Magnesium lithospermate B possesses inhibitory activity on Na+,K+-ATPase and neuroprotective effects against ischemic stroke

Aim:To examine if magnesium lithospermate B （MLB） extracted from Danshen,thedried roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza,may act as an active component responsible forthe cardiac therapeutic effect of this traditional Chinese herb via the same molecu-lar mechanism triggered by cardiac glycosides,such as ouabain and ***,we wanted to test if MLB may provide neuroprotection againstischemic stroke as observed for cardiac ***:Similarity in thechemical structure and molecular configuration between MLB and ouabain *** inhibition potency of MLB and ouabain on Na+,K+-ATPase activ-ity of a commercial product,as well as in purified membrane fractions from rat brainand heart tissues,was examined and *** effect of MLBagainst ischemic stroke was also evaluated using a cortical brain slice-basedassay ***:Dose-dependent inhibition on the commercial Na+,K+-ATPase equivalent to that for ouabain was observed for MLB of approximatelyhalf dosage by *** relative potency of ouabain and MLB was alsoobserved for their inhibition on Na+,K+-ATPase activity of plasma membranepurified from rat tissues,although these 2 inhibitors exhibited somewhat lowercompetence in these crude *** ischemic gerbil brains,post-treatment withMLB significantly reduced the infarct size,visualized by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazoliumchloride staining,by approximately 55% when compared with the control ***:These results evidently suggest that the cardiac therapeutic effect ofDanshen should be at least partly attributed to the effective inhibition of Na+,K+-ATPase by MLB,and that MLB provides anti-ischemic neuroprotection in gerbilssubjected to focal ischemia and reperfusion.

Inhibitory activities of extracts of Rumex dentatus, Commelina benghalensis, Ajuga bracteosa, Ziziphus mauritiana as well as their compounds of gallic acid and emodin against dengue virus

Objective: To investigate the inhibitory effects against dengue virus serotype 2(DENV-2) by five different fractions(extracted by methanol, ethanol, benzene, chloroform and n-hexane) of Rumex dentatus, Commelina benghalensis, Ajuga bracteosa and Ziziphus mauritiana, as well as their constituents(gallic acid, emodin, and isovanillic acid). Methods: All the samples were tested for cytotoxicity on baby hamster kidney cells by MTT assay and for anti-DENV-2 activity by plaque reduction neutralization assay using two DENV-2 doses(45 and 90 plaqueforming units or PFU). Results: All the samples except isovanillic acid exhibited significant prophylactic effects against DENV-2 infectivity(without cytotoxicity) when administered to cells before infection, but were not effective when given 6 h post-infection. The methanol extract of Rumex dentatus demonstrated the highest antiviral efficacy by inhibiting DENV-2 replication, with IC_(50) of 0.154 μg/mL and 0.234 μg/mL, when added before infection with 45 and 90 PFU of virus, respectively. Gallic acid also exhibited significant antiviral effects by prophylactic treatment prior to virus adsorption on cells, with IC_(50) of 0.191 μg/mL and 0.522 μg/mL at 45 and 90 PFU of DENV-2 infection, respectively. Conclusions: The highly potent activities of the extracts and constituent compounds of these plants against DENV-2 infectivity highlight their potential as targets for further research to identify novel antiviral agents against dengue.

Hydrothermal analysis of hybrid nanofluid flow on a vertical plate byconsidering slip condition

Hybrid nanofluids have attracted burgeoning attention owing to their outstanding capacity to improve heat *** influence of velocity and temperature slip parameter and nanoparticls’(NPs’)volume fraction on a vertical plate in the existence of suction has been explored in this *** investigation’s controlling partial differentiation equations were transformed into a conventional differential equation mechanism using resemblance *** were then solved employing the fifth-order Runge-Kutta *** skin coefficient of friction,temperature,and temperature gradient all rise when the volume percentage of NPs increases from 0 to 2%.Furthermore,a rise in the temperature slip variable was linked to a drop in the Nusselt number(heat transfer).The Nusselt number increased 0.15%and 5.63%respectively when the velocity slip parameter enhanced from 0 to 5 and the NPs volume percentage were increased from 0 to 1.5%.Furthermore,an increase in the temperature slip from 0 to 3 inflated the x-direction skin friction coefficient 8.2%,while inflation in the velocity slip from 0 to 5 was associated with a decline in the x-direction skin friction coefficient 95%.

Optical properties and radiative rates of Nd^(3+) doped zinc-sodium phosphate glasses

Preparation using melt quenching technique and optical characterizations of Nd^(3+) doped Zn-Na phosphate glasses are presented. The structure of the present glasses was studied using X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. UV-vis spectra of the present glasses were analyzed at different concentrations of Nd_2 O_3. The effect of neodymium concentration on the density and energy band gap was investigated. The density of the present glasses slightly increases with the increasing of Nd_2 O_3. A small variation of energy band gap with the increasing of neodymium content is observed as well, while E_g values decrease with the increase of Nd_2 O_3 content. The E_g values lie between 4.36 and 4.69 eV. Based on the measured optical spectra, Judd-Ofelt theory was used to determine the optical parameters such as line strengths, optical intensity parameters(Ω_t), transition probabilities, and transition lifetimes. Hypersensitive transitions were identified in the absorption spectrum, the greatest line strengths are recorded at the transitions^2 G_(7/2)+ ~4 G_(5/2), ~4 S_(3/2) + ~4 F_(7/2) and ~4 D_(1/2) + ~4 D_(3/2)+ ~4 D_(5/2) + ~2 I_(11/2) with wavelengths of 580, 475 and 355 nm,respectively. Lifetimes of the important ~4 F_(3/2) laser-level were determined; which show decreasing trend with the increasing of Nd_2 O_3 content and are found to be between 0.838 and 1.595 ms. The uncertainty of the present results was estimated. The RMS deviations were determined, which show lower values than those in the literature.

Evaluation of Al and Some of Its Alloys as Anode Materials vs γ-MnO_2 as Cathode Material and Ore Produced γ-MnO_2 vs Zn Anode in KOH Solution

In this study electrochemical performance of Al and some of its alloys （Al-Zn, Al-rvlg and Al-rvln） anodes vs MnO2 cathode were carried out in alkaline solution. The results show that the Al-Zn alloy anode has the best cell capacity among the other alloys. Cell capacity values go in the order Al-Zn〉Al-Mg〉Al〉Al-Mn. This result is probably related to the nature of passive films formed on the surface of the alloys which examined by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. SEM morphologies of Al and its alloys showed coarse grains of passive films formed on the surface of these anode materials while Al-Mn morphology shows a needle-like structure. Electrolytic manganese dioxide （EMD） produced by electrodepositing on platinum anode from liquor resulting from reduction of low grade pyrolusite ore （β-MnO2） by sulfur slag was characterized as cathode in alkaline Zn-MnO2 batteries. Ore produced sample （EMD1） was performed well in comparison with EMD standard （EMD2）（commercial battery grade electrolytic manganese dioxide, TOSOH-Hellas GH-S）. SEM morphology of Zn anode after cell reaction was carried out and showed that Zn anode has fine grains of passive film on its surface.

This paper describes a new model for obtaining analytical solutions of peristaltic flow through eccentric annuli. A mathematical model of peristaltic pumping of a fluid mixture （as blood model） in a circular eccentric cylinders is presented and it is motivated due to the fact that thread injection is a promising method for placing medical implants within the human body with minimum surgical trauma. For the eccentric annuli, the inner cylinder is rigid and moving with a constant velocity V, and the outer one is hollow flexible cylinder that has a sinusoidal wave traveling down its wall. The coupled differential equations for both the fluid and the particle phases have been solved by using two methods and the expressions for the velocity distribution of fluid and particle phase, flow rate, pressure drop, friction forces at the inner and outer cylinders have been derived. The results obtained are discussed in brief. The significance of the particle concentration and the eccentricity parameter as well as the nature of the basic flow has been well explained.

Spatio-temporal variation of cyclone intensity over the coastal region of Bangladesh using 134 years track analysis

The cyclone tracks from 1877 to 2020 were analyzed to detect the spatial and temporal *** tracks were gathered from previously published *** previous articles’tracks were digitized and converted to shape files for analysis in Arc-GIS.A total 126 cyclone tracks were used to detect monthly and seasonal cyclone intensity and spatial *** fluctuations were examined over a 30-year period,which is believed to be the climate of a particular *** cyclones hit the Bay of Bengal’s coast starting in May and lasting until *** May and October,the number of cyclones is at its peak(26 nos in each month).From June through September,the number of cyclones *** October and November,the number of cyclones increased *** number of cyclones substantially fell in December,and no cyclones were observed from January through *** 1939 through 1969,the highest number of cyclones(36)was *** the mid-and latetwentieth century,there were a higher number of *** coastal region of Bangladesh suffered the fewest cyclones in history over the recent era(2001–2020).The western shore was particularly vulnerable from 1877 to 1907,and the entire coastal region was dangerous from 1908 to *** the Post-monsoon(October to December)season,the number of cyclones is lower than in the Monsoon period(May to September).In the pre-monsoon season,71 cyclones strike,while in the Monsoon season,53 cyclones strike.
