A Case Report of a Sarcomatoid Carcinoma Arising in the Renal Pelvis with Exuberant Osteosarcomatous Element

Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor that has both malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. We describe a sarcomatoid carcinoma arising in the right renal pelvis of a 68-year-old man. The dominant component of the tumor was osteosarcomatous, but there were also focal carcinomatous areas. The sarcomatous tumor cells produced abundant osteoid matrix surrounded by osteoblastic cells. The carcinomatous tumor cells consisted of papillary urothelial carcinoma. Immunohistochemical assay showed that the sarcomatous tumor cells were positive for vimentin and negative for cytokeratin. The papillary urothelial carcinoma was positive for cytokeratin and negative for vimentin. After surgery, the patient underwent adjuvant chemotherapy. Four months later, he presented with recurrence in the right subphrenic area and metastasis in the right middle lobe of the lung.

Cytomegalovirus enteritis with jejunal perforation in a patient with endometrial adenocarcinoma

Cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection of the gastrointestinal tract has been reported most frequently in the setting of immunodeficiency. The whole gastrointestinal tract can be affected; however, the small bowel is rarely affected. We report a case of CMV enteritis with jejunal perforation in a 53-year-old woman with a history of chemoradiation therapy for endometrial cancer 8 years previously. At follow-up evaluation, lower abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting appeared. Abdominal computed tomography showed intra-abdominal free air in the subphrenic space and porta hepatis. The jejunal segment revealed serosal purulent exudates with a perforation. The resected jejunal segment showed a large geographic ulcerative mucosal lesion. The microscopic findings revealed a diffuse ulcerative mucosal change with a prominent granulation tissue formation and many large atypical vascular endothelial cells and stromal fibroblasts with intranuclear or intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies. These cells were positive for CMV antibody. The final diagnosis was CMV-associated jejunitis with a jejunal perforation.

Soil compression influences the avoidance behavior of Allonychiurus kimi(Collembola)to cadmium and copper

The behavior of soil organisms inhabiting soil pore spaces can be influenced by soil compression,which can affect their avoidance behavior to *** this study,we aimed to evaluate the effect of soil compression on the avoidance behavior of Allonychiurus kimi(Collembola)to heavy metals cadmium and ***,to assess the applicability of the avoidance test guideline of the International Organization for Standardization(ISO)developed for Folsomia candida,we investigated the avoidance behavior of *** to cadmium and copper in an artificial soil with a loose structure(bulk density of 0.25 g cm^(-3)),the porous texture of which was sufficiently loose to enable *** to move between pore *** effect of soil compression on the avoidance behavior of *** to both metals was evaluated in compressed soil(bulk density of 0.64 g cm^(-3))with a uniformly compressed soil surface,and avoidance behavior was investigated at 24-h intervals over a 120-h *** that *** is unable to burrow into compressed soil,the compressed soil test can minimize the effects of differences in soil factors,such as soil porosity and bulk density,on the behavior of this *** the artificial soil,a statistically significant avoidance behavior of *** was observed at cadmium and copper concentrations greater than 50 and 200 mg kg^(-1),respectively,thereby indicating the applicability of the ISO avoidance test guidelines for *** compared at the same exposure time point,the avoidance response to both metals in compressed soil was less sensitive than that in uncompressed *** addition,we observed differences in the effects of metals on avoidance response in the compressed soil over time,with the effect of cadmium increasing with time and the effect of copper showing the opposite ***,we found that soil compression can affect the avoidance behavior of *** to cadmium and copper,and we discussed the advantages and limitations of using compressed

Characteristics of greenhouse gas emissions from rice paddy fields in South Korea under climate change scenario RCP-8.5 using the DNDC model

Understanding the greenhouse gas(GHG)emission from rice paddy fields is essential to come up with appropriate countermeasure in response to global ***,GHG emissions from paddy fields in South Korea are not well *** objectives of this study were to estimate the carbon dioxide(CO_(2))and methane(CH_(4))emissions from rice paddy fields in South Korea,under the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5(RCP-8.5)climate change scenario using the DNDC(i.e.,DeNitrification-DeComposition)model at 1-km^(2)*** performance of the model was verified with field data collected using a closed chamber,which supports the application of the model to South *** the model predictions and field measurements showed that most(>95%)GHG emissions occur in the cropping period,between April and *** a baseline(assuming no climate change),the national sums of the CO_(2)and CH_(4)emissions for the 2020 s and 2090 s were estimated to be 5.8×10^(6)and 6.0×10^(6)t CO_(2)-equivalents(CO_(2)-eq)year^(-1)for CO_(2)and 6.4×10^(6)and 6.6×10^(6)t CO_(2)-eq year^(-1)for CH_(4),respectively,indicating no significant changes over 80 *** RCP-8.5,in the 2090 s,CH_(4)emissions were predicted to increase by 10.7×10^(6)and 14.9×10^(6)t CO_(2)-eq year^(-1),for a 10-or 30-cm tillage depth,***,the CO_(2)emissions gradually decreased with rising temperatures,due to reduced root *** tillage increased the emissions of both GHGs,with a more pronounced effect for CH_(4)than CO_(2).Intermittent drainage in the middle of the cropping season can attenuate the CH_(4)emissions from paddy *** findings of this work will aid in developing nationwide policies on agricultural land management in the face of climate change.
