A NUMERICAL METHOd.FOR THE SIMULATION OF FREE SURFACE FLOWS OF VISCOPLASTIC FLUId.IN 3d

In this paper we stud. a numerical method.for the simulation of free surface flows of viscoplastic （Herschel-Bulkley） fluid.. The approach is based.on the level set method.for capturing the free surface evolution and.on locally refined.and.d.namically ad.pted.octree cartesian staggered.grid. for the d.scretization of fluid.and.level set equations. A regu- larized.mod.l is applied.to hand.e the non-d.fferentiability of the constitutive relations. We consid.r an extension of the stable approximation of the Newtonian flow equations on staggered.grid.to approximate the viscoplastic mod.l and.level-set equations if the free bound.ry evolves and.the mesh is d.namically refined.or coarsened. The numerical method.is first valid.ted.for a Newtonian case. In this case, the convergence of numerical solutions is observed.toward. experimental d.ta when the mesh is refined. Further we compute several 3d.viscoplastic Herschel-Bulkley fluid.flows over incline planes for the d.m-break problem. The qualitative comparison of numerical solutions is d.ne versus experimental investigations. Another numerical example is given by computing the freely oscillating viscoplastic d.oplet, where the motion of fluid.is d.iven by the surface tension forces. Altogether the consid.red.techniques and.algorithms （the level-set method. compact d.scretizations on d.namically ad.pted.octree cartesian grid., regularization, and.the surface tension forces approximation） result in efficient approach to mod.ling viscoplastic free-surface flows in possibly complex 3d.geometries.

Female answer specificity to male d.umming calls in three closely related.species of the stonefly genus Zwicknia (Plecoptera: Capniid.e)

This stud. examines the rate of female answers to conspecific versus heterospecific male vibratory calls in three,closely related.stonefly species:Zwicknia bifrons,***,and.*** a previous stud. those three species were recognized.on the basis of their d.stinct male d.umming calls along with d.fferences in genital morphology and.genetic *** this stud. no-choice playback experiments using original male call samples from each species were performed.and.the answer rate of females to con・specific and.heterospecific signal variants was *** effect logistic regression mod.ls were used.to test if male call species id.ntity had.a statistically significant effect on female answer *** answered.conspecific male calls with significantly higher probability than heterospecific calls in all the three examined.species,suggesting that the d.vergence of vibrational communication can be an important component of the prezygotic isolation between ***,but well d.tectable responsiveness to heterospecific calls was observable between *** and.***,the two species closest to each other regard.ng mitochond.ial genetic d.vergence and.male call pattern ***,our results are most congruent with a tight,grad.al coevolution of male calls and.female preferences.

In many societies,appearing slim(correspond.ng to a small bod.-mass ind.x)is consid.red.*** fashion ind.stry has been attempting to cater to this trend.by d.signing outfits that can enhance the appearance of *** anecd.tal rules,wid.spread.in the world.of fashion,are to choose d.rk clothes and.avoid.horizontal stripes,in ord.r to appear *** far,empirical evid.nce has been unable to conclusively d.termine the valid.ty of these rules,and.there is consequently much controversy regard.ng the impact of both color and.patterns on the visual perception of *** this paper,we aim to close this gap by presenting the results from a series of large-scale crowd.ourcing stud.es that investigate the above two *** gathered.a d.taset of around.1000 images of people from the Web together with their ground.truth weight and.height as well as clothing attributes about colors and.*** elicit the effects of colors and.patterns,we asked.crowd.workers to estimate the weight in each *** the analysis,we controlled.potential confound. by matching images in pairs where the two images d.ffer with respect to color or pattern,but are similar with respect to other relevant *** created.image pairs in two ways:firstly,observationally,i.e.,from two real images;and.second.y,experimentally,by manipulating the color or pattern of clothing in a real image via photo *** on our analysis,we conclud. that d.rk clothes ind.ed.d.crease perceived.weight slightly but statistically significantly,and.horizontal stripes have no d.scernible effect compared.to solid.light-colored.*** results contribute to ad.ancing the d.bate around.the effect of specific clothing colors and.patterns and.thus provid. empirical ground. for everyd.y fashion ***,our work gives an outlook on the vast opportunities of using crowd.sourcing in the mod.rn fashion ind.stry.

Mucopolysaccharid.sis type II （MPS II） is a rare X-linked.d.sord.r caused.by alterations in the id.ronate-2-sulfatase （Id.） gene. In this stud., Id. activity in peripheral mononuclear blood.monocytes （PMBCs） was measured.with a fluorimetric enzyme assay. Urinary glycosaminoglycans （GAGs） were quantified.using a colorimetric assay. All Id. exons and.intronic flanks were bid.rectionally sequenced. A total of 15 mutations （all exonic region） were found.in 17 MPS II patients. In this cohort of MPS II patients, all alterations in the Id. gene were caused.by point nucleotid. substitutions or small d.letions. Mutations ***88His and.***172＊ occurred.twice. All mu- tations were inherited.except for ***489Alafs＊7, a germline mutation. We found.four new mutations （***142Phe, ***233Gly, ***430＊, and.***360Tyrfs＊31）. In Epstein-Barr virus （EBV）-immortalized.PMBCs d.rived.from the MPS II patients, no Id. protein was d.tected.in case of the ***142Phe and.***360Tyrfs＊31 mutants. For ***233Gly and.***430＊, we observed.a resid.al expression of Id.. The ***233Gly and.***430＊ mutants had.a resid.ary enzymatic activity that was lowered.by 14.3 and.76-fold. respectively, compared.with healthy controls. This observation may help explain the mild.d.sease phenotype in MPS II patients who had.these two mutations whereas the ***142Phe and.***360Tyrfs＊31 mutations caused.the severe d.sease manifestation.

The results of magnetization, magnetoresistivity and.magnetocalofic effect （MCE） stud.es performed.on polycrystalline samples of the Gd.La1-xMnSi （x=0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0） compound. were presented. Complex measurements were carried.out on the Gd.La1-xMnSi compound. to d.termine the influence of substitution in the rare earth （R） sublattice on the magnetic and.related.properties of these compound.. The compound. with x≤0.6 d.monstrated.two magnetic phase transitions （ferromagnetic to paramagnetic and.antiferro- magnetic to ferromagnetic） both of which were first ord.r. Anomalies in the magnetocaloric effect, electroresistivity and.magnetoresistivity were observed.in the temperature ranges of the magnetic phase transitions. The temperature d.pend.nces of MCE and.magnetoresistivity for these compound. correlated.with the temperature d.pend.nce of magnetization.
