Comparison of visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score in evaluation of post septoplasty patients

Objective:To compare and correlate the efficacy of the NOSE score&the VAS score in determining the symptomatic benefit in patients undergoing *** and methods:Eighty patients with deviated nasal septum undergoing septoplasty were included in the *** score&VAS score(out of 100)was documented before and after *** were correlated and compared ***:In the NOSE score,the most bothersome symptom was trouble breathing through the nose(85.83);followed by Nasal obstruction or blockage(82.50).Wilcoxon test showed significant improvement with NOSE score and VAS score in all patients at 1 month and 3 ***’s coefficient showed a positive correlation between the two,though the score improvement and patient satisfaction rate was significantly high with NOSE ***:NOSE score and the VAS score both provide effective framework for evaluating treatment responses after ***,the NOSE score showed higher improvement and better patient satisfaction rate when used to measure of nasal obstruction as compared to the VAS score.

Evaluation and significance of Eustachian tube angles and pretympanic diameter in HRCT temporal bone of patients with chronic otitis media

Objective:To evaluate the significance of Eustachian tube(ET)angles and ET pretympanic diameter on high resolution computed tomography(HRCT)Temporal bone in patients with chronic otitis media(COM).Methods:A retrospective study was carried out at Tertiary care *** A included 92 ears with COM(38 patients with bilateral COM and 16 with unilateral COM);and Group B included 108 normal ears(54 patients with bilateral normal ears).Reid plane-ET angle,Tubotympanic angle and the ET pretympanic diameter was evaluated by HRCT temporal bone,and compared in the two *** with chronic otitis media(Group A)were subdivided into Group A1(Blocked ET)and Group A2(Patent ET).The parameters were evaluated and compared in the subgroups ***:The mean Reid plane-ET angle and Tubotympanic angle in Group A was 25.412.57 and 148.123.43 respectively;whereas in Group B it was 27.563.62 and 145.144.34 *** plane-ET angle was significantly less in patients with COM and Tubotympanic angle was significantly more obtuse in COM *** pretympanic diameter was(5.372.10)mm in Group A and(6.472.40)mm in Group *** was significantly less in patients with COM.A significant correlation was found between the ET patency and the two ET parameters(Reid plane-ET angle and pretympanic diameter).Conclusions:Eustachian tube angles in adults may play a significant role in the etiology of chronic otitis *** in Reid plane-ET angle and pretympanic diameter on HRCT temporal bone can be used to predict ET dysfunction and to plan the surgical management of chronic otitis media.

Enhanced 3D Point Cloud Reconstruction for Light Field Microscopy Using U-Net-Based Convolutional Neural Networks

This article describes a novel approach for enhancing the three-dimensional(3D)point cloud reconstruction for light field microscopy(LFM)using U-net architecture-based fully convolutional neural network(CNN).Since the directional view of the LFM is limited,noise and artifacts make it difficult to reconstruct the exact shape of 3D point *** existing methods suffer from these problems due to the self-occlusion of the *** manuscript proposes a deep fusion learning(DL)method that combines a 3D CNN with a U-Net-based model as a feature *** sub-aperture images obtained from the light field microscopy are aligned to form a light field data cube for preprocessing.A multi-stream 3D CNNs and U-net architecture are applied to obtain the depth feature fromthe directional sub-aperture LF data *** the enhancement of the depthmap,dual iteration-based weighted median filtering(WMF)is used to reduce surface noise and enhance the accuracy of the *** a 3D point cloud involves combining two key elements:the enhanced depth map and the central view of the light field *** proposed method is validated using synthesized Heidelberg Collaboratory for Image Processing(HCI)and real-world LFM *** results are compared with different state-of-the-art *** structural similarity index(SSIM)gain for boxes,cotton,pillow,and pens are 0.9760,0.9806,0.9940,and 0.9907,***,the discrete entropy(DE)value for LFM depth maps exhibited better performance than other existing methods.

The capture of CO_(2) by transition metal(Mn,Ni,Co and Zn)aluminates,calcium aluminate,calcium zirconate,calcium silicate and lithium zirconate was carried out at pre-and post-combustion *** prepared metal adsorbents were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),surface area analysis and acidity/alkalinity *** different experimental variables affecting the adsorbents ability to capture CO_(2),such as the mol ratio of metal ions,the pressure of CO_(2),the exposure time and the temperature of the adsorbent were also *** zirconate captured 13.85 wt-%CO_(2) at 650℃ and 2.5 atm and calcium silicate captured 14.31 wt-%at 650℃.Molecular sieves(13X)and carbon can only capture a negligible amount of CO_(2) at high temperatures(300℃–650℃).However,the mixed metal oxides captured reasonable amount of CO_(2) at these higher *** addition,calcium aluminate,calcium zirconate,calcium silicate and lithium zirconate adsorbents captured CO_(2) at both pre and post-combustion *** trend for the amount of captured carbon dioxide over the adsorbents was calcium aluminate

Substrate temperature dependent studies on properties of chemical spray pyrolysis deposited CdS thin films for solar cell applications

Thin films of CdS have been prepared by chemical spray pyrolysis by spraying precursor solution directly onto soda lime glass（SLG） substrates. Influence of substrate temperature on structural, optical, morphological and electrical properties have been investigated by using various techniques such as low angle X-ray diffraction（XRD）, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）, field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）, atomic force microscopy（AFM）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, UV–visible spectroscopy photoluminescence（PL） spectroscopy etc. Formation of CdS has been confirmed by low angle XRD,Raman spectroscopy and XPS analysis. XRD pattern showed that CdS films are polycrystalline, have hexagonal structure and prefer orientation of crystallites shifts from（101） to（002） with increase in substrate *** spectroscopy revealed that exciton-phonon coupling depends on substrate temperature and hence on crystallite size. Optical band gap increased from 2.43 to 2.99 eV when substrate temperature increased from 325 to 475 ℃. Transmittance of the film also showed an increasing trend from 52% to 80% with increase in substrate temperature. Such high band gap and transmittance values of CdS films prepared at 475℃ make it a useful window material in CdS/CdTe and CdS/Cu_2S heterojunction solar cells.
