The stabilization and manipulation of laser frequency by means of an external cavity are nearly ubiquitously used in fundamental research and laser applications. While most of the laser light transmits through the cavity, in the presence of some back-scattered light from the cavity to the laser, the self-injection locking effect can take place, which locks the laser emission frequency to the cavity mode of similar frequency. The self-injection locking leads to dramatic reduction of laser linewidth and noise. Using this approach, a common semiconductor laser locked to an ultrahigh-Q microresonator can obtain sub-Hertz linewidth, on par with state-of-the-art fiber lasers. Therefore it paves the way to manufacture high-performance semiconductor lasers with reduced footprint and cost. Moreover, with high laser power, the optical nonlinearity of the microresonator drastically changes the laser dynamics, offering routes for simultaneous pulse and frequency comb generation in the same microresonator. Particularly, integrated photonics technology, enabling components fabricated via semiconductor CMOS process, has brought increasing and extending interest to laser manufacturing using this method. In this article, we present a comprehensive tutorial on analytical and numerical methods of laser self-injection locking, as well a review of most recent theoretical and experimental achievements.

A glycine–nitrate self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)was developed to produce composite MgO-gd_(2)O_(3) *** X-ray powder diffraction(XRD)analysis confirmed the SHS-product consists of cubic MgO and gd_(2)O_(3) phases with nanometer crystallite size and retains this structure after annealing at temperatures up to 1200℃.Near full dense high IR-transparent composite ceramics were fabricated by spark plasma sintering(SPS)at 1140℃and 60 *** in-line transmittance of 1 mm thick MgO-gd_(2)O_(3) ceramics exceeded 70%in the range of 4–5 mm and reached a maximum of 77%at a wavelength of 5.3 *** measured microhardness HV0.5 of the MgO-gd2O3 ceramics is 9.5±0.4 gPa,while the fracture toughness(KIC)amounted to 2.0±0.5МPa·m1/*** characteristics demonstrate that obtained composite MgO-gd_(2)O_(3) ceramic is a promising material for protective infra-red(IR)windows.

PBB efficiency evaluation via Colored Petri Net Models

Basic components of Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB) network models were constructed: PBB interior switch, PBB edge switch—with the dynamic filling up of address tables. The modeling of PBB networks was implemented. The results of simulation reveal definite imperfections of PBB technology caused by the broad-casting and sensitivity to the ageing time of the address tables’ records, which complicates the guaranteeing of a given QoS. The preliminary comparison confirms definite advantages of e6 addressing before PBB.

Automated Recovery of the 2012 Sumatera Aftershock Sequence Using Waveform Cross Correlation

We assess the performance of waveform cross correlation as applied to automatic and interactive processing of the aftershock sequence of the April 11, 2012 Sumatera Ms(IDC) = 8.2 earthquake. The XSeL (cross correlation standard event list) is compared to the ReB (Reviewed event Bulletin) issued by the IDC (International Data Centre). The latter includes 1,181 aftershocks between April 11 and May 25. To automatically recover the sequence, sixteen aftershocks were selected from the IDC SeL3 (Standard event List) available on April 13 and used as master events. Waveform templates from only seven IMS (International Monitoring System) array stations with the largest SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) for the main shock were used to calculate cross correlation coefficients. Approximately 620,000 arrivals were detected and then used to build events according to the IDC definition. After conflict resolution between event hypotheses with similar arrivals found by more than one master, all survived hypotheses populated the XSeL. The total number of distinct hypotheses was 4,924, with 2,763 hypotheses not matched by the ReB, i. e. potentially new ReB events. To evaluate the quality of the XSeL, we randomly selected a representative portion (~15%) from 2,763 hypotheses and reviewed them interactively according to standard IDC rules and guidelines. There were 119 new ReB events built and 145 XSeL hypotheses rejected. Several frequency and probability density distributions have been constructed for all detections, the associated detections, the XSeL detections, the detections in the new ReB, and rejected events.
