Acute variceal bleeding in patients with.liver cirrh.sis and portal h.pertension(Ph.) is th. most serious emergency complication among th.se patients and could h.ve catastroph.c outcomes if not timely managed. Early screening by esoph.go-gastro-duodenoscopy(EGD) for th. presence of esoph.geal varices(EVs) is currently recommended by th. practice guidelines for all cirrh.tic patients. Meanwh.le, EGD is not readily accepted or preferred by many patients. Th. literature is rich.in studies to investigate and validate non-invasive markers of EVs prediction aiming at reducing th. unneeded endoscopic procedures. Gallbladder(GB) wall th.ckness(GBWT) measurement h.s been found promising in many publish.d research.articles. We aim to h.gh.igh. th. validity of sonograph.c GBWT measurement in th. prediction of EVs based on th. available evidence. We search.d databases including Coch.ane library, Pub Med, Web of Science and many oth.rs for relevant articles. GBWT is associated with.th. presence of EVs in cirrh.tic patients with.Ph. of different etiologies. Th. cut-off of GBWT th.t can predict th. presence of EVs varied in th. literature and ranges from 3.1 mm to 4.35 mm with.variable sensitivities of 46%-90.9% and lower cutoffs in viral cirrh.sis compared to non-viral, h.wever GBWT > 4 mm in many studies is associated with.acceptable sensitivity up to 90%. Furth.rmore, a relation was also noticed with.th. degree of varices and portal h.pertensive *** cirrh.tics, GBWT > 3.5 mm predicts th. presence of advanced(grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ) EVs with.a sensitivity of 45%, th. sensitivity increased to 92% wh.n a cut-off ≥ 3.95 mm was used in anoth.r coh.rt. Analysis of th.se results sh.uld carefully be revised in th. context of ascites, h.poalbuminemia and oth.r intrinsic GB diseases among cirrh.tic patients. Th. sensitivity for prediction of EVs improved upon combining GBWT measurement with.oth.r non-invasive predictors, e.g., platelets/GBWT.

Polycrystalline cobalt-substituted tungsten bronze ferroelectric ceramics with.ch.mical composition Ba_(5)CaTi_(2-x)Co_(X)Nb_(8)O_(30)(x=0.00,0.02,0.04 and 0.08)were synth.sized by solid state reaction tech.ique.X-ray diffraction(XRD)tech.ique was used to confirm th. ph.se formation and it revealed th. formation of single ph.se tetragonal structure with.space group *** surface morph.logy of th. samples was studied by using th. scanning electron microscopy(SEM)*** dielectric properties such.as dielectric constant and dielectric loss h.ve been investigated as a function of temperature and *** P-E and M-h.studies confirmed th. coexistent of ferroelectricity and magnetism at room *** P-E loop study indicated an increase in th. coercive field wh.le th. M-h.study depicted a decrease in th. magnetization with.th. incorporation of cobalt ions.

Milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) ph.sph.lipids-based nanostructures were developed and th.ir functionalization with.rh.mnolipids (RLs) was carried out to enh.nce th. preservation of ch.ese against resistant foodborne path.gens i.e.,Listeria monocytogenes and Esch.rich.a coli .Void (with.ut nisin) and nisin-loaded RLs functionalized MFGM nanostructures (RLs-MFGM-NS) were fabricated by ultrasonication-assisted self-assembly *** morph.logy of void and loaded RLs-MFGM-NS and pristine MFGM nanostructures (MFGM-NS) was observed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM),wh.ch.indicated uniform size ranging from 43 nm (void RLs-MFGM-NS) to 194 nm (loaded RLs-MFGM-NS).FTIR analyses confirmed th. electrostatic interaction,predominantly h.bonding and linkage of carboxyl ester group of MFGM with.C–h.group in RLs after functionalization of ***,quantitative antimicrobial assay on ch.ese slices confirmed th. broad-spectrum potential of intrinsically active nanostructures (due to RLs) h.ving synergistic activity with.nisin against *** and *** .h.nce,nisin-loaded RLs-MFGM-NS can be applied as promising bioactive additives for sustained preservation of ch.ese.

Th. present investigation assessed th. effect of acid etch.ng on marginal adaptation of wh.te- and gray-colored mineral trioxide aggregate （MTA） to apical dentin using microcomputed tomograph. （micro-CT） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. Sixty-four extracted single-rooted h.man maxillary teeth.were used. Following root-end resection and apical preparation, th. teeth.were equally divided into four groups according to th. following root end filling materials：（i） wh.te-colored MTA （WMTA）, （ii） etch.d WMTA （EWMTA）, （iii） gray-colored MTA （GMTA） and （iv） etch.d GMTA （EGMTA）. After 48 h. th. interface between root-end filling materials and th. dentinal walls was assessed using micro-CT and SEM. Data were statistically analyzed using th. KruskaI-Wallis and Dunn tests. Micro-CT analysis revealed gap volumes between th. apical cavity dentin walls and EGMTA, GMTA, EWMTA and WMTA of （0.007 1±0.004） mm3, （0.053±0.002） mm3, （0.003 6±0.001） mm3 and （0.005 9±0.002） mm3 respectively. SEM analysis revealed gap sizes for EGMTA, WMTA, EWMTA and GMTA to be （492.3±13.8） μm, （594.5±17.12）μm, （543.1±15.33） μm and （910.7±26.2）μm respectively. A significant difference in gap size between root end preparations filled with.GMTA and EGMTA was found （P〈O.05）. No significance difference in gap size between WMTA and EWMTA were found in eith.r SEM or micro-CT analysis. In conclusion, pre-etch.ng of apical dentin can provide a better seal for GMTA but not for WMTA.

Facile and fast combustion meth.d was used to synth.size Zn O and Ce-doped Zn O（CZO） nanocrystalline powders ph.tocatalysts with.different cerium concentrations（0.5 wt.%–10.0 wt.%） followed by calcination at 700 oC for 3 h. Th. prepared samples were ch.racterized by a variety of ch.racterization tech.iques such.as X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM） combined with.energy dispersive X-ray diffraction（EDX）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, UV-visible spectroscopy, BET surface area analyser and ph.toluminescence spectroscopy（PL）, to study th. crystal structure, surface morph.logy, ch.mical composition and optical properties. It was observed from XRD results th.t synth.sized powders h.d h.xagonal wurtzite structure with.th. smallest crystallite size about 13 nm. Absorption spectra sh.wed th.t cerium doping enh.nced th. ligh. absorption properties towards th. visible ligh. region. Ph.toluminescence spectra for Ce-doped Zn O samples exh.bited relatively weak near band edge（NBE） emission peaks as compared to th.t of pristine Zn O. Th. ph.tocatalytic activities of th. prepared samples were evaluated by ph.tocatalytic degradation of Rh.damine B（Rh.B） under UV ligh. and visible ligh.（λ≥420 nm） irradiation. Th. textile mill effluent containing organic matters was also treated under sunligh. using ph.tocatalysis and th. reduction in th. ch.mical oxygen demand（COD） of th. treated effluent revealed a complete destruction of th. organic molecules along with.colour removal. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. CZO ph.tocatalyst doped with.3.0 wt.% cerium exh.bited four times enh.nced ph.tocatalytic activity compared to pure Zn O. Th. enh.nced ph.tocatalytic activity could be attributed to extended visible ligh. absorption and inh.bition of th. electron-h.le pair＇s recombination.

Both.cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation are cerebrovascular disease, wh.ch.required immediate diagnosis and urgent treatment. Since th. introduction of multislice CT scanners, CT angiograph. (CTA) h.s become a powerful tool for imaging th. vascular system. Th. goal of th.s study is to compare cath.ter based angiograph. and CTA in th. evaluation of cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation AVM. A retrospective analysis of 50 patients for exploring th. record of patient wh. underwent both.multislice CT angiograph. (MSCTA) and cath.ter based angiograph. before treatment is presented during last one year in th. department of Radiology, King Fah. h.spital-Jeddah. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Th. sensitivity of CTA for picking up aneurysm is 86% and th. sensitivity of cath.ter based angiograph. for picking up aneurysm is 97%. Th. specificity of CTA for picking up aneurysm is (76%), th. false positive cases are (3%) and th. false negative cases are 10%. Th. sensitivity of both.CTA and cath.ter based angiograph. for picking up arteriovenous malformation is (90%). Th. specificity of CTA for picking up AVM is (76%), th. false positive cases are (10%) and no false negative cases in CTA are found. Th. sensitivity and specificity of cath.ter based angiograph. is 100% in diagnosis and detection of cerebral arterial aneurysm and AVM. Th. present study concluded th.t CTA h.s h.gh.sensitivity and specificity in detecting aneurysm and AVM enough.to be ch.sen as th. first step. Cath.ter based angiograph., still a gold standard for radiology examination, is th. most accurate, sensitive and specific meth.d in diagnosis and detection of cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation, wh.ch.can be done as th. second step. In addition, cath.ter based angiograph. is done for treatment planning, treatment with.interventional procedure and for prognosis after treatment.
