The present study investigated the efficiency of Aspergillus sydowii strain bpol(GenBank Accession Number:MK373021)in the removal of anthracene(100 mg/L).Optimal degradation efficiency(98.7%)was observed at neutral ph,temperature(30℃),biomass weight(2 g)and salinity(0.2%w/v)within 72 *** enzyme analyses revealed 131%,107%,and 89%induction in laccase,lignin peroxidase,and manganese peroxidase respectively during anthracene ***,the degradation efficiency(99.8%)and enzyme induction were significantly enhanced with the addition of 100 mg/L of citric acid and glucose to the *** varying anthracene concentrations(100-500 mg/L),the degradation rate constants(K1)peaked with increasing concentration of anthracene while the half-life(t1/2)decreases with increase in anthracene *** of fit(R2=0.976 and 0.982)was observed when the experimental data were subjected to Langmuir and Temkin models respectively which affirmed the monolayer and heterogeneous nature exhibited by *** cells during *** distinct metabolites;anthracene-1,8,9(2h,8ah,9ah)-trione,2,4adihydronaphthalene-1,5-dione,l,3,3a,7a-tetrahydro-2-benzofuran-4,7-dione and 2-hydroxybenzoic acid was obtained through Gas Chromatography-Mass spectrometry(GC-MS).*** exhibited promising potentials in the removal of PAhs.

Shoot and root traits in drought tolerant maize(Zea mays L.) hybrids

This study aimed to investigate the differences in shoot and root traits, and water use and water use efficiency（WUE） in drought tolerant（DT） maize（Zea mays L.） hybrids under full and deficit irrigated conditions. A two-year greenhouse study was conducted with four hybrids（one conventional hybrid, 33D53AM, two commercial DT hybrids, P1151 AM, N75h, and an experimental hybrid, Exp hB） grown under two water regimes（I（100） and I（50）, referring to 100 and 50% of evapotranspiration requirements）. Under water stress, the hybids P1151 AM, N75, and Exp hB showed more drought tolerance and had either greater shoot dry weight or less dry weight reduction than the conventional hybrid（33 D53 AM）. however, these three hybrids responded to water stress using different mechanisms. Compared with the conventional hybrid, the two commercial DT hybrids（P1151 AM and N75h） had a smaller leaf area, shoot dry weight, and root system per plant. As a result, these hybrids used less water but had a higher WUE compared with the conventional hybrid. In contrast, the experimental hybrid（ExphB） produced more shoot biomass by silking stage at both irrigation levels than all other hybrids, but it had relatively lower WUE. The hybrids demonstrated different drought response mechanisms that may require different irrigation management strategies. More investigation and validation are needed under field conditions and in different soil types.

Ceruloplasmin levels in human sera from various diseases and their correlation with patient’s age and gender

Ceruloplasmin (Cp), a copper metalloprotein in human serum has been a valuable diagnostic marker in Wilson’s disease where Cp levels tend to be low while high levels in serum were asso-ciated with myocardial infarction, neoplastic and inflammatory conditions. There is no stan-dardized reference method for Cp and current immunologic and bichromatic assays have a number of drawbacks. The method described here uses immunoaffinity chromatography to remove six of the most abundant proteins from a serum sample and high-pressure liquid chro- matography (hPLC) with a size-exclusion col-umn to separate Cp from other serum proteins and any free Cu prior to analysis of 63Cu and 65Cu by inductively-coupled plasma mass spec-trometry (ICPMS). Identification of Cp is based on retention time match of the unknown protein in the serum sample with the Cp external stan-dard and the presence of 63Cu and 65Cu at a ratio of 2.2 ± 0.1. The method accuracy, as estab-lished independently by two of the authors with a reference serum certified for Cp, is 98 to 101% and the coefficient of variation is 6.4% and 5.4%, respectively. The assay was used to analyze a total of 167 human sera for Cp from patients with myocardial infarction (MI), pulmonary em-bolism (PE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), other forms of ar-thritis, and a set of healthy patients as normal controls (NC). Our data show that Cp concen-trations tend to be higher in MI, RA, and SLE patients, higher in female as compared to male patients, and we did not observe a correlation between Cp concentration and patient’s age for the set of 70 patients for which we had gender and age information.

The genetic link between apple red flesh(RF)coloration and the internal flesh browning disorder(FBD)is a major challenge when breeding high fruit quality RF apple cultivars.A genome-wide association study(GWAS)was conducted in a population of about 900 red-leaved seedlings to identify genomic regions and putative candidate genes using whole genome sequencing of the pools of extreme phenotypes(XP)for the RF colour coverage(using the weighted cortex index(WCI))and *** study identified novel genomic regions contributing to WCI and FBD variation in the red-leaved *** FBD-associated regions were enriched for genes regulating senescence,heat shock proteins,cytochrome P450,ascorbate metabolism and pectin methyl *** there were no significant regions in common for WCI and FBD,there were several genes(***85,MYB66,ethylene insensitive 3,DNAJ heat shock protein,WRKY7,and NAC42)enriched commonly between the genomic regions associated with these traits,potentially underpinning the genetic connection between WCI and *** of the differentially expressed genes between the R6:MdMYB10 and white-fleshed‘control’apples resided within the GWAS hotspot for WCI(*** synthase,UDP-Glycosyl transferase)and FBD(*** GTPase activating protein,lipoxygenase 1,phytoene synthase)–validating the XP-GWAS *** of several genes resided in the trait-associated genomic regions,suggesting that whole genome duplication plays an important role in the regulation of these *** genetic correlations between WCI and sensory traits were observed,and strategies to develop FBD-free high fruit quality RF cultivars are discussed.
