Assessment of ecological risk for heavy metals in surface sediment of an urban river in a developing country

The speed of increasing threats to the riverine water resources makes it more critical to protect the health of Old Brahmaputra River *** current study was done to investigate the concentrations,distributions,sources,and ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediment from the Old Brahmaputra River,*** were collected from seven sites and analyzed with an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer(ICP-MS).The results showed that mean concentrations(mg/kg) of heavy metals were in the order of nickel(Ni)(44.69)> chromium(Cr)(30.16)> lead(Pb)(19.31)>copper(Cu)(17.84)> cadmium(Cd)(3.94)> arsenic(As)(2.73).The contamination factor(CF),pollution load index(PLI),enrichment factor(EF),and geo-accumulation index(Igeo) indicated low to moderate *** unit analysis revealed that the studied metals from all stations posed low *** sediment of the study river was uncontaminated to moderately contaminated,posing a minimal ecological ***,Cr,Ni,and Pb originated from anthropogenic sources rather than geogenic sources,and caused the severity of *** this regard,pollutant-based intensive monitoring of heavy metals and holistic ecological risk assessments are required to maintain a sound and healthy aquatic environment in the river.

Nowadays,magnesium alloys are emerging in biomedical implants for their similar properties to natural ***,the rapid degradation of magnesium alloys in biological media hinders successful *** of microstructure,as well as reinforcement particles can significantly improve the degradation *** this work,multi-pass friction stir processing(FSP)was proposed to synthesize WE43/nano-hydroxyapatite(n HA)surface composite,the microstructure,reinforced particle distribution,micro-hardness,corrosion behavior and in-vitro bioactivity were *** subsequent FSP passes of WE43 alloy and WE43/n HA composite refined the grain size which was reduced by 94.29%and 95.92%(2.63 and 1.88μm,respectively)compared to base metal after three *** resulted in increasing the microhardness by 120%(90.86 HV0.1)and 135%(105.59 HV0.1)for the WE43 and WE43-n HA,*** is found that increasing FSP passes improved the uniform distribution of n HA particles within the composite matrix which led to improved corrosion resistance and less degradation *** corrosion rate of the FSPed WE43/n HA composite after three passes was reduced by 38.2%(4.13 mm/year)and the degradation rate was reduced by 69.7%(2.87 mm/y).This is attributed to secondary phase(Mg24Y5and Mg41Nd5)particle fragmentation and redistribution,as well as a homogeneous distribution of n ***,the growing Ca-P and Mg(OH)2layer formed on the surface represented a protective layer that reduced the degradation *** wettability test revealed a relatively hydrophilic surface with water contact angle of 49.1±2.2°compared to 71.2±2.1°for base ***,biomineralization test showed that apatite layer grew after immersion 7d in simulated body fluid with atomic ratio of Ca/P 1.60 approaching the stoichiometric ratio(1.67)indicating superior bioactivity of FSPed WE43/n HA composite after three *** results raise that the grain refinement by FSP and introduction of n HA partic

Spinel ferrites exhibit exceptional magnetic properties,making them a distinctive class of magnetic *** sol-gel technique was utilized for the synthesis of spinel ferrites with the chemical formula Co_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Ce_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4). Mobile computing has fast emerged as a pervasive technology to replace the old computing paradigms with portable computation and context-aware *** software systems can be migrated(while preserving their data and logic)to mobile computing platforms that support portability,context-sensitivity,and enhanced *** recent years,some research and development efforts have focused on a systematic migration of existing software systems to mobile computing *** investigate the research state-of-the-art on the migration of existing software systems to mobile computing *** aim to analyze the progression and impacts of existing research,highlight challenges and solutions that reflect dimensions of emerging and futuristic *** followed evidence-based software engineering(EBSE)method to conduct a systematic mapping study(SMS)of the existing research that has progressed over more than a decade(25 studies published from 1996–2017).We have derived a taxonomical classification and a holistic mapping of the existing research to investigate its progress,impacts,and potential areas of futuristic research and *** SMS has identified three types of migration namely Static,Dynamic,and State-based Migration of existing software systems to mobile computing *** to mobile computing platforms enables existing software systems to achieve portability,context-sensitivity,and high ***,mobile systems may face some challenges such as resource poverty,data security,and *** emerging and futuristic research aims to support patterns and tool support to automate the migration *** results of this SMS can benefit researchers and practitioners-by highlighting challenges,solutions,and tools,etc.,-to conceptualize the state-of-the-art and futuristic trends that support migration of existing software to mobile computing.

Analytical Investigation of Soliton Solutions to Three Quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov Equations

In the present paper, the two-dimensional quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov(QZK) equation, three-dimensional quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation and the three-dimensional modified quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation are analytically investigated for exact solutions using the modified extended tanh-expansion based method. A variety of new and important soliton solutions are obtained including the dark soliton solution, singular soliton solution, combined dark-singular soliton solution and many other trigonometric function solutions. The used method is implemented on the Mathematica software for the computations as well as the graphical illustrations.

A survey on trust based detection and isolation of malicious nodes in ad-hoc and sensor networks

Mobile ad-hoc networks （MANETs） and wireless sensor networks （WSNs） have gained remarkable apprecia- tion and technological development over the last few years. Despite ease of deployment, tremendous applications and significant advantages, security has always been a challeng- ing issue due to the nature of environments in which nodes operate. Nodes＇ physical capture, malicious or selfish behav- ior cannot be detected by traditional security schemes. Trust and reputation based approaches have gained global recog- nition in providing additional means of security for decision making in sensor and ad-hoc networks. This paper provides an extensive literature review of trust and reputation based models both in sensor and ad-hoc networks. Based on the mechanism of trust establishment, we categorize the state- of-the-art into two groups namely node-centric trust mod- els and system-centric trust models. Based on trust evidence, initialization, computation, propagation and weight assign- ments, we evaluate the efficacy of the existing schemes. Fi- nally, we conclude our discussion with identification of some unresolved issues in pursuit of trust and reputation manage- ment.

Moisture and Temperature Response of Structural and Lithology based Thermophysical and Energy Saving Traits of Limestone using Experimental and Least-Square Fitting Methods

Thermophysical analysis of the crustal rocks is important for heat transfer determination and insulation purposes to save energy in *** the presented work,thermophysical properties of four limestones were investigated in dry and moist state under ambient conditions by using a transient plane source method.A thermal constant analyzer was used to raise the sample temperature and to measure the thermal properties in the temperature range of 300 K to 433 *** conductivity and diffusivity were measured by developing a linear relationship between temperature response of TPS (transient plane source) sensor and dimensionless time function through least-square fitting *** experimental observations and predicted thermal conductivity of samples have shown that in-situ observations are important to determine the thermal properties *** effect of temperature on thermal properties of limestone was defined by considering the chemical composition of the samples and associated heat transfer *** thermal conductivity and diffusivity of limestone decreased while specific heat capacity increased with a rise in *** overall findings indicate that the spinoff of this research is useful in studying the reliance of thermophysical properties of rocks on their structures and lithology.

Infections caused by Strongyloides stercoralis(***) in human are generally asymptomatic,however in immunocompromised individual,hyperinfection may develop with dissemination of larvae to extra-intestinal *** diagnosis could be easily missed due to asymptomatic presentation and insufficient exposure towards the infection itself,which may lead to low index of suspicion as a *** this report,a case of a Malaysian male with underlying diabetes mellitus,hypertension,cerebrovascular accident,bullous pemphigus and syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion who initially complained of generalized body weakness and poor appetite without any history suggestive of sepsis is ***,he developed septicemic shock later,and *** larvae was incidentally found in the tracheal aspirate that was sent to look for acid fast *** of aggressive resuscitation,the patient succumbed due to pulmonary hemorrhage and acute respiratory distress *** was revealed that the current case has alarmed us via incidental finding of *** larvae in the tracheal aspirate,indicating that the importance of the disease should be emphasized in certain parts of the world and population respectively.

Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)are an integral part of the Internet of Things(IoT)and are widely used in a plethora of ***,sensor networks operate in harsh environments where human intervention is often restricted,which makes battery replacement for sensor nodes *** failure due to battery drainage or harsh environmental conditions poses serious challenges to the connectivity of the *** a connectivity restoration mechanism,node failures ultimately lead to a network partition,which affects the basic function of the sensor ***,the research community actively concentrates on addressing and solving the challenges associated with connectivity restoration in sensor *** energy is a scarce resource in sensor networks,it becomes the focus of research,and researchers strive to propose new solutions that are energy *** common issue that is well studied and considered is how to increase the network’s life span by solving the node failure problem and achieving efficient energy *** paper introduces a Clusterbased Node Recovery(CNR)connectivity restoration mechanism based on the concept of *** is a well-known mechanism in sensor networks,and it is known for its energy-efficient operation and *** proposed technique utilizes a distributed cluster-based approach to identify the failed nodes,while Cluster Heads(CHs)play a significant role in the restoration of *** simulations were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed technique and compare it with the existing *** simulation results show that the proposed technique efficiently addresses node failure and restores connectivity by moving fewer nodes than other existing connectivity restoration *** proposed mechanism also yields an improved field coverage as well as a lesser number of packets exchanged as compared to existing state-of-the-art mechanisms.

Metamaterial Antennas are a type of antenna that uses metamaterial to enhance *** bandwidth restriction associated with small antennas can be solved using metamaterial *** learning is gaining popularity as a way to improve solutions in a range of *** learning approaches are currently a big part of current research,and they’re likely to be huge in the *** model utilized determines the accuracy of the prediction in large *** goal of this paper is to develop an optimized ensemble model for forecasting the metamaterial antenna’s bandwidth and *** basic models employed in the developed ensemble are Support Vector Regression(SVR),K-NearestRegression(KNR),Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP),Decision Trees(DT),and Random Forest(RF).The percentages of contribution of these models in the ensemble model are weighted and optimized using the dipper throated optimization(DTO)*** choose the best features from the dataset,the binary(bDTO)algorithm is *** proposed ensemble model is compared to the base models and results are recorded and analyzed *** addition,two other ensembles are incorporated in the conducted experiments for *** ensembles are average ensemble and K-nearest neighbors(KNN)-based *** comparison is performed in terms of eleven evaluation *** evaluation results confirmed the superiority of the proposed model when compared with the basic models and the other ensemble models.
