Generation and Propagation of Tsunami by a Moving Realistic Curvilinear Slide Shape with Variable Velocities in Linearized Shallow-Water Wave Theory

The process of tsunami evolution during its generation under the effect of the variable velocities of realistic submarine landslides based on a two-dimensional curvilinear slide model is investigated. Tsunami generation from submarine gravity mass flows is described in three stages. The first stage represented by a rapid curvilinear down and uplift faulting with rise time. The second stage represented by a unilaterally propagation in the positive x direction to a significant length to produce curvilinear two-dimensional models represented by a depression slump, and a displaced accumulation slide model. The last stage represented by the time variation in the velocity of the accumulation slide (block slide). By using transforms method, Laplace in time and Fourier in space, tsunami waveforms within the frame of the linearized shallow water theory for constant water depth are analyzed analytically for the movable source model. Effect of the water depths on the amplification factor of the tsunami generation by the submarine slump and slide for different propagation lengths and widths has been studied and the results are plotted. Comparison of tsunami peak amplitudes is discussed for different propagation lengths, widths and water depths. In addition, we demonstrated the tsunami propagation waveforms after the slide stops moving at different propagation times.

Assessment and Modelling of the Radiation Behaviour through Atmosphere for North Eastern Part of Egypt

The aim of this work is the assessment of the behavior of the radiation over studied area at the different seasons of the year using mathematical model. To achieve this purpose, the dispersion factor has been calculated. The calculated dispersion factor gives an indication about the behavior and the distribution of pollutants in the atmosphere. Since the used model requires specific measuring hourly metrological data over long periods of time at least one year such as wind speed, incoming solar, radiation and wind direction for studied area. Also terrain information and population distribution should be taken into consideration. The atmospheric parameters such as monthly wind rose, hourly stability classes and joint frequency have been determined using developed computer programs. The results of wind rose shown that the prevailing wind direction for studied area is northeast direction in winter. This situation give us a primary knowledge about months (months of winter) at which the studied area may be affected by the air coming from the east borders. The results of dispersion factor indicate that the sectors S, SSE and SE for the studying area are greatly exposed to air which may be polluted.

Estimation of Atmospheric Stability Classification for the North Coast of Egypt

Studies of atmospheric dispersion are essential to both the site selection of a nuclear power plant and the evaluation of the environmental impacts of nuclear operations. Atmospheric stability plays the most important role in the dispersion of air pollutants. The focus of attention in the present study is the estimation of the degree of stability of the atmosphere for the north coast of Egypt to evaluate the ability of the atmosphere to disperse pollutants. A FORTRAN program (Appendix 1) is presented to determine atmospheric stability using the Pasquill-Tunner Method PTM, which defines the turbulent state of the atmosphere and also reflects upon the dispersion capabilities of the atmosphere at the site. This method used several meteorological factors such as wind speed, insulation, cloud cover height and type. Meteorological data from Matrouh stations in Egypt is applied for a simulated model. The total patterns of stability classification, both monthly and seasonal patterns, are determined, also the stability-wind rose and stability-wind summary are provided. Finally prediction of Iodine surface air concentration is reported as well as the annual effective dose for I-131 as a case study.
