Ef.ect of.Three Dif.erent Growth Media on Yield and Oil Constituents of.Rosemary （Rosmarinus of.icinalis L.） under Protected Agriculture Conditions

Medicinal plants provide an important source of.cure since ancient time. Poor soil resources, scarce and saline water and the harsh environment limited the production of.plants in the Arabian Gulf.countries. This study aimed to investigate the production potential of.rosemary (Rosmarinus of.icinalis L.) grown on dif.erent growth media under greenhouse conditions. Three growth media agricultural soil, compost and hydroponic system were used, whereas tuf. (inert volcanic material) was used as substrate. The result indicated that the high salinity of.the agricultural soil limited growth and oil yield in rosemary. Shoot height increased in 11 weeks, by 62%, 65% and 114% in plants grown in agricultural soil, hydroponic system and compost, respectively. Na content in plants grown in agricultural soil was signif.cantly higher than in plants grown in the other treatment. Essential oil yield in plants grown in compost exceeded those in agricultural soil by 114%. Essential oil content (0.66%-1.5% w/w) and chemical constituents concentrations did not change signif.cantly with growth media. The main constituents, more or less, are comparable to essential oils constituents reported f.om other countries. In comparison, better yields are obtained f.r individual components of.the oils of.plants grown under our green house conditions. This study demonstrated the great potential of.commercial production of.rosemary in the greenhouse without compromising the oil quality and oil yield.

Solute transport and geochemical modeling of.the coastal quaternary aquif.r, Delta Dahab Basin, South Sinai, Egypt

The wadi dahab delta is in a dry, arid coastal zone within Egypt’s south Sinai Peninsula’s eastern portion. The primary water source is the Quaternary coastal alluvial aquif.r. The groundwater salinity varies f.om 890to 8213 mg/L, with a mean value of.3417 mg/L. The dissolved major ions have been used to calculate the seawater mixing index(SWMI) using a linear equation that discriminates the groundwater mostly af.ected by water–rock interaction(SWMI 1>) and other samples mixed with Seawater(SWMI f.groundwater f.r specif.cally chosen groundwater samples ranges f.om-0.645‰ to +5.212‰ f.r δ^(18)O and f.om-9.582‰ to + 22.778‰ f.r δ^(2)H, where the seawater represented by a Red Sea water sample(δ^(18)O + 1.64‰-δ^(2)H + 9.80‰) and reject brine water are considerably enriched the isotopic groundwater values. The geochemical NETPATH model constrained by the dissolved signif.cant ions, isotopes, and the rock aquif.r f.rming minerals as phases indicate the mixing percent with the seawater ranges f.om 9% to 97% of.seawater f.om 91% to 3% of.original recharge water. According to the SEAWAT 3-D f.ow models, seawater has penetrated the Northeastern Dahab delta aquif.r, with the intrusion zone extending1500 m inland. The salt dissolution, upwelling of.saline water, recharge f.om the upstream mountain block, and seawater encroachment are the primary aspects contributing to the deterioration of.groundwater quality. These f.ndings may have signif.cance f.r ef.ective groundwater withdrawal management in arid locations worldwide with similar hydrogeological systems.

An Application of.Machine Learning Methods to Detect Mango Varieties

The mango, a f.uit of.immense economic and dietary signif.cance in numerous tropical and subtropical regions, plays a pivotal role in our agricultural landscape. Accurate identif.cation is not just a necessity, but a crucial step f.r ef.ective classif.cation, sorting, and marketing. This study delves into the potential of.machine learning f.r this task, comparing the perf.rmance of.f.ur models: MobileNetV2, Xception, VGG16, and ResNet50V2. These models were trained on a dataset of.annotated mango images, and their perf.rmance was evaluated using precision, accuracy, f. score, and recall, which are standard metrics f.r image classif.cation. The Xception model, with its exceptional perf.rmance, outshone the other models on all perf.rmance indicators. It achieved a staggering accuracy of.99.47%, an f. score of.99.43%, and a recall of.99.43%, showcasing its remarkable ability to accurately identif. mango varieties. MobileNetV2 f.llowed closely with perf.rmances of.98.95% accuracy, 98.85% f. score, and 98.86% recall. ResNet50V2 also delivered satisf.ctory results with 97.39% accuracy, 97.08% f. score, and 97.17% recall. VGG16, however, was the least ef.ective, with a precision rate of.83.25%, an f. score of.83.25%, and a recall of.85.47%. These results conf.rm the superiority of.the Xception model in detecting mango varieties. Its advanced architecture allows it to capture more distinguishing f.atures of.mango images, leading to greater precision and reliability. Xception’s robustness in identif.ing true positives is another advantage, minimizing f.lse positives and contributing to more accurate classif.cation. This study highlights the promising potential of.machine learning, particularly the Xception model, f.r accurately identif.ing mango varieties.

The waveguide which is at the center of.our concerns in this work is a strongly f.attened waveguide, that is to say characterized by a strong dispersion and in addition is strongly nonlinear. As this type of.waveguide contains multiple dispersion coef.icients according to the degrees of.spatial variation within it, our work in this article is to see how these dispersions and nonlinearities each inf.uence the wave or the signal that can propagate in the waveguide. Since the partial dif.erential equation which governs the dynamics of.propagation in such transmission medium presents several dispersion and nonlinear coef.icients, we check how they contribute to the choices of.the solutions that we want them to verif. this nonlinear partial dif.erential equation. This ef.ectively requires an adequate choice of.the f.rm of.solution to be constructed. Thus, this article is based on three main pillars, namely: f.rst of.all, making a good choice of.the solution f.nction to be constructed, secondly, determining the exact solutions and, if.necessary, remodeling the main equation such that it is possible;then check the impact of.the dispersion and nonlinear coef.icients on the solutions. f.nally, the reliability of.the solutions obtained is tested by a study of.the propagation. Another very important aspect is the use of.notions of.probability to select the predominant solutions.

Optimization of.Tin-Doped Hybrid Perovskite Solar Cells

Perovskites are a category of.materials with a unique crystal structure that allows them to absorb sunlight ef.iciently. This ef.iciency is particularly high in the case of.CH3NH3Pb1-xSnxI3 mixed perovskites. The combination of.lead (Pb) and tin (Sn) in this matrix provides a broad spectrum of.sunlight absorption, enabling the generation of.a larger voltage and, subsequently, increased power. The primary objective in solar cell development is to maximize the conversion of.sunlight into electricity. Mixed perovskites like CH3NH3Pb1-xSnxI3 have demonstrated signif.cant potential in this regard. Their tunable bandgap, courtesy of.varying the Pb: Sn ratio, allows f.r the optimization of.sunlight absorption. The result is solar cells that surpass many conventional counterparts in terms of.energy ef.iciency. Another signif.cant advantage of.these mixed perovskite solar cells is their cost-ef.ectiveness. They can be manuf.ctured using solution-based processes, which are less expensive than the high-vacuum methods required f.r traditional silicon solar cells. While the prospects f.r mixed perovskite solar cells are undeniably promising, there are concerns about the toxicity of.lead, a key component of.these cells. Lead is known to have harmf.l ef.ects on the environment and health. The aim of.our work is to reduce or eliminate lead toxicity in the perovskite cell while maintaining its ef.iciency. Correlation between DKK-1 Level and Bone Density Status in Children on Maintenance Haemodialysis

Background: Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is a bone disorder resulting f.om chronic kidney disease (CKD) and related metabolic diseases. Dickkopf.related protein-1 (DKK-1) is critical in regulating bone biology. This study aimed to evaluate the serum DKK-1 level as a bone marker in children with CKD who undergo regular hemodialysis (HD). Subjects and Methods: This case-control study involved 40 children with CKD on HD and 40 healthy children as controls. The study measured serum DKK-1 levels and perf.rmed a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan (DEXA) in line with routine laboratory investigations. Results: There was a signif.cant increase in the serum level of.DKK-1 in the patient group compared to the control group. The DKK-1 levels were 2540.65 (2215.4 - 2909.2) pg/ml and 1110.45 (885.45 - 1527.65) pg/ml, respectively, with a p-value of.less than 0.001. In the hemodialysis group, 25 patients (62.5%) had low bone mineral density (BMD) with a Z-score of.under -2.0. Eighteen of.these patients had low BMD in both the neck of.the f.mur and lumbar spines. Additionally, there was a signif.cant increase in serum DKK-1 level in patients with low BMD (2567.35 (2303.8 - 3108.1) pg/ml) compared to patients with normal BMD (2454 (1859 - 2820) pg/ml) (p = 0.041). There was also a signif.cant positive correlation between DKK1 level and phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and Parathormone serum levels. In conclusion, the study indicates a clear correlation between DKK-1 and BMD in children undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. DKK1 is a promising biomarker f.r CKD-MBD.

When contributing to participatory research, f.rmers usually appreciate the perf.rmance of.cowpea varieties using qualitative scores. The score they attribute to each variety are based on local knowledge. The specif.c criteria they individually use to attribute a score are not well described. The objectives of.this work were to: 1) identif. and describe exhaustively the local criteria used by f.rmers to measure the agronomic perf.rmance of.cowpea;2) assess the variability and statistical structure of.these f.rmer criteria across local contexts;3) and analyze the association between these f.rmer criteria and the classical agronomic measurement. To achieve these objectives, an augmented block design was implemented across f.f.een locations in the regions of.Maradi, Dosso and Tillabéri, representing a diversity of.local contexts. f.om a set of.36 cowpea varieties, f.f.een varieties were sown per location, including f.ve varieties (controls) common to all locations. In each location, two replicates were sown in randomized f.sher’s blocks. Af.er agronomic measurement and participatory evaluation (scoring of.varieties by f.rmers), a group survey (f.cus group) was conducted in each location to identif. the criteria considered by f.rmers to f.und their discretional scoring of.varieties during the participatory evaluation. The analysis of.the data identif.ed, across locations, thirteen criteria def.ned by f.rmers to characterize the agronomic perf.rmance of.cowpea. Some of.these criteria were dif.erent according to location. f.rmers ranked the three varieties with the best perf.rmance f.r each agronomical trait (Top 3 varieties). A comparison of.the f.rmer ranking with the ranking based on agronomic measurements revealed similarity and complementary between both methods. This study highlighted the importance of.considering both local and scientif.c knowledge in local varietal evaluations.

Spatio-temporal variability and dynamics in Sahelian agro-pastoral zones make each local situation a special case. These specif.cities must be considered to guide the dissemination of.agricultural options with a view to sustainable development. The territorial scale of.municipalities is not suf.icient f.r this necessary contextualization;the scale of.the “village terroir” seems to be a better option. This is the hypothesis we put f.rward in the f.amework of.the Global Collaboration f.r Resilient f.od Systems program (CRf.), i.e. local context is spatially def.ned by village terroir. The study is based on data collected through participatory mapping and surveys in “village terroirs” in three regions of.Niger (Maradi, Dosso and Tillabéri). Then the links between f.rm managers and their cultivated land, as well as the spatio-temporal dynamics of.local context are analyzed. This study provides evidence of.the existence and f.nctional usef.lness of.the village terroir f.r f.rmers, their land management and their activities. It demonstrates the usef.lness of.contextualizing agricultural options at this scale. Their analysis elucidates the links between “terroirs village” and the specif.c f.nctioning of.the agrosocio-ecosystems acting on each of.them, thus laying the systemic and geographical f.undations f.r a model of.the spatio- temporal dynamics of.“village terroirs”. This initial work has opened up new perspectives in modeling and sustainable development.
