) met the cutoff value using the swab group compared to 47.3% (53/112) if the glove technique was used (p similar results occurred for the RNA quality with an absorbance value cutoff of 2.0 (2.2% vs. 30.4%, p se sampling feasibility and improve population sampling, gloves used from a DRE may be utilized as a consistent and efficient fecal DNA collection technique for fecal microbiome analysis. DNA yield and quality from the glove technique are comparable to—if not better than—rectal swab collection.

strong>Background:strong> This paper aims to determine if the combination of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and next-generation sequencing (NGs) could identify bacteria in culture-negative urine that would alter prophylaxis management. strong>Methods:strong> We sent approximately 5 - 10 mL of a preoperative urine sample to MicrogenDx for PCR/NGs analysis performed after surgery (blind to the surgeon). The physician prescribed standard of care antibiotic prophylaxis. Cases modeling the hospital course of 3 random patients were reviewed by eight urologists after surgery to determine if NGs results would change their prophylaxis regimen. An infectious disease pharmacist reviewed the cases and provided the “ideal” regimen. strong>Results:strong> Urine cultures identified bacteria in 11% (2/18) of cases. Culture speciation results were consistent with NGs results. NGs detected a dominant bacteria in 56% (10/18) of negative cultures and targetable bacteria in all samples. There was a 15% (3/20) infection rate. In both cases, NGs results suggest inadequate prophylaxis. In response to the case scenarios, 100%, 88%, and 88% of the urologists reported they would change prophylaxis with NGs results. During a case scenario, physicians would tend to overprescribe antibiotics given PCR/NGs data for prophylaxis selection. strong>Conclusion:strong> NGs identifies a targetable bacterium in up to 80% of negative urine cultures before urologic stone surgery. Responses to case scenarios indicate that physicians would change management based on NGs results. Inter-professional (urologic and pharmacy) antibiotic selection with PCR/16s DNA testing may be helpful to improve antibiotic stewardship.

shorea robusta Gaertn. f.（sal）is one of the important tim-ber-yielding plants in India, which dominates the vegetation of Terai landscape of Uttar Pradesh state in India forming various communities based on its associations. The present study deals with delineation, map-ping and characterization of various communities of sal （shorea robusta） forests in Terai landscape of Uttar Pradesh, India ranging across over 16 districts. Field survey and visual interpretation based forest vegetation type classification and mapping was carried out as part of the project entitled ‘Biodiversity characterization at landscape level using remote sensing and GIs’. Indian Remote sensing-P6 （Resourcesat-1） Linear Imaging self scanner-III satellite data was used during the study. The total area covered by different sal forests was found to be approximately 2256.77 km2. sal communities were identified and characterized based on their spectral properties, physiognomy and phytosociological charac-teristics. Following nine sal communities were identified, delineated and mapped with reasonable accuracyviz.,Chandar,Damar, dry plains, moist plains, western alluvium, western alluvium plains, mixed moist deciduous, mixed dry deciduous andsiwalik. It is evident from the area estimates that mixed moist deciduous sal is the most dominant commu-nity in the region covering around （1613.90 km2）, other major communi-ties were found as western alluvium plains sal （362.44 km2）, mixed dry deciduous sal （362.44 km2） and dry plains sal （107.71 km2）. The Terai landscape of Uttar Pradesh faces tremendous anthropogenic pressure leading to deterioration of the forests. Community level information could be used monitoring the status as well as for micro level conserva-tion and planning of the sal forests in Terai Landscape of Uttar Pradesh.
