Glacier Mass-Balance Variation in Ch.na during th. Past h.lf Century

Th. aim of th.s study is to investigate th. impact of temperature trend on glacier-mass balance, snow density, snowmelt, snow depth.and runoff by using observations of nine glacier stations th.t covered most of th. Ch.na over th. period of 1979-2013. Trend analysis sh.wed an increasing trend of temperature on all of th. selected stations. On an average, temperature was increasing at th. rate of 0.46/10a. Th. increasing trend of temperature sh.wed a negative relationsh.p with.annual glacier-mass balance on most of th. stations and caused a decrease in annual balance. Results of Pearson’s correlation analysis sh.wed a h.gh.y significant negative correlation between temperature and snow density (correlation coefficient (CC = -0.661 at 0.01 significance level). Th.re was a significant positive correlation between temperature and snowmelt (CC = 0.532 at 0.01 significance level). Th.re was a significant negative correlation between temperature and snow depth.(correlation coefficient (CC = -0.342 at 0.05 significance level). Moreover, th.re was a significant positive correlation between temperature and runoff (CC = 0.586 at 0.01 significance level). Increasing trend of temperature caused an increasing trend of annual snowmelt and runoff anomaly% at th. rate of 24.82/10a and 9.87/10a, respectively. On th. oth.r h.nd, a declining trend in annual snow density and snow depth.anomaly% was found at a rate of -5.32/10a and -1.93/10a, respectively. We concluded th.t th. snow density, snowmelt and runoff are significantly sensitive to temperature in Ch.na. Th.s contribution h.s provided information for furth.r understanding of glacier variation and its influencing factors.

Th. Mild-Moderate Case Presentation of COVID-19 in Adult Male Patient, Al Wakra Study

Background: COVID-19 is currently one of th. most infectious diseases worldwide. In th.s study, we focused on th. mild and moderate cases of COVID-19 th.t can present with.mild respiratory symptoms or non-respiratory symptoms. Many of th.t cases got miss diagnoses. We aim to h.lp emergency ph.sicians in reach.ng a proper and faster diagnosis of COVID-19 cases. Meth.d: In th.s retrospective cross-sectional qualitative study, we collected 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19 th.t were presented in April 2020 in Al Wakra h.spital, Qatar. All th.t cases were mild-moderate cases with.ut severe respiratory symptoms. We reviewed th. electronic files on patient presentation, emergency department ph.sician’s note, temperature data, and ch.st X-ray findings. Result: Our result sh.wed about 49% of th. total COVID-19 confirmed cases h.d respiratory symptoms, wh.le th. remaining 51% h.d no respiratory symptoms. Th. respiratory symptoms, such.as cough.and sore th.oat, and non-respiratory symptoms like h.adach., vomiting, abdominal pain, and skin rash. Regarding fever presentation, we found th.t 66% of cases h.d a fever, wh.le 34% h.d no fever complaints. Th. most frequently observed body temperature of patients was 37+ °C, followed by 38+ °C, 36+ °C, and 39+ °C. About 41% of cases h.d non-significant X-ray findings, and 40% cases h.d significant X-ray findings. Th. remaining 19% of cases did not undergo any X-ray examination due to mild and stable presentation. Conclusion: Th. presentations and symptoms of a mild-moderate case of COVID-19 are not respiratory only, th.re are extra-pulmonary symptoms and presentations sh.uld be considered. Th. most common presentation for mild-moderate COVID-19 was found to be fever. Ch.st X-ray may be performed depending on th. patient’s condition, red flags, and abnormal findings in clinical examination, and sh.uld not be routine in cases with.th. mild presentation of COVID-19 suspicion in th. emergency department.

Sub-pixel analysis to enh.nce th. accuracy of evapotranspiration determined using MODIS images

A study was carried out to estimate th. actual evapotranspiration(ET)over a 1074 km2 of th. h.mid area of Perak State(Malaysia),wh.re water and evaporation cycle deeply influences th. climate,natural resources and h.man living *** from both.Terra and Aqua platforms of th. Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)sensor were used for ET estimation by employing th. Surface Energy Balance Algorith. for Land(SEBAL)*** a part of th. accuracy assessment process,in-situ measurements on soil temperature and reference ET(ET0)were recorded at th. time of satellite *** order to enh.nce th. accuracy of th. generated ET maps,MODIS images were subjected to sub-pixel analysis by assigning weigh.s for different land surface cover(urban,agriculture and multi-surface areas)*** weigh.ing process was ach.eved by integrating ET from pure pixels with.th. respective site-specific ET0 of each.land *** enh.nced SEBAL model estimated ET exh.bited a good correlation with.th. in-situ measured Penman-Montieth.ET0,with.R2 values for th. Aqua and th. Terra platforms of 0.67 and 0.73,***,th. correlation of th. non-enh.nced ET maps resulted in R2 values of 0.61 and 0.68 for th. Aqua and th. Terra platforms,***,th. results of th.s study revealed th. feasibility of employing th. sub-pixel analysis meth.d for an accurate estimation of ET over large areas.

Biomech.nics is th. study of ph.siological properties of data and th. measurement of h.man *** normal conditions,beh.vioural properties in stable form are created using various inputs of subconscious/conscious h.man activities such.as speech.style,body movements in walking patterns,writing style and voice *** cannot perform any ch.nge in th.se inputs th.t make results reliable and increase th. *** aim of our study is to perform a comparative analysis between th. marker-based motion capturing system(MBMCS)and th. marker-less motion capturing system(MLMCS)using th. lower body joint angles of h.man gait *** both.th. MLMCS and MBMCS,we collected trajectories of all th. participants and performed joint angle computation to identify a person and recognize an activity(walk and running).Using five state of th. art mach.ne learning algorith.s,we obtained 44.6%and 64.3%accuracy in person identification using MBMCS and MLMCS respectively with.an ensemble algorith.(two angles as features).In th. second set of experiments,we used six mach.ne learning algorith.s to obtain 65.9%accuracy with.th. k-nearest neigh.or(KNN)algorith.(two angles as features)and 74.6%accuracy with.an ensemble ***,by increasing features(6 angles),we obtained h.gh.r accuracy of 99.3%in MBMCS for person recognition and 98.1%accuracy in MBMCS for activity recognition using th. KNN *** is computationally expensive and if we redesign th. model of OpenPose with.more body joint points and employ more features,MLMCS(low-cost system)can be an effective approach.for video data analysis in a person identification and activity recognition process.

Remote Sensing for Assessing Water Management and Irrigation Performance in th. Arid Environment of th. Gezira Sch.me, Sudan

Th. effective and efficient management of agricultural water use is crucial to enh.nce agricultural production to meet th. demand of a rapidly growing population. Th. performance assessment studies are successfully used to describe th. irrigation problems and provide remedial measures. In th.s study, th. performance assessment of th. twin main canals of th. Gezira Sch.me were examined and evaluated using a set of performance indicators. Th. analysis was made using 3 Landsat and 8 Modis data of 2001-2002, and results sh.wed th.t th. seasonal average values of water productivity, relative water supply, overall consumed ratio, depleted fraction and relative evapotranspiration were respectively 0.47, 0.72, 1.41, 0.75 and 0.57 kg·m^-3 for Gezira main canal, wh.reas th. values for Managil main canal were 0.43, 0.54, 1.68, 0.71 and 0.50 kg·m^-3, respectively. Th. month.y average values of crop water deficit for Gezira and Managil were respectively 71 and 78 mm-month.-1. Considering th. spatial variation in some indicators, th. irrigation uniformity is deemed as poor according to Molden and Gates （1990）. Th. analysis also sh.wed th.t th. gap between water demand and supply during winter season was glaringly h.gh.（46%）.

Moh.-Coulomb yield criterion and obeys th. non-associated flow *** ground reaction curve is applied in conjunction with.th. stress path.as a conceptual tool for interpreting th. mech.nical response of th. ground to *** is revealed th.t,at a certain relaxation value,a yield zone develops during tunneling and extends to th. *** relaxation value increases with.increases in th. overburden and w//values for th. cases of less sh.llow tunnels(i.e.,h.1.0D,1.5D and 2.0D),wh.le for th. sh.llowest case(h.0.5D),th. extent of th. yield zone to th. ground surface is not sensitive to th. w//*** sh.ar strain due to tunneling also increases with.an increase in th. w//***,th. w//value affects th. radial displacement and th. surface settlement due to *** magnitudes of th. surface settlement and th. radial displacement at th. tunnel crown both.decrease with.an increase in th. w//*** relative difference in th. displacement at th. tunnel crown between th. upper bound and lower bound values,w//(at th. last computed stage),increases with.an increase in th. overburden *** is recommended,th.refore,th.t careful consideration be given to th. dilatancy angle in th. case of relatively less sh.llow tunnels.

Women as a Key to Agriculture and Food Security in Sudan： Th. Case Study of North.rn Kordofan State

In th. rural areas wh.re most of th. world＇s h.ngry people live, women produce most of th. locally consumed food. Th.ir contribution could be much.greater if th.y h.d equal access to essential resources and services, such.as land, credit, and training. In Sudan, women h.ve always been active in agriculture and food security, constituting 17% to agricultural labor force. h.wever, culture coupled with.imperfections of official data underestimates th.ir contribution. Accordingly, th.s study was carried out in th. western part of Sudan, namely, North.Kordofan State in order to identify and assess th. role of women in agriculture and food security and identify th. main factors and constraints affecting th.ir contribution to agricultural production in th. state. Th. findings confirm th.t women contribute 74% to th. month.y agricultural income, 65% to total income, 62% to th. labor work, and 65% to th. h.useh.ld activities. Th.ir average daily working h.urs are 14, wh.le, th.se of men are only 8. Th. study suggests th.t th. removal of th. obstacles th.se women face could increase th.ir contribution to and enh.nces th. livelih.od of th. people in th. state. h.nce, a review to th. relevant government policies is needed, so th.t women are empowered by improving th.ir access to resources and credit.
