Taman Saujana Hijau(TSH),Putrajaya is a 41-ha urban park planted with various coniferous species from around the *** pests and disease incidences of this park are unknown and there is a need for an evaluation of the health status of this urban *** study assessed the level of pest and disease incidents of coniferous species in 12 plots of 7 species(Araucaria bidwilii,Araucaria haterophylla,Araucaria cunninghamii,Pinus caribaea,Pinus merkusii,Podocarpus polystachyus,and Podocarpus costalis).Termites,canker disease,and foliar disease are three major *** highest pest and disease incidence(PnDI)was foliar disease with a 0.49 coefficient correlation between the total number of trees and the PnDI,followed by canker disease with 0.40,and termites with *** the seven conifers,*** was the most infected followed by *** and *** was concluded that the incidence of pests and diseases in TSH was *** our knowledge,this may be the first baseline inventory of pests and diseases of coniferous species in Malaysia.

Antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles(Zn O-NPs) has received significant interest worldwide particularly by the implementation of nanotechnology to synthesize particles in the nanometer region. Many microorganisms exist in the range from hundreds of nanometers to tens of micrometers. Zn O-NPs exhibit attractive antibacterial properties due to increased specific surface area as the reduced particle size leading to enhanced particle surface reactivity. Zn O is a bio-safe material that possesses photo-oxidizing and photocatalysis impacts on chemical and biological species. This review covered Zn O-NPs antibacterial activity including testing methods, impact of UV illumination, Zn O particle properties(size, concentration, morphology, and defects), particle surface modification, and minimum inhibitory concentration. Particular emphasize was given to bactericidal and bacteriostatic mechanisms with focus on generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) including hydrogen peroxide(H2O2), OH-(hydroxyl radicals), and O2-2(peroxide). ROS has been a major factor for several mechanisms including cell wall damage due to Zn O-localized interaction, enhanced membrane permeability, internalization of NPs due to loss of proton motive force and uptake of toxic dissolved zinc *** have led to mitochondria weakness, intracellular outflow, and release in gene expression of oxidative stress which caused eventual cell growth inhibition and cell death. In some cases, enhanced antibacterial activity can be attributed to surface defects on Zn O abrasive surface texture. One functional application of the Zn O antibacterial bioactivity was discussed in food packaging industry where Zn O-NPs are used as an antibacterial agent toward foodborne diseases. The genetic population structure of red snapper Lutjanus malabaricus and orange-spotted grouper Epinepheluscoiodes in Brunei and Sabah was investigated using allozyme electrophoresis. Samples were collected from threesites in Brunei for E. coiodes and from three sites in Brunei and Sabah for L. malabaricus. A total of 22 loci and 16loci were scored, respectively. The index of fixation (FST) for the E. coiodes population was 0.176 but, in general, itlacked within-population structuring. The FST was particularly high between Brunei Bay/Jerudong and Brunei Bay/Kuala Belait, suggesting genetic subdivision on a small spatial scale. Isolation of Brunei Bay from the South ChinaSea may constrain the movement of adult fishes and larval dispersal, thereby reducing homogeneity amongsubpopulations. All variable loci for E. coiodes were in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium except for MDH* and GTDHP*(P < 0.01), in which two subpopulations showed an excess of heterozygotes (P < 0.01). The study on the *** population showed a heterozygote deficit of approximately 60% in variable loci (FIS, genetic variationwithin population = 0.45;P < 0.05);however, the mean observed heterozygosity for the population far exceeded *** populations in Australia and Indonesia. A FST value of 0.076 revealed moderate genetic differentiationamong subpopulations of L. malabaricus. The genotypes were likely to be drawn from the same distribution inJerudong and Kuala Belait. This study infers that sustainable management of snapper and grouper resources inBrunei waters must take into account the presence of a single stock and two stocks, respectively.

Crime is often associated with urban development as urban areas tend to be at greater risk security-wise as compared with other areas. This is the reality of an increasing population crowding into the cities, and fomenting crime in the process. The physical design of the environment also contributes to the escalating crime rate, resulting in fear and anxiety among the residents. The ＂Safe Township＂ concept is an approach to resolving the issue of security in urban areas. It is an agenda within the concept of liveable cities that focuses principally on the problems of urban security. The development of properties within the concept of Gated Community housing is considered a step towards protecting residents in a residential area. The development of fenced Gated Community housing equipped with full-time security facilities is among the strategies in implementing the concept of the Safe Township. This paper discusses the security features in the Gated Community housing development as measures to combat crime in line with the implementation of the Safe Township concept. This study adopts an investigative methodology that combines theory with case studies. The compilation of data was made through literature search, interviews with representatives from the Town Planning Department and data were also collected through observations of Gated Community housing schemes in Johor Bahru.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) doped with neodymium (Nd) and/or Gadolinium (Gd) rare-earth elements were fabricated into nanotubes via the hydrothermal method in a KOH solution and in-situ doping. Titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) and in-situ Nd-doped and/or Gd-doped TNTs were characterized with transmission and scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Morphologies indicated a network of aggregated nanotubes. The phase and composition analyses revealed that the lanthanide TNTs had anatase phases with Nd and/or Gd nanoparticles in the TNT lattice. The nanoparticles were uniformly deposited on the surface because of hydroxyl groups on the TNT surfaces, resulting in a very high loading density. The outer diameter and the length of the TNTs increased with doping. The mechanisms for the formation of multiwall TNTs are discussed.

The previously optimized crude alkaline protease from the haloalkaliphilic Bacillus circulans L. was partially purified using ammonium sulphate fractionation and dialysis. The best specific activity (27.7 U/mg protein) was obtained at 80% saturation. The optimum reaction temperature and reaction pH was 47℃ and 9, respectively. The enzyme activity was enhanced with Ca and K chlorides but suppressed with HgCl2 and EDTA. The partially purified protease showed strong proteolytic activity on sheep wool and chicken feather. Also, the enzyme was compatible with the common detergent Tide and could improve its cleaning power in removing blood stain. These findings support the application of the present alka-line protease in biotechnological industries.

A 15-year-old patient with osteosarcoma of left distal femur underwent a bone scan with Tc-99m hydroxymethylenediphosphonate (HDP). Whole body bone scan revealed extensive bone and thoracic metastases. Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography-Computed Tomography (SPECT-CT) of the thorax localized the uptake at pleura and lung nodules. In this case study we want to share our experience using SPECT-CT.

Ga80-xSexTe20 amorphous system was prepared by conventional technique. Structural, morphology and optical properties have been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns reveal the non-crystalline nature of the prepared sample. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) traces indicate the presence glass transition temperature Tg?for all samples below 500°C. Addition Tg values increases by increasing Se content. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) data shows good agreement with actual composition. Moreover, surface characterization was achieved by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The patterns confirmed the non-crystalline nature. In order to analyze the data, the cohesive energy C.E was calculated by all three composition optical properties that have been investigated in the wavelength range 500 - 2500 nm. Reflectivity R and transmitivity T spectrum were used to estimate the band gap energy using UV-Visible absorption spectrum. It is worthy mention that the optical band gap follows the Tg and cohesive energy behavior, where it increases by increasing Se content.
