In response to the increased.frequency of flood.events in recent years, it has become crucial to enhance prepared.ess and.anticipation through precise flood.risk assessments. To this end. this stud. aims to prod.ce upd.ted.and.precise flood.risk maps for the Lower Valley of Ouémé River Basin, located.in the South of Benin. The method.logy used.consisted.of a combination of geographical information systems (GIS) and.multi-criteria analysis, includ.ng Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. to d.fine and.quantify criteria for flood.risk assessment. Seven hyd.o-geomorphological ind.cators (elevation, rainfall, slope, d.stance from rivers, flow accumulation, soil type, and.d.ainage d.nsity), four socio-economic vulnerability ind.cators (female population d.nsity, literacy rate, poverty ind.x, and.road.network d.nsity), and.two exposure ind.cators (population d.nsity and.land.use) were integrated.to generate risk maps. The results ind.cate that approximately 21.5% of the Lower Valley is und.r high and.very high flood.risk, mainly in the south between d.ngbo, So-Ava, and.Aguégués. The stud. find.ngs align with the historical flood.pattern in the region, which confirms the suitability of the used.method. The novelty of this work lies in its comprehensive approach, the incorporation of AHP for weighting factors, and.the use of remote sensing d.ta, GIS technology, and.spatial analysis techniques which ad.s precision to the mapping process. This work ad.ances the scientific und.rstand.ng of flood.risk assessment and.offers practical insights and.solutions for flood.prone regions. The d.tailed.flood.risk ind.cator maps obtained.stand.out from previous stud.es and.provid. valuable information for effective flood.risk management and.mitigation efforts in the Lower Valley of Ouémé.

While some research has explored.racial and.ethnic d.fferences in d.sord.red.eating, this stud. may be the first to examine these d.fferences in orthorexia nervosa, involving obsessive-compulsive thoughts and.behaviors concerning healthy eating, which negatively impact one’s life. Ad.lt participants, recruited.from college courses and.social med.a, completed.an online survey with the Orthorexia Nervosa Inventory (ONI) and.the Eating Attitud.s Test-26 (EAT-26). Regard.ng racial and.ethnic background. 743 were White, 249 were Hispanic, 87 were Black, 61 were Asian or Pacific Island.r, and.110 were biracial/multiracial. A MANCOVA revealed.that the racial and.ethnic groups d.d.not d.ffer on the ONI subscales assessing orthorexic behaviors, impairments, and.emotions, after accounting for gend.r, BMI, and.EAT-26 total scores that were covariates. In contrast, a second.MANCOVA d.d.reveal group d.fferences on the EAT-26 subscales, after accounting for gend.r, BMI, and.ONI total scores that were covariates. Black participants scored.significantly lower than the other racial and.ethnic groups on the subscale assessing d.eting behaviors characteristic of anorexia nervosa, and.the subscale assessing binge-eating and.purging behaviors characteristic of bulimia nervosa. Further, Hispanic participants scored.significantly lower than White participants on the latter subscale. These find.ngs suggest that while orthorexic symptomatology d.es not d.ffer based.on race and.ethnicity, a Black race and.Hispanic ethnicity may be protective factors against d.sord.red.eating, perhaps related.either to cultural norms concerning bod. image or to the resiliency and.social support among the Black and.Hispanic communities.
