Bioadsorption of Pb(II) onto <i>Anethum</i><i>graveolens</i>from Contaminated Wastewater: Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies

In the present study we reported the feasibility of the Anethum graveolens as biosorbent to remove Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. Anethum graveolens was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis. The ability of Anethum graveolens to adsorb Pb(II) was investigated by using batch adsorption procedure. The effects such as pH, contact time, adsorbate concentration and biosorbent dosage on the adsorption capacity were studied. The experimental data were analysed using various adsorption kinetic models viz., the pseudo-first and second-order equations, Bangham’s equation, intraparticle diffusion and elovich models. Results show that the pseudo-second-order equation provides the best correlation for the biosorption process. The equilibrium nature of Pb(II) adsorption at 30℃ has been described by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Redlich-Peterson isotherm models. The equilibrium data fit well on Langmuir isotherm. The monolayer adsorption capacity of Pb(II) onto Anethum graveolens as obtained from Langmuir isotherm at 30℃ was found to be 303 mg/g. This high adsorption capacity of Anethum graveolens places this biosorbent as one of the best adsorbents for removal of Pb(II) from aqueous effluents.

Specimens of Clarias gariepinus were treated with lethal(70,75,80,85,90,and 95 mg/L) and sub-lethal concentrations(8,12 and 16 mg/L) of uranyl acetate,a low-radiotoxicity uranium salt. The LC 50 value was registered as 81.45 mg/L. The protein and glycogen concentrations in liver and muscles were decreased in the fish exposed to sub-lethal concentrations. The red blood cell(RBC) and white blood cell(WBC) counts,haemoglobin(Hb) concentration and haematocrit(Hct) values were decreased. Different blood indices like mean corpuscular volume(MCV),mean corpuscular haemoglobin(MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration(MCHC) were negatively affected. Level of plasma glucose was elevated whereas protein was decreased. The level of calcium concentration(Ca) was declined in the blood of exposed fish whereas magnesium(Mg) remains unchanged. The activity level of glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(GPT) was elevated in exposed fish. These effects were more pronounced in the last period of exposure and in higher concentrations. Results of the present study indicate that uranyl acetate has adverse effects on C larias gariepinus and causes changes in the biochemical and hematological parameters of the fish.

Assisted natural remediation(ANR)has been highlighted as a promising,less expensive,and environmentally friendly solution to remediate soil contaminated with heavy *** tested the effects of three amendments(10%compost,C;5 or 15%phosphate sludge,PS5 and PS15;and 5 or 15%marble waste,MW5 and MW15)in combination with microorganism inoculation(rhizobacteria consortium alone,mycorrhizae alone,and the two incombination)on alfalfa in contaminated *** concentrations of Zn,Cu,and Pb were measured,along with proline and malondialdehyde *** microbiological and physicochemical properties of the mining soil were *** of the amendments allowed germination and promoted *** with the rhizobacteria consortium and/or mycorrhizae stimulated plant *** and MW stimulated the production of *** of alfalfa with the rhizobacteria-mycorrhizae mixture and the application of MW allowed the safe cultivation of the legume,as shown by the low concentrations of metals in plant *** and Pb concentrations were below the limits recommended for animal grazing and accumulated essentially in *** analyses showed the positive effect of the amendments on the soil physicochemical *** treatments increased soil p H(around 7),total organic carbon,and assimilable phosphorus ***,an important decrease in soluble heavy metals concentrations was ***,our findings revealed that the applied treatments reduced the risk of metal-polluted soils limiting plant *** ANR has great potential for success in the restoration of polymetallic and acidic mining soils using the interaction between alfalfa,microorganisms,and organomineral amendments.

Long-term varations in beach width of Alexandria Governorate have ben analyzed using two sets of aerial photos taken in 1955 and 1983. The analysis reveals that a major part of most beaches has been subjecded to coastal erosion except for only beaches. The esthated long-term rate of erosion is approxima.ely 0. 20 m/*** Maamoura, located east of Alexandria is selected to evaluate seasonal vacations. Sand volume lOsses are found to be 450 m3/ (m. a) for the entire beach length (1. 2 km). The annual sand transport by wind is estimated as about 37.7 m3. Subtracting this amount of sand from the net sand loss 450 m3/ (cm. a) yields 412.3 m3/(cm. a) of eroded sand caused by the action of currents and waves.

Land use and land cover (LULC) represent the ongoing challenge of environmental variation. The understanding of the level and process of its change is the basis for any environmental planning and management. In Morocco, as everywhere in the world, human population densities are constantly increasing on the coastal zones. This results in a continuous and rapid acceleration of the use of coastal space and an increase in pressures on ecosystems and the different species they contain. The purpose of this study is the analysis of the changes in LULC from 1985 to 2017 in the coastal area of Sebou estuary, situated in the Northwest of the Moroccan Atlantic coast. The changes were identified and assessed after classifying a series of Landsat images taken during 1985, 2002 and 2017. The algorithm used for the classification is the Support Vector Machine (SVM), which yielded results with accuracy higher than 85%. The results of the land use land cover change describe phenomenal urbanization and deforestation, as well as an evolution of the agricultural sector, indicating the impact of anthropization in this vulnerable environment.

Geographical Information System (GIS) can be considered the core of the Interactive Facilities Management Environment (iFaME) framework in managing different facilities on the building bases. This study aims at building a comprehensive geodatabase for different elements of infrastructure facilities and services on the building bases for a selected number of schools and developing a GIS-based iFaME interactive application to manage different facilities at the school level in Kuwait. The iFaME is a two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) desktop application. It is intended to take planners, decision makers, and maintenance experts inside the building to provide an interactive GIS platform to manage, visualize, query, maintain, and update the database related to school assets and facilities. The Autodesk Revit software was used to produce 3D building information models (BIM) for the selected schools. It provides accurate geometrical representation of the school building elements in an integrated data environment. The iFaME application is integrated with the Revit BIM models and the STAR-APIC elyx 3D software solution. With the development of the iFaME applications, the facility managers in the MoE could establish greater control over the space allocation and management, asset management, emergency planning, and other areas of facility management. The school managers and maintenance engineers are considered among the most beneficiaries from this application. The school managers will monitor the maintenance activities all the time, while the maintenance engineers will use the application as a container for maintenance orders, and on the same time to document what they accomplished on daily basis. The iFaME application will reduce the maintenance cost of school assets and facilities in addition to increase their efficiency.

A Cubic Spline Method for Solving a Unilateral Obstacle Problem

This paper, we develop a numerical method for solving a unilateral obstacle problem by using the cubic spline collocation method and the generalized Newton method. This method converges quadratically if a relation-ship between the penalty parameter and the discretization parameter h is satisfied. An error estimate between the penalty solution and the discret penalty solution is provided. To validate the theoretical results, some numerical tests on one dimensional obstacle problem are presented.

The energy market in Libya is expected to face substantial changes in the next few years:electrical energy consumption will increase by 50% within the next 4 ***,there is a plan to gradually increase renewable energy sources in the power network by 2030 to 30%.Solar photovoltaic(PV)plants will play a significant role in the energy transition and the mix of energy sources in *** article is a study conducted to investigate the challenges of power-flow management and power protection from integrating PV power plants into the Libyan power *** particular,a simulation model is built for the Kufra PV power plant(10 MW)with eight buses to assess the power network performance in terms of power quality such as voltage profile,power losses and ***,the impact of the PV plant on the short-circuit level and the power-protection system is presented under different operating *** fault ride-through(FRT)is operated using standard ambient temperature and a wide range of irradiation intensity,and is verified by using the Libyan grid *** results show that the integration of the PV plant into the grid has a significant impact on the short-circuit level and the FRT over the different fault levels and locations on the *** initial period of the three-phase fault shows that the PV plant will be disconnected from the grid due to a decrease in the root mean square value voltages where the reactive and active power of the grid reach 938 MVAR and 261 MW,*** results show that increasing the fault level will lead to an increase in injecting the active *** work is considered the first extensive investigation into the challenges of modern power-flow management and power protection for the power network system in Libya.
