Garden cress seed is a potential source of macro and micronutrients including essential fatty acids and amino acids as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. The seed also provides appreciable amount of health-protective bioactive compounds used to treat diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, bone fracture, asthma, constipation and some forms of cancer. Besides,, it is used to develop functional foods of therapeutic value in food manufacturing industries and traditional food preparations. Even though, it is known for its superior health benefits, provision of essential nutrients, and wider application in functional food development it is among the most underutilized crop in the world. Additionally, majority of studies conducted on garden cress seeds are mainly animal trials and hence needs to conduct studies on human. Therefore, the aim of this review paper is to provide up to date research evidence on the nutrient composition and therapeutic use of underutilized garden cress seeds and its functional food products, promising for the prevention of non-communicable and communicable diseases.

BACKGROUND Standard triple therapy is an effective treatment for eradicating Helicobacter pylori infection,but it is encountered with drug *** stool antigen test is a cost-effective and easy-to-perform test to confirm the eradication of ***,4-8 weeks post-therapy,with 86%sensitivity and 92%*** To assess the *** eradication rate of standard triple therapy and factors affecting the eradication *** We conducted a prospective,multicenter follow-up study in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia,at selected healthcare facilities among dyspeptic patients with positive stool *** antigen tests from June 1,2023 to October 30,2023 to assess the *** eradication *** completing the standard triple therapy,the eradication was confirmed using a stool antigen test 4 weeks *** data were analyzed using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression *** The *** eradication rate was 85.4%.Patients with a previous diagnosis of *** infection,smokers,and local alcohol consumption were associated with a lower *** eradication rate,with adjusted odds ratio(AORs)of 0.159[95%confidence interval(CI):0.050-0.511],0.206(95%CI:0.052-0.822),and 0.228(95%CI:0.052-0.997),*** with complete symptom resolution were 5.383 times more likely to achieve eradication than patients without symptom improvement,AOR=5.383,95%CI:*** *** eradication rate was lower than ***-treatment testing is crucial to confirm eradication and guide further management,such as susceptibility testing.

COVID-19 and Tuberculosis(TB)are among the major global public health problems and diseases with major socioeconomic *** dynamics of these diseases are spread throughout the world with clinical similarities which makes them difficult to be *** this study,we formulate and analyze a mathematical model containing several epidemiological characteristics of the co-dynamics of COVID-19 and *** conditions are derived for the stability of both COVID-19 and TB sub-models *** certain conditions,the TB sub-model could undergo the phenomenon of backward bifurcation whenever its associated reproduction number is less than *** equilibria of the full TBCOVID-19 model are locally asymptotically stable,but not globally,due to the possible occurrence of backward *** incorporation of exogenous reinfection into our model causes effects by allowing the occurrence of backward bifurcation for the basic reproduction number R_(0)η*).The analytical results show that reducing R_(0)<1 may not be sufficient to eliminate the disease from the *** optimal control strategies were proposed to minimize the disease burden and related *** existence of optimal controls and their characterization are established using Pontryagin's Minimum ***,different numerical simulations of the control induced model are carried out to observe the effects of the control *** reveals the usefulness of the optimization strategies in reducing COVID-19 infection and the co-infection of both diseases in the community.

Rainfall variability coupled with poor land and water management is contributing to food insecurity in many sub-Saharan African countries such as *** address such challenges,various efforts have been implemented in *** objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term impacts of different soil and water conservation and water harvesting interventions on groundwater and drought resilience of the Gule watershed,northern *** study involved:(i)documentation of the ap-proaches followed and the technologies implemented in Gule since the 1990s,(ii)monitoring the hy-drological effects of the interventions for ten years,and(iii)evaluation of the effects of the interventions on groundwater(level and quality),spring discharge and suspended sediment concentration(SSC)in *** showed that interventions were implemented at different stages and *** a result of the interventions,the watershed was transformed into a landscape resilient to rainfall variability:(a)dry shallow groundwater wells have become productive and the level of water in wells has raised,(b)the groundwater quality has improved,(c)SSC in high floods has reduced by up to 65%,(d)discharge of existing springs has increased by up to 73%and new springs have started to *** to improved water availability,irrigated land has increased from less than 3.5 ha before 2002 to 166 ha in *** have remained water-secure during an extreme drought in 2015/*** of watershed management practices has transformed the landscape to be resilient to rainfall variability in a semi-arid environment:a lesson for adaptation to climate variability and change in similar environments.

positively or negatively depending on the *** has influence on the soil physico-chemical *** use land cover changes are the main factors in the process of land resource *** objectives of this study were to define the soil texture,bulk density and extent of organic carbon in church forests and adjacent croplands and to compare the *** lines of 100 meter apart and plots of 20 m×20 m were established to collect soil samples in the church forests and individual farm *** distance between plots was 100 *** based soil sampling was *** samples were collected on a diagonal position from 2 edges and the center from 2 soil horizons(H1 and H2)for soil texture and soil organic carbon(SOC)*** bulk density(BD)soil core samplers were *** data was analyzed using one way ANOVA in SPSS *** separation was undertaken by least significance *** results revealed the%clay content was significantly higher in croplands than church forests and the%sand was higher in church forests than croplands at(p<0.05).The SOC was significantly higher in H1 than H2 and in church forests than croplands at(p<0.05).The better soil characteristics were obtained in church forests than in ***,it is recommended to conserve the natural forests as in the church forests to maintain better property of the soil through enhancing soil organic matter,soil organic carbon and by decreasing soil bulk density.

The response of phytoplankton and its satellite bacteria to various concentrations(0.01%-10%v/v)of ethanol is *** elucidate the effect of ethanol,single-strains of phytoplankton(SSP)culture,pure strains of satellite bacteria isolated from nonaxenic SSP cultures,and Escherichia coli were *** indicate that ethanol could promote the growth and photo synthetic efficiency(F_(v)/F_(m))of S SP at 0.01%and the growth of satellite bacteria at 0.01%-1%.Nevertheless,ethanol inhibited the growth and F_(v)/F_(m)of SSP at 0.1%-1%,and killed bacteria and SSP at 10% *** investigation on a satellite bacterium(Mameliella alba)revealed that ethanol promotes growth by serving as a growth stimulant rather than a metabolic carbon *** 16 S rRNA gene amplicon indicated that all nonaxenic S SP cultures harbor distinct satellite bacteria communities where the SSP culture of Skeletonema costatum,Phaeodactylum tricornutum,and Dunaliella bardawil were dominated by bacteria genera of Marivita(~80%),Dinoroseobacter(~47%),and Halomonas(~87%),respectively,indicating that every SSP cultures have their own distinct satellite bacterial *** bacteria family Rhodobacteraceae was dominant in the two marine diatoms,whereas Halomonadaceae was dominant in the saline green *** to their respective controls,the supply of 0.5% ethanol to SSP cultures promoted the growth of the satellite bacteria but did not cause a significant difference in species composition of satellite ***,a low concentration of ethanol can promote the growth of bacteria in a non-selective *** study enriched our knowledge about the effect of ethanol on aquatic microbes and provided a baseline for basic and applied biotechnological re search in the aquatic environment in the future.

Patient safety practices and medical errors: Perception of health care providers at Jimma University Specialized Hospital, Southwest Ethiopia

Background: Even though evidences are limited in developing countries, the probability of patients being harmed in hospitals when receiving care might be much greater than that of the industrialized nations. Thus, aim of this study was to assess patient safety practice and the perceived prevalence of medical errors at Jimma University Specialized Hospital, Southwest Ethiopia. Methods: A facility based cross-sectional study was conducted during June, July and August 2010 in Jimma University Specialized Hospital. Patient safety grade and the perceived prevalence of medical errors were computed descriptively. Then, the effect of various independent variables on patient safety grade was assessed using multiple linear regressions analysis. Result: The overall patient safety grade as rated by the participants was excellent (7.2%), very good (20.7%), acceptable (36.0%), poor (30.0%) and failing (6.4%). Complications related to anesthesia occurred sometimes, rarely and never according to 30.8%, 43% and 15.8% of the respondents, respectively. Death in low mortality patients was reported to occur most of the time by 10.4% of the respondents. In addition, failure to rescue, infection due to medical care, postoperative hemorrhage, postoperative sepsis, birth injury to the neonate, obstetric trauma to the mother were reported to happened. Supervisor expectation and actions promoting patient safety (p < 0.001), and communication openness and feedback about errors (p = 0.002) had positive correlation with patient safety grade. Conclusion: this study indicated that poor patient safety practice and potentially preventable medical errors in the hospital.

随着当今全球经济一体化发展和人口数量的增加,交通运输所扮演的角色在世界范围内受到了极大的关注。经济和运输自然未来的主流观点之一认为交通运输被反映在普通文献当中,强调运输是由于供需空间分离函数表达的原因而存在,因此它被认为是“派生”于其它事件的[1]。然而,当前供应链和物流管理的发展突显了将客货运输的思考作为一种派生性需求的模式转换。在不同的实践模式中,生产,运输和消费的功能已经被植入到难以区分的地步。随着人口和经济的快速增长,埃塞尔比亚需要高效的交通系统。然而,这个国家除了航空运输外,其它的交通运输基础设施发展不完善;公路和铁路运输网络和线网密度处于低水平;这也是非洲最困难的挑战之一;包括财务、维护、专业人员和管理问题。尽管在铁路运输方面存在很多缺陷,埃塞尔比亚现已制定了一个雄心勃勃的计划,即要发展总长度为5000千米的铁路网络系统。本论文试图填补需求缺口,这在铁路网系统规划、建模和管理的投入至关重要。根据历史表明,吉布提铁路公司曾在交通和金融方面遭受巨大的损失,并逐渐被迫退出运营。本研究开发的直接需求模型简单,能够在单一计算的情况下产生交通需求。它在SPSS中采用不同的变量进行选择和分析,并用r=0.98和r2=0.96皮尔森系数进行验证模型。
