As rice consumption increases,ensuring its safety has become a priority for the food *** address this concern,the industry is exploring a single-pass microbial inactivation treatment at the rough rice *** this study,a long-grain rice variety,RT7321[21.2%wet basis(WB)and a 20 mm bed thickness]was exposed to microwave radiation(915 MHz frequency)at powers of 16,18,and 20 kW for durations of 1,2,and 3 *** found that the highest microwave power(20 kW)and the longest exposure duration(3 min)produced the greatest reduction in total aerobic count and total fungal count,reducing them by up to 1.21 and 5.01 log(CFU/g),*** findings provided insights into the used to high-power,shortduration 915 MHz microwave technology for decontamination purposes in rough rice to help improve the microbial safety of *** aim is to develop a single-pass drying approach for microbial inactivation in rice processing facilities while ensuring that the yield and quality is not compromised.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory process affecting the pancreas. Hypertriglyceridemic AP (HTAP) is its third leading cause after gallstones followed by alcohol use. It develops when stars align viz. triggers (acquired surges) in patients with genetic hypertriglyceridemia. Case: severe and acute pancreatitis had developed in a 57-year-old man with type IIb familial hyperlipidemia after heavy fatty meals. The acute phase was controlled by holding oral intake with weekly Evolocumab therapy and long-term prevention by weight reduction and Fenofibrate alone. His pancreatic endocrine and exocrine functions remained normal after 2 years of follow-up. Conclusion: Those four measures were safe, practical and effective for short- and long-term management of HTAP.

Land Use and Gully Dynamics in the Kourfa Watershed, Matankari (Southwest Niger)

The main consequences of climate change in the Sahel have been the metamorphosis of surface conditions. These metamorphoses have resulted in surface degradation, of which silting up of watersheds is the main phenomenon. The objective of this study is to assess the environmental trends of the Kourfa pond watershed. The study is based on diachronic mapping with Landsat satellite images and Google Earth images, over the period 1986 to 2021. The study reveals that vegetation (whose rate of regression doubled between 1986 and 2021) has decreased to the benefit of crop areas (whose rate of increase multiplied by 3.61 between 1986 and 2021). Bare soil and encrusted areas have also decreased, with regression rates almost double than those of 1986. In addition, the Kourfa waterholes have experienced two types of changes over 35 years: one progressive between 2011 and 2016 and the other regressive between 2001 and 2021 compared to 1986. The ravine network has been multiplied by a factor of 2.4, with density more than doubled and the connectivity of the hydrographic networks has risen from 2 to 4, with significant bank recession. This dynamic of the Kourfa pond is linked to the high drainage, the increasing complexity of the gully network and the erosion due to the retreat of the watershed banks, all of which contribute to the silting-up of the Kourfa watershed.

Objective: To compare diagnostic accuracy and agreement between direct agglutination test and rK39 rapid tests for diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in an endemic area, the Doka area in Eastern ***: Stored sera of confirmed visceral leishmaniasis cases, unconfirmed visceral leishmaniasis-suspects and negative controls were tested by direct agglutination test and rK39 rapid test. The sera were collected from the Doka area in Eastern Sudan. Diagnostic accuracy of direct agglutination test and rK39 rapid test was assessed in terms of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value, estimated at 95% confidence interval(CI). Agreement between the two tests was determined by the kappa(κ) ***: Taking lymph node aspiration of Leishmania as a gold standard, direct agglutination test showed 91.0% sensitivity, 99.3% specificity, resulting in a positive and negative predictive value of 99.3% and 91.0%, respectively. In contrast, the sensitivity of rK39 rapid test was 85.2% and specificity 98.6%, resulting in a positive and negative predictive value of 98.5% and 85.9%, respectively. Most(81.3%) of the confirmed visceral leishmaniasis sera revealed strong antibody titers(≥1:6 400). Some sera(n=5) that were positively tested with rK39 rapid test were negative in direct agglutination test(≤1:800);in contrast, direct agglutination test was positive in 12 confirmed visceral leishmaniasis sera that were negatively tested with rK39 rapid test. There was moderate to good agreement between direct agglutination test and rK39 rapid test for confirmed visceral leishmaniasis patients(κ=0.42, 95% CI=0.21-0.63) and control sera(κ=0.80, 95% CI=0.41-1.00).Conclusions: Both direct agglutination test and rK39 rapid test are satisfactory test systems for visceral leishmaniasis diagnosis in East Sudan. Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and has a remarkable social and economical impact, which rises with the increasing age of the industrial population. Unfortunately, treatment strat- egies for cerebral ischemia still remain very limited. Acute reper- fusion therapies with either systemic thrombolysis using rt-PA （recombinant tissue plasminogen activator） or interventional recanalization procedures were shown to be highly effective. In addition, there is also a long-existing concept to modulate stroke-associated pathophysiological events such as exitotox- icity, peri-infarct depolarizations, apoptosis and inflammation （Dirnagl et al., 1999）.

Biomimetics provides us a new perspective to understand complex biological process and strategy to fabricate functional materials. However,a great challenge still remains to design and fabricate biomimetic materials using a facile but effective method. Here, we develop a biomimetic light harvesting architecture based on one-step co-assembly of amphiphilic amino acid and porphyrin. Amphiphilic amino acid can self-assemble into nanofibers via π-stacking and hydrogen binding interactions. Negatively charged porphyrin adsorbs on the surface of the assembled nanofibers through electrostatic force, and the nanofibers further organize into porous urchin-like microspheres induced presumably by hydrophobic interaction. The assembled amphiphilic amino acid nanofibers work as a template to tune the organization of porphyrin with an architecture principle analogous to natural light harvesting complex. The co-assembled microspheres exhibit enhanced light capture due to the light reflection in the porous structure. Reaction center(platinum nanoparticles) can be effectively coupled with the light harvesting microspheres via photoreduction. After visible light illumination, hydrogen evolution occurs on the hybrid microspheres.

Amorphous/crystalline n-n-isotype Si heterojunetions are made by a pulsed Q-switched second harmonic generation Nd：YAG laser. The process includes melting and subsequently fast resolidification of a thin front layer of monocrystalline Si by laser pulses to create an amorphous layer （phase transition）. Different laser energy densities are used to form the amorphous layer on a monocrystalline Si substrate, the results of the electrical characteristics of the heterojunctions are dependent strongly on the laser energy density. Optoelectronic properties such as current-voltage, capacitance voltage, and spectral sensitivity are measured in a-Si/c-Si hereto junctions （in the absence of anti-reflecting coating and frontal grid contact） prepared by different laser energy densities. The built-in-potential values extracted from current-voltage measurements are close to the published results of （n-p） amorphous/crystalline hereto junction made by glow discharge and plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition. Furthermore, examination of the formation of amorphous pattern on Si surface is carried out with the help of optical microscopy. Best photovoltaic performance is recognized to be at ,5.6 J/cm^2. The photodetector shows a wide spectral response, and the peak response is at 780nm. On the other hand, this peak is independent of laser energy.

Zinc-doped CdS nanoparticles synthesized by microwave-assisted deposition

Cd1-xZnxS nanoparticles were grown on pre-cleaned glass substrates using microwave-assisted chemical bath deposition technique. Nanoparticles obtained by this method were smooth, uniform, good adherent, brownish yellow in color where the brightness of the yellow color nature decreases with increasing Zn^2＋ content. The elemental composition analysis confirmed that the nanoparticles comprise ofCd^2＋, Zn^2＋ and S^2-. Scanning elec- tron microscope images confirmed the surface uniformity of the Cdl-xZnxS nanoparticles devoid of any void, pinhole or cracks and covered the substrate well. The particle size also decreases with increasing Zn ion content. X-ray diffraction （XRD） indicates the hexagonal structure （002） without phase transition. The grain size decreases from 36.45 to 9.60 nm, dislocation density increases from 0.000745 to 0.01085 Line^2/m^2 and lattice parameter decreased from 6.868 to 6.155 nm with increasing Zn^2＋ content. The best transmittance of about 95% was achieved for x = 1.0. The nanoparticles showed reduction in the absorbance as Zn ion content increased. Four point probe revealed that the electrical resistivity increased from 1.51×10^10 to 6.67×10^10Ω·cm while electrical conductivity decreases from 6.62×10^-11 to 1.49×10^-11 （Ω·cm）-1 with increasing Zn2＋ content. The other electrical prop- erties such as sheet resistance increased from 1.52×10^8 to 1.58×10^8Ω, charge carrier mobility decreased from 0.777 to 0.0105 cm^2/（V.s） and charge carrier density increased from 1.06×10^12 to 3.95×10^12 cm^-3.
