Thin films of nanostructured α-FeOwith thickness of 1 56,203 and 251 nm were deposited by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR) method onto glass substrates using FeCl-6HO and NaOH as cationic and anionic *** X-ray diffraction studies revealed that,α-FeOthin films are nanocrystalline in nature with rhombohedral *** morphological properties were investigated by field emission scanning electron and atomic force *** optical studies showed that α-FeOexhibits direct as well as indirect optical band gap *** electrical resistivity of α-FeOat 305 K decreases from 11.76×102 to9.46 × 10~2 Ω cm as film thickness increases from 156 to 251 *** thermo-emf measurements confirmed that α-FeOexhibits n-type *** nanocrystalline α-FeOexhibits antibacterial character against Staphylococcus aureus and its efficiency increases from 37.50%to 87.50%depending on crystallite size.

RAV(Related to ABI3/VP1)transcription factors are unique members of the AP2-ERF superfamily with AP2 and B3 domains and play important roles in the regulation of seed germination,plant growth,and stress *** the study,7 RAV genes,named HvRAVs,were identified in barley based on the available genome *** five of the seven HvRAVs were located on chromosome 3,HvRAV5 and HvRAV7 were located on chromosome 1 and 4,*** of the predicted HvRAVs were intron-less,except HvRAV2,which had one *** proteins have shown basic,instable,and hydrophilic *** AP2 domain specific RAYD and WLG motifs were detected in all HvRAV ***,B3 repression domain,R/KLFGV,is also found in the C-terminal of *** were found to have stress-related cis-acting elements,including MYB,MYC,and ***2 was predicted to have no GARE motifs,TATCCCA or TAACAA(G/A),and *** drought conditions,the expression level of HvRAVs did not significantly change in a drought-sensitive barley genotype,whereas HvRAV5 and HvRAV7 were dramatically down-regulated in a drought-tolerant *** of HvRAV5 was also inhibited by ***7 was strongly induced by plant pathogen *** HvRAV6 was induced by exogenous gibberellin application and during the germination ***,HvRAV6 transcript was detected higher than other HvRAVs in all stress and control conditions as well as during *** silico analyses have shown that HvRAVs play a role in response to different abiotic and biotic stresses as well as in plant ***,the extensive biological roles of HvRAV genes in plant development and in response to abiotic and biotic stresses need further investigation.

This research investigates the impact of managed health care on academic medical centers in the united States. Academic medical centers hold a unique position in the u. S. health care system through their missions of conducting cutting-edge biomedical researeh, pursuing clinical and technological innovations, Providing state-of-the-art medical care and producing highly qualified health professionals. However, policies to control costs through the use of managed care and limiting resources are detrimental to academic medical centers and impede the advancement of medical sciTo survive the threats of managed care in the health care environment, acadendc medical centers must rely on their upper level managers to derive successful strategies. The methods used in this study include qualitative approaches in the form of key informants and case studies. In addition, a survey questionnaire was sent to 1h8 CEOs in all the academic medical centers in the u. S. The findings revealed that managers who perform the liaison, monitor, entrepreneur and resource allocator roles are crucial to ensure the survival of academic medical centers, so that academic medical centers can continue their missions to serve the general public and promote their well-being.

This study presents a comprehensive approach to applying texturing processes created by engraving on the surface of CoCr28Mo alloy workpieces using a 20 W pulsed nanosecond fiber *** hatch strategy and distance,frequency,and scan speed were control parameters for texturing *** effectiveness of the parameters in terms of roughness and contact angle of the texturized surface was *** roughness and contact angle were analyzed using variance analysis to identify each variable's *** has been determined that the roughness of the texture defined by the hatch strategy plays a decisive role in the wettability behavior of the surface;however,the scan speed,frequency,and hatch distance which are among the laser surface texturing conditions are influential in the roughness and contact *** scan speed and hatch distance while decreasing frequency resulted in smoother surfaces,increasing the contact *** having rough surfaces produced with different processing conditions exhibit a super hydrophilic *** contact angle is most sensitive to the hatch distance;however,the frequency has the least influence on the contact *** most and least efficient surface roughness parameters are revealed to be scan speed and hatch distance,respectively.

Water deficit is one of the most important causes of decreased yield in cultivated plants. Non-foliar green organs in cotton play an important role in yield formation at the late growth stage. Although better photosynthetic performance was observed in a non-foliar organ （bract） compared with leaves under water deficit. However, the physiological response of each organ in cotton to water deficit has not been comprehensively studied in relation to the water status and photosynthesis characteristics. We studied the maintenance of water status of each organ in cotton by measuring their relative water content, proline content and stomatal characteristics. Water deficit significantly decreased the surface area of each organ, but to a lesser extent in non-foliar organs. Our results showed that the relative contribution of biomass accumulation of non-foliar organs increased under water deficit. Non-foliar organs （bracts and capsule wall） showed less ontogenetic decrease in O2 evolution capacity and in RuBPC activity （per dry weight） as well as better antioxidant systems than leaves at various days after anthesis. We conclude that the photosynthesis from non-foliar organs is important for increasing cotton yield especially under water deficit conditions.

Relationship between magnetic parameters and heavy element contents of arable soil around a steel company,Nanjing

Magnetic parameters and element contents were determined in core NJ008 collected from the uppermost ca. 40 cm in a steel company in southwest Nanjing. The results showed that magnetic susceptibility (χ), saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) and anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM) were enhanced in the uppermost 20 cm, with a mean magnetic susceptibility value of 112.5×10-8 m3 kg-1. Below 20 cm, χ decreased sharply with a mean value of 27.8×10-8m3 kg-1. Low-coercivity minerals such as magnetite dominate in arable soils, while the relative content of antiferromagnetic minerals increases below 20 cm. Heavy metals (Ni, Cu, Fe, Pb, V, and Zn) have similar vertical trends as χ. Principal component analysis reveals common high loadings of the same factor for magnetic concentration parameters (χ, ARM, and SIRM) and elements (Ni, Cu, Fe, Pb, V, and Zn) with an excellent linear correlation (0.69≤R≤0.98) between them. Magnetic susceptibility of paddy soil core NJ013, which had the same parent material as NJ008 but was far from pollution sources, showed stable values of magnetic concentration parameters along the whole core. Absolute values correspond to the so-called magnetic background value (below 20 cm) of NJ008. This indicates that pesticide and fertilizer had little effect on magnetic signals of the upper part of core NJ008 and the extremely enhanced magnetic concentration parameters originate from the steel company emission. Although, the arable soil does not reveal the pollution history and transportation due to annual ploughing, the significant linear relationship between magnetic concentration parameters and heavy metal contents suggests that magnetic parameters can serve as a proxy for quickly detecting soil metallic pollution and estimating the extent of contamination.

Enantioselective synthesis of (R)-α-amino acids via heterocyclic intermediate-(3S)-2,5-dimethoxy-3-see-butyl-3, 6-dihydropyrazine (5), using L-isoleucine as chiral auxiliaryreagent and glycine as raw meterial, has been studied. The alkylation of compound 5 withbutyllithium affords its lithium derivative (6) according to the cardanion mechanism. Then 6reacts with alkyl halide RX (7) to give the alkylated products (8) with very high diastereo-selectivity. In this reaction, the group R of 7 enters trans to the see-butyl group at C-3, i. *** (R)-configuration is induced at C-6 of 8. After hydrolysis the (R)-α-amino acid methylesters (9) are obtained.

A simple,inexpensive direct micromolding method for patterning Au nanocrystal superlattices using a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)stamp has been *** method involves in situ synthesis of Au(I)dodecanethiolate and its decomposition leading to Au nanocrystals in the microchannels of the stamp which order themselves to form patterned superlattice stripes,in conformity with the stamp *** to its insolubility in common solvents,the dodecanethiolate was made by reacting Au(PPh3)Cl and dodecanethiol in situ inside the microchannels,by injecting first the former solution in toluene at room temperature followed by the thiol solution at 120°*** the reaction mixture at 250°C,resulted in formation of nanocrystals(with a mean diameter of 7.5 nm)and hexagonal *** using an external pressure while molding,parallel stripes with sub-100 nm widths were *** choice of parameters such as injection temperature of the thiol and concentrations is shown to be important if an ordered superlattice is to be *** addition,these parameters can be varied as a means to control the nanocrystal size.
