The Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) is a research complex consisting of a heavy-ion accelerator, which contains a front-end system, a super-conducting linear accelerator, an isotope separator online (ISOL) system, and an in-flight system. The original purpose of the post-linear-accelerator (post-linac) section was to accelerate either a stable driver beam derived from an electron cyclotron resonance ion source, or an unstable rare-isotope beam from an ISOL system. The post-linac lattice has now been redesigned using a novel and improved acceleration concept that allows the simultaneous acceleration of both a stable driver beam and a radioisotope beam. To achieve this, the post-linac lattice is set for a mass-to-charge ratio (A/q) that is the average of the two beams. The performance of this simultaneous two-beam acceleration is here assessed using two ion beams: 58Ni^8+ and 132Sn^20+. A beam dynamics simulation was performed using the TRACK and TraceWin codes. The resultant beam dynamics for the new RISP post-linac lattice design are examined. We also estimate the effects of machine errors and their correction on the post-linac lattice.

The supply of highly concentrated oxygen positively affects cognitive processing in normal young adults. However, there have been few reports on changes in cognitive ability in elderly subjects following highly concentrated oxygen administration. This study investigated changes in cognitive ability, blood oxygen saturation （%）, and heart rate （beats/min） in normal elderly subjects at three different levels of oxygen [21% （1 L/min）, 93% （1 L/min）, and 93% （5 L/min）] administered during a 1-back task. Eight elderly male （75.3 ＋ 4.3 years old） and 10 female （71.1 ＋ 3.9 years old） subjects, who were normal in cognitive ability as shown by a score of more than 24 points in the Mini-Mental State Examination-Korea, participated in the experiment. The experiment consisted of an adaptation phase after the start of oxygen administration （3 minutes）, a control phase to obtain stable baseline measurements of heart rate and blood oxygen saturation before the task （2 minutes） and a task phase during which the 1-back task was performed （2 minutes）. Three levels of oxygen were administered throughout the three phases （7 minutes）. Blood oxygen saturation and heart rate were measured during each phase. Our results show that blood oxygen saturation increased, heart rate decreased, and response time in the 1-back task decreased as the concentration and amount of administered oxygen increased. This shows that administration of sufficient oxygen for optimal cognitive functioning increases blood oxygen saturation and decreases heart rate.

The long-term existence of dam structures significantly modified the river channel. In accordance with a drastic increase of low-head dams under consideration for removal in recent years, it is important to predict the effects of low-head dam removal from the modified river channel by the low-head dam construction. This study intends to investigate the long-term channel evolution process following low-head construction and removal and to find out the influential parameters (sediment diameter, river bed slope, dam height) for those channel evolution by two-dimensional numerical simulation model. Following the low-head dam construction, sediment deposition rates in upstream of the low-head dam are varied with the influential parameters. The sediment deposition rates and sandbar formation with riparian vegetation settlement on sandbars have significantly affected for channel evolution following low-head dam removal. Especially the knickpoint formation and the types of vegetation (grass type and tree type) on the sandbars are critical factors for channel evolution following low-head dam removal. Through the numerical simulation results of low-head dam construction (50 years) and low-head dam removal (50 years), it is identified that the modified river channel by low-head dam may not be easily restored to pre-dam conditions following its removal especially in river geomorphology and riparian vegetation. Consequently, this study found that the reversibility following low-head dam construction and removal depends on the sediment deposition rates in upstream of the low-head dam.

Modeling for Underground Cable Water Tree Growth Dynamics

Underground cable faults, whether transient or permanent, are traceable to in-sulation failure problems, most of which are water tree initiated. Insulation breakdown, which usually leads to costly power outages, may be prevented by taking pre-emptive actions. The most decisive pre-emptive action is one in which real-time tracking of water tree advancement within the cable insulation system is possible. Such pre-emptive actions, however, depend on accurate modeling of the phenomenon. Earlier water tree models are static in that they focused on the cable insulation property change at a time segment. Thus, they lack the properties needed for tracking water tree progress and for determining the onset of transient and permanent faults. This paper presents a new ap-proach to water tree modeling, focused on insulation degradation geometry in the form of parabolic expansion of water tree. We developed a dynamic model centered on the computation of the capacitance of a vented water tree as a function of time. The dynamic model accounts for the time-dependence of the radial growth of the water tree to track insulation degradation. The model was tested in predicting cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable’s insulation lifespan. The result was found to be within the range of the recorded lifespan of field aged cables in the literature. Also, performance comparison with an earlier analytical model validated with COMSOL Hyperphysics software shows a signif-icant correlation between them.

This paper describes an integrated platform for machine learning and big data analysis. The integrated platform is configured in a way that builds a large distributed data processing environment in the computing environment that makes up the NVIDIA AI platform. In addition, this paper describes the background of this idea selection and the use of the software to build the unified platform. The technical details are shown in terms of how to create the proposed platform. In the anlaysis section, the methodology is provided and also the steps are explained as to how to use this integration platform. Finally, the expected effects are elaborated in the conclusion section.

Managing Public Relationships via Corporate Blogs

This research explored the organization＇s public relationship management practices in corporate blogs on the web. Content analyses of corporate blogs of large Korean firms over two years in a longitudinal design revealed that relationship management strategies of openness, positivity and sharing of tasks were featured relatively strongly, whereas networking, access, and assurances were enacted relatively weakly. Further, most Korean corporate blogs utilized a tightly controlled top-down strategy. In addition, the use level of relationship management strategy was tied to the kind of corporate blogging strategies, but not to the industry type of the firms. Although utilized the same social media device, corporate blogs enacted different purposes and relational management activities in different countries, indicating that corporate blogs are largely cultural and driven locally.
